So your warming the subs bench--------the game is poor-----your team is one nil down--------and instead of throwing on a speedy forward the manager puts a donkey of a defender up front------how would you feel ? I think this young man has every right to be naffed off.
when the lady in front of me said "Docherty is playing up front" i thought she was seeing things---------but she was correct,i left a couple of mins later.Stunning that piece of management ,stunning.

Yes - when it's the dying embers of a game and you are lumping it in the air you need a skinny 19 year old who can't head for toffee to come on......

Why did we need to lump in the air at all? Surely the point is that Huddersfield were struggling to cope with Wagstaff's pace throughout the game so Ecclestone should have been introduced to get at them with the ball at his feet as well as running in behind the defence rather than "lumping it in the air"

Are you talking about Nouble? In which case why did we extend his loan period?
Or ecclestone in which case I defer to The Red Robin

Hardly a "stunning" piece of management. Even the top sides resort to this in similar circumstances. Watch where John Terry goes when Chelsea next find themselves a goal down with a couple of minutes to go.

Only if they've used all their substitutions. I highly doubt Ancelotti would resort to this if he had Anelka and Drogba on the bench and had only made one change.
Nota stunning piece of management i was wrong it was a total shit piece of management.
Donkey Docherty up front or Eclestone or Noble errrrrrrrrrrrrrr yes lets do go for the lump with no speed at all against Northern Monkey pit props at the back !!! i can still hear Town defence laughing.
Have no problem at all sticking a centre half up front in the closing minutes and humping the ball up to them. Some times its pyschological (sic) it will get the opposition to withdraw and play deeper as a result. Its a last minute last resort approach.
The problem with it on Saturday was that Hudders had a huge great lump of a centre half who didn't fail to win a single header all game.
My point was that it wasn't a patently ridiculous or bizarre piece of management. I really do wonder about some of the venom that is being directed at CP; one of the finest and proudest players ever to pull on the shirt. This I do find weird.
[cite]Posted By: Goonerhater[/cite]whats weird is the Cult of manger. So a crap piece of managemnet cant be called a crap piece of management because Chris powell did it ?
To be honest there is very little venom directed at CP considering the 15 game record. As GH says if we believe that there is a poor piece of management we sgould not have to ignore it just because of it being CP.
As an aside, GH your naming of charlton players is positively Guardianesque!! You sure you're not a secret subscriber?
Just stated on Twitter that he would love to come back to Charlton.
I thought he was good - up there with Danny Haynes for lightning pace. Probably wouldn't have him back at this stage, but thought it was a nice sentiment for an ex player to say something good like that about our club.

That's a weird thing to come out with if there's no interest? Or is he just whoring himself? I'd have him back here as well.
its a bit like telling a league 2 player to come play for charlton, of course they'd love to come play in the championship. He was simply replying to some one who told him to come back to charlton.

Scored a neat goal for us at the Covered End: cut inside from the right, beat a defender and planted a good left-foot shot into the corner of the net. Liverpool academy, so should be well trained.
Would have both Igor and Rez up top as the 'small but quick' option before him, and he doesn't like being played on the wing. Personally dont see a place for him in the current squad, which is a pretty nice place to be in considering this time last year.
He was on crazy money when he came to us so I think he has now had a jolt of reality and doesn't like it. HE can see we are in a state of transition and maybe does look at us and wonder what could have been.
I thought there was a decent player in there but his attitude wasn't great (billy big spuds complex). If he were free and sensible wages then would be a useful addition to the numbers as, at 23, he is still very young. He would fit the Curbs criterion of hungry and angry now
No doubt the lad has some talent and ability. He showed that in parts during his loan spell with us. Unfortunately talent alone only gets you so far the in the game. Another case of a young player on excellent money and a long contract at a big club thinking he had made it before he had started. Shame as there is a good player there who could make a good career for himself if only he really WANTS it.
As a player I liked him and I think he was genuinely moved when we gave him a good reception when he played for Blackpool and scored against us . He thanked us on Twitter.
In terms of football I think we have moved on now and could do much better. A good signing for a L1 club.

I was going to write something similar but you've put it much much better.
