The problem is, I'm ok for saying "next season is really when it matters, we'll bring XYZ in and we'll make it happen"
BUT
next season, in all likelihood we won't have Semedo, Racon or Eccleston
Now I don't give a toss about Racon, contrary to popular belief I don't think he's worth a w***, but the other two? One a solid steady eddie and the other a bit of class that can turn things on his day. That's a lot to replace before you've even got going and that's before the massive out of contract list we had going on the other thread. We'd need virtually a whole new squad again, cue we need time to settle, "gel", etc. and the whole thing starts again
I thought we played well and were unlucky. Thought we tried to play good fortie until we went behind and panicked a bit. People you need to realise any change is going to tale time. Keep the faith
if being unable to string passes together, hoofing up endless and francis crossing to everything but a charlton player and docherty putting balls into touch is playing well then yes we played well,be honest nothing has changed yet
[cite]Posted By: UP...THE...ADDICKS[/cite]Am I the only one who thought we played some really tidy football? Just a bit suspect in the defence and sloppy crossing
Can only really remember a couple of passages of play where I thought we looked half decent.
As for sloppy crossing and suspect defending, it's becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

i was advised earlier today that francis is a crossing specialist. must have had an off day.
Wasn't the worst game or performance. Reid for Jackson probably should've been the move at half time. Hope NE isn't going to turn into another Scott Sinclair. Thought we were reasonably comfortable against an ordinary County side but needed to score first. Their goalie was a bit lucky to stay on after his foul but hey ho. County did look more of a threat when Hughes came on and we faded when we should've had them on the rack. Anyinsah worked hard, did ok, was fouled for the penalty but never looked remotely like scoring. Benson (when available) will need to be paired with BWP at some point to see if they can blast us up the table.
PS: Thought Parkinson was good on the box. Good luck to him.
[cite]Posted By: onestevieg[/cite]Need a leader out there on the pitch, someone to grab the game by the balls
This is crucial for me. Yes, we could say we should have been a couple in front by the time he scored off his arse and the pitch was rubbish and the keeper should have walked, etc, etc, but ultimately we looked like we were playing an end of season, mid-table, nothing on it type game. We just don't look like we want it bad enough I'm afraid.
We were discussing Semedo earlier today and this is exactly the sort of game he should be stepping up to and driving the team on. Neither him nor Racon were able to set the tempo once again for me. Hopefully CP can inject some urgency into them.
I must have watched a different game to most on here as i thought we were the better team, played some decent football (at times) and were unlucky with their goal (fluke & a deflection) but once the penalty was missed we were always goimg to struggle.
I thought we looked a better side once Waggy came on - he & Francis had some good moves - but looked worse when Reidy entered the field. Francis looks good going forward but his crosses are woeful - most don't get higher than knee height and none beat the first defender........
Jenkinson look good for an 18 yr old playing in only his 3rd full game.
Anyinsah & BWP need to start more games together - maybe a start of agood front pairing.
MUST win our next two games (both at home) - anything less than 6 points will see even a play-off place disappearing..............soon even the O's will be above us.
Expected to lose, but thought we were the least bad team. 3 points dropped. Thought beforehand that Dailly should've taken the penalty. It was nice of Notts to plough their pitch in time for the match.
Chrissy needs to sit down with KP and call on his experience over the next couple of days. KP sorted out the Swindon mess and had us looking like a well organised team against Spurs.. CP has gone off track recently and is trying too hard to play good football, accommodate all his best players and win games. One thing at a time Chrissy, Rome wasn't built in a day!

spot on - bits and pieces players - not centre midfield players.

we had the better of it but it was so there for the taking, if you are going to go up you have to wiin them sort of games - too many games are in the balance and could go either way which suggests we are unfortunately in the division we are supposed to be in and all this clap trap about the quality of our squad is so deluded. racon has been a world beater the last month - put him on the pitch and the image is ruined.
Notts county's goal was a complete fluke. They are an absolute joke of a football club and losing to such a complete shower of shite is just a total embarrassment. They should be forced at gun point to re-lay their pitch, their goal keeper should be publicly flogged in lieu of the red card he so obviously deserved.
we have some decent players, better than many in this league but at the moment we're getting less than the sum of their parts, 3 defeats in a row to sides unlikely to even trouble the play-offs is rather worrying

