Charlton 1 - 3 Carlisle - Post match thread

edited March 2011 in General Charlton
Tough times.

The vortex of misery appears to be never ending. I love my club but at times it takes you to soul-destroying depression at times. We deserve better than this, surely ?

For half hour we were playing ok, comfortable even. Wright-phillips put his shot away nicely from the edge of the area into the bottom corner, and while Barcelona's scout wouldn't have worn out his pencil, you could see little threat from Carlisle. Then they equalised out of the blue with a deflected shot, and slowly but surely they grew in confidence, we lost our way and before you knew it we had trapped ourselves in the disorganised, uncohesive mess that we have seen all too frequently. Their keeper need not have bothered putting his gloves on 2nd half.

This league is full of Carlisle's. Limited, organised workhorses. The message is clear; we are there to be got at, and because it is so achievable every opponent is currently attacking it with renewed vigour.

The manager will no doubt cop the flack; the manager always does. Why he didn't make changes earlier is anyone's guess, but in hindsight, do you really think it would have made much difference.

The misery continues. And by god does it hurt.

  • See ya next season.
  • tonight was shocking not good enough the team is not good enough 2 many inept players even at this level things must change and asap.
  • The good times will be back sometime. Maybe not for years but they will return at some point. Til then we just gotta suck it up and get on with it.

Lot worse going on in the world than losing a game of football to Carlisle.

Let's get behind the team and the manager and as has been pointed out not get too high with the wins or too low with the defeats.

This is the Charlton I know to be honest....build you up then knock you down!

Gotta just dust ourselves off and get on with it.

Well, we've got the limited part down to a tee.

Just got to get them organised and working for the cause now..

Defence, shit... midfield, nonexistent and dont even get me started on the attack... absolutely fuming... powelly sort it out
  • fickle lot aint we Powelly still got clapped off by the upper north Parky would have been hung.Time to ditch the nice suits Chris, put a tracksuit a show a little bit more passion than cuddling your coaching team when we score.
  • As AFKA said, first half hour we were in control, the Charlton i enjoy watching. One of many lose passes from Nathan Eccleston today, lead to their goal, after that we lost concentration. Only good thing is that Southampton lost tonight 1-0, so there's still hope.

    Ref was awful as well.

bang on son he looks like huggy bear the team is a joke.
  • Never should have had a rookie boss.
There it's been said. Only appointed to make the fans happy.
  • Judging by the lack of comments so far it seems as though many have decided to slit their wrists after watching that pile of steaming dog turd. In my view 3 players came out of that with any credibility. Jenkinson, Dailly and Phillips. The rest of them need shooting. And what does Llera have to do to get a game? He must be a complete donkey in training if Fortune gets a game ahead of him? Probaby the worst impression of someone pretending to be a footballer. What joke. We gave up when we scored. No fight. No Idea. Nothing. End of.

I'll get slaughtered for saying it but he wound me up something rotten tonight.

I moved to the north lower to sit with the missus second half and watched him.

There was quite simply no reaction to anything going on. He stood with his hands in his pockets.

75 mins to make a change? We were shocking second half. The few people that were there could all see it. Why did he wait so long to do something to stem the tide?.

Anyone applauding that at that end needs their bumps reading.
  • well there was a lot of clamour for him, nowhere more so than on here that's for sure. Any other manager would get the boot by now, hopefully Chris is safe at least until the end of the season even if we lose the next 4 no point chopping and changing again mid season.
  • It's very hard to get behind a team which are as bad as we were on 2nd half - clueless, lightweight, inept and lacking in fight
Eccles,BWP and Waggy easily out muscled by a below average defence. When in possession they needed too many touches and final ball poor
Not one decent cross all night set pieces appaling
And we are a soft touch in defence
Bloody angry at seeing yet another piss poor performance - too many players not fit to wear the shirt
  • for me Racon is so bloody annoying he gives the ball away so cheaply, bottles tackle after tackle
  • Seen the same thing so many times now. It didn't even anger me tonight, as you get numb to it after a while.

