  • Blimey - a week in dublin... you'd come back penniless.
  • [cite]Posted By: Sparrows Lane Lion[/cite]You could do a relaxing slow paced 5 days in Rome easily. A fantastic city, loads to see, great food, lovely drinks, a great place to wander about etc.

I would not in a million years take her to Dubai. Just not that good if you compare it to other places mentioned on here; Miami, Maldives etc.

Typical Millwall , 5 slow paced days = a week
  • Kind of depends what you/she likes. A few more clues would be helpful. Do you want to catch some winter sun? Do you want to see museums or cool bars. Would you prefer good restaurants or a town with character?

If you're interested in culture and history then Florence, Rome or Brugge would be great. A bit more nightlife and I'd maybe say Cadiz, Berlin or Palermo. Some places - Amsterdam, Lisbon (probably my favourite) or Madrid tick both boxes.
  • Id love to go somewhere to do with culture and history, she wouldn't.
She would just love to be in the sun/sea/pool etc, so both if preferable!
Cheers again ppl, it is appreciated.

Not been to Rome, but there is plenty to do in most big cities to fill a week, imo. In places like Paris and London you can spend 2 weeks and still not run out things to see and do (you could spend a week in The Louvre alone). Lisbon is another nice City with easy train links to Estoril, for the beach, and Sintra, which is a beautiful world heritage site. Both can be done as a day trip or you could hotel hop. Seafood in Lisbon is amazing too.

Following on from the Lake Garda tip, I spent a week at Lake Maggiore a few years ago. Beautiful scenery and lots of pretty little towns to visit as well as the three islands and a stunning mountain railway that takes you into Switzerland (you catch a boat back down the lake to the start of the trip). Quite touristy though and popular with Germans, particularly middle aged ones, so probably not a good loaction if your are party animals.

Just seen this after I posted above, as McLovin says, Lisbon offers a good best of both world option on this one - historic centre, good shopping, nice food, nice people and in striking distance of some out of town attractions including the beach.

Was relatively cheap when I went, but that was 10 years ago.
  • Thanks i'll check lisbon out.

you should defo go for alba then.

Opened in May 2008, this new hotel offers bright, comfortable rooms and an excellent selection of facilities directly on the beach

The Alba Royal is a smart new addition to the Colakli beach area of scintillating Side, with its range of bars, historic ruins and lovely restaurants. The hotel itself has enough attractions of its own to keep you more than entertained - including a choice of bars and restaurants and a modern, well-equipped spa. Situated directly on the sandy beach with stunning views of the sea and the mountains, this stylish hotel also offers a host of sporting activities, and is ideal for couples. Especially ones who want to fill their days with fun. There's a lovely free-form pool and sun terrace, a beach bar and ampitheatre where nightly activities and entertainments take place, and three à la carte restaurants.

Try a Turkish bath for the ulimate de-stressing experience, and sample the delights of the Health and Relaxation gym. Take a Scuba diving lesson, or simply go snorkelling - this wonderful hotel is willing and able to ensure your stay in Turkey is as delightful, diverse and exciting as the country itself.
  • I have a very nice house you can rent in Spain. A pueblo Blanco (white village) up a mountain in a national park, 45 mins from Cordoba and one hour from Granada. Very Spanish. Culture, shopping, walks and relaxation. You would need to hire a car though its just over an hour from Malaga and Granada airports.
  • You could always edge your bets and book a Travelodge in Stanmore, that way, if we end up getting to the play off final, you could kill 2 birds with one stone.

  • Shag - an easy win for you there! I'll let you have that one.

Exiled - depends what "big" cities you mean. I personally didn't think Barcelona would sustain 7 days for a young couple...unless the weather is good enough for a few days on the beach to break it up a bit (& the beach is quality as are the women on it!)

The very reason you should not take your girlfriend there.
As a woman the last place I would want to be taken is a beach full of beautiful, thin, tanned ladies.
And no matter how hard you tried I-SAW you would look a bit and she would notice.
    Bad move!
  • If you want history and culture and her sun and sand, the answer is Santorini. Most photographed of all the Greek islands. Stunning volcanic cliffs, city of Thira as well as the modern one that caters for the cruise liners that anchor 800 ft below it. Fanastic sunsets at one end of the island etc etc

Going there in the summer :)
  • I hear Tunisia is quite nice this year
  • Southern Spain (Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba). Absolutely beautiful, dirt cheap, loads of stuff to see and do and just before the weather ramps up to double spiteful. You won't regret it.

  • Somewhat agree with Leroy, something to suit you both.
    otherwise-
Cheapish Turkey - Kusadasi area (Ephesus)
Mid - Cyprus anywhere away from lager territory and hire a car.
    Bit ouchy - Key West
  • Agree with Nichorob Riveria Maya is a great place to go, went in the summer, wonderful beaches and plenty to do around the complex and cancun is only up the road too
  • Lisbon - excellent food and plenty to see, cool little trams zipping everywhere. Great bars and lots to see in the Barrio Alto. Lots of clubs by the river front and on the Not far from nice beaches, so should suit you both. Excellent and cheap transport system and lots of cheap taxis too.

Is that nice beaches that aren't far or nearby beaches that are nearly nice?

    :-)

    Another man of taste!

If you do end up in Lisbon, I-Saw, I seriously recommend you take the train for a day trip to Sintra. It really is a beautiful little place.
  • Im looking into the Alba Royal in Turkey and Lisbon at the moment, both look very nice.
  • What about Barcelona. Beaches (although not world beaters), good shopping, good nightlife.
    Disney-style theme park neaby.
  • Up the OXO Tower.

I can't believe it's taken 58 posts for someone to come up with a suggestion like this. I've been itching to do it but have held back (for once)