And you advised us that his best position was centre-back...
i once again think despite losing we've played better than we did against plymouth and p'boro when we won
automatics have gone now so we have to make the play offs
this squad has enough about it to get to them but SCP needs to guide them there
it's a pony league so i'm not worrying yet
0% chance of automatics
65% chance of the play offs
35% chance of what i suspected would happen, when we conceded our championship position by appointing parky, in that we'll be equalling the worse run in our history since we first got promoted from division 3 in 1929 .....
still don't mention it cos the apologists will try and find some bullshit reason why it's so great to support charlton despite being the shittiest side in south london

i asked the question would his assets be nbetter used at centre half given the doherty situation and the fact jenkinson looks good. one of the reasons given is that he would be wasted because he is a great crosser of the ball. got to laugh really.
Wasn't great, wasn't as bad as people make out. The pitch was one big turd and impossible to play any quality football on...Notts are used to it, we are not. Had the chances in the first half, faded in the second. Missed Abbot holding the ball up, BWP, NE & Anyanswer just don't do that well enough. PLayers need to switch on and really play for the shirt. It seems silly to critisicse a striker who has 4 goals in 6 games but today he looked like he had an attitude and did not get involved and chase down enough.
A decent ball played CM who can retain possession and create chances is what we need - if we can get one we will move up again, if not I fear we need to get used to this until the summer when we can rebuild.
Blaming Powell for any of this is like blaming the Conservatives for the mess Labour have left this country in!
I just find it sad that even at this level i no longer expect us to win. I expect it to be a poor game with the outside chance of us maybe geting a result.
We are shit-----in a very very poor league.
Would it matter who was the manager ? i dont reallythink so. There is only so much you can do with the squad you have.
To get in the play offs is still a target, --- not because we are any good but just because most are at the same level or even worse.
We have the ability to LOOSE to anyone.
Just because CP wants us to play football dosnt mean we have the players that CAN play football.
That wasnt even a bad performance by our standards-----------------which shows how truely far we have fallen.
What (as an oldie) i see is years and years ofthis darkness and twilight----going back to that God awful place ofthe early 70s when EVERYONE could take the piss out of CAFC because we had been shit for donkeys years.
Thought it was a draw match, unfortunate own goal. But we again did not at any time look to dominate the game. A lot of people on here were calling for Racon to replace McOxo well he did, but who would have noticed.
The half time replacement of Jackson should have been Reid, NE39 was doing ok in the quagmire and would have had better opportunity to run at players in the second half
CP now needs to show his mettle as a manager and draw on all the experiences of working with and under Sven, Curbs even Pards.
CP needs to get his loanees in and slater needss to give him the budget to bring in the right players, regardless of championship competition.
We weren't terrible but not good either. As it often does, it felt like we're lacking that quality midfielder to control the game, get others on the ball and drive the team forward.
First half far too much long ball over the top to chase. Pitch doesn't help of course but Notts County played some decent football on the floor.
Still not sure about the partnerships up front. Could really do with a Deon Burton, as well as that central midfielder IMO. Someone with a good touch, bring others into play, challenge in the air and hold up the ball.
Like others have said I'm not sure we should be trying to fit Eccleston, BWP and Anyinsah all into the team. The balance to the team doesn't feel quite right.
We had quite a few chances, another day we'd have won that. But then another day Notts County might have scored one or two more of their chances and won comfortably.
Very poor goal to concede, shouldn't give free kicks like that away either (something we've done too often this season). Not surprised we conceded from a set piece, something which needs sorting out.Poor penalty from BWP as well, must do better than that.
Still it's a close league and a good loan or two could really change things. We aren't great but neither are most teams in this league. Feels like Powell is still trying to find his best team and system.

Yes but we won't get that "other game"
And I am not sure we have scored early yet have we ?
Spot on.

Racon had a poor match overall imo. As did Semedo. Some good stuff, but not enough.