No way will we make the playoffs this season. It's all about next season now...
  • Phillips? Have I missed a new signing?
  • I've been up since 4am, already worked today from 5-1. Had a couple hours kip earlier, just got home, and back to work at midnight. I went tonight hoping it would be worth the lack of sleep. Started well, but then just tailed off.

Backing off players, poor passing decisions, getting caught on the break time and time again.

Something is wrong...how can one team win 4 then lose 4 just like that?
  • Its a monsterous task CP has with this bunch of players. We can all see that at least six of those playing tonight are simply not good enough. He cant buy anyone and as we all know loans are a tricky business. My advice for what its worth is tough it out this season and hope for a playoff spot. In the summer we build with better quality throughout the team and crack on.
  • to be honest how the hell we won 4 on the spin I'll never know, we got lucky v Colchester and Peterborough should have murdered us.
  • Racon also plays too close to Semedo getting on each others way and narrowing the midfield Francis also back to his worst tonight and sorry to say that apart from his goal BWP did nothing but fall over

    I've written this season off.

This team is nowhere near a play-off spot.

I've had a season ticket since 1985-86 and this is without a doubt the worst team I have watched during that period.
  • On the bright side, I was home within nine minutes of leaving my seat - I feel very sorry for those who made a big effort to get there and had a long journey afterwards.

There can't be many away teams who will pick up an easier three points this season without having to do much for them.

We get an early goal, Carlisle seem to be there for the taking and then...nothing much.
They got a lucky equaliser and it suddenly seemed to click that they could get at least a draw.

And as cameos go, Fortune's will surely take some beating.
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: harveys gardener[/cite]Phillips? Have I missed a new signing?[/quote]

    As in Bradley Wright Phillips.......
  • I had a poor view of their second goal. Who was at fault if anyone ?
  • [cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]for me Racon is so bloody annoying he gives the ball away so cheaply, bottles tackle after tackle

the midfield has been shite for ages semedo reminds me of a poor mans deschamps ,cantona once called him a water carrier thats what semedo reminds me of at the moment dont really do anything imposing during the game a few taclkes maybe but thatas as good as it gets.
  • [cite]Posted By: ShootersHillGuru[/cite]I had a poor view of their second goal. Who was at fault if anyone ?

The entire defence and Elliott as well. And the third was shocking goalkeeping.
  • I feel even less positive than after we went 17 games without a win, we were piss poor out there, still cant defend simple corners, defenders not gettin goal side of players, no one in midfield willing to close down or make a tackle, hoof ball straight to the oppo, infact the worst thing we could have done was score early we then dropped back 30 yards and just punted the ball back to them. I actually turned to m8 next to me and hand on heart really dont think i'll be renewing and even though already paid preobably wont bother most of this season now.

Last wknd was the first wknd in ages i've been happy, my friends and famly noticed, and what was diff about last wknd - no football. I dont even enjoy the win anymore, I think its just the fact we scrape it, we dont ever impose ourselves on games and never really deserve the win, we've not played well for a whole 90 min since, well I cant remember maybe the begining of last season? There was a post on here by AFKA about where's your breaking point - never thought i'd day this but ive reached mine, whether I support the team or not they don't give a fuck so why should I, maybe i need to stay away for the rest of the year in the hope we get rid of everyone bar maybe jacko, BWP, Waggy and the kids and start afresh, again.

I'm just gettin so fed up with the same no desire inept displays, we dont have anything even close to resembling a captain out there. We make the same mistakes over and over and over again we have no vision what so ever and dont ever threten the oppo's goal, we actually have a 20 goal a season striker and it aint making the blindest bit of difference.
  • we need a leader like kinsella someone to bollock the life out of the players .
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: boogica[/cite]we need a leader like kinsella someone to bollock the life out of the players .[/quote]

Spot on. And you ain't gonna get that from Semedo or Racon. In all my 30 odd years of going I Don't think I have seen so many gutless players on the pitch at one time.
  • Not to disimilar views than from above too light weight in midfield and therefrore defence got no protection; seems to not be playing a straight 442 at times - Wagstaff was playing up front for periods and was fairly poor; Ecclestone was awful on the wing; Francis did not have a great game; etc. etc.
