most liverpool fans seemed to think he would be going lower prem side or championship...

Already played for first team in Premiership and Europe this season and reportedly there was interest from palace and other championship clubs...

I think it's a good achievement we've managed to secure him, even if he doesn't end up doing it for us.

  • Well a big thanks to jonjo because he was influencing him all the way down to London as last night he still had 3 choices
  • Deal hasn't gone through yet.

@samcrawford19 No. Many thanks. No deal has been done yet (MW)

That's from the official twitter in reply to someone pointing out that the story was only on the mobile site.
  • Just spoken to a colleague of mine in Chester who is a Liverpool season ticket holder and she described him as a real cracker. I'll leave that one with you all to fill in the punchline.
  • [cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Deal hasn't gone through yet.

He seems to have trained today though?

    This is quite confusing!

It's now been removed from the mobile site it seems - I didn't even know they would have two different news banks... makes no sense at all
  • His latest tweet:

"Thanks for all the msgs wishing me well on my loan its appreciated .. 1st training session went well! Hope we can get a positive result l8r"

Surely you can't train before the deal is done? What about insurance... god forbid if he done something this morning Liverpool would've had to lump it...
  • It will go through later on today.

Says also on his Twitter page that he has enjoyed his first days training.
  • Oh dear Good luck mate 1 in 9 for the other league 1 team ;o)
  • [cite]Posted By: jazzyjazzyjazzy[/cite]It will go through later on today.
I'm sure it will was just pointing out that the club have said it hasn't as of yet.

Oh I know, I didn't mean that in a rude way, just mean not to panic.

Thanks for the quote Scoham ;^)
  • On the mobile site it now says he's trained ahead of the move being finalised on Thursday morning.

Young Premier League hotshot Nathan Eccleston trained with Charlton on Wednesday morning and is set to sign on loan from Liverpool until the end of the season.

The Manchester-born 20-year-old has made seven appearances for the Reds this term and has played regularly in the Europa League.

The paperwork on the deal is due to be completed on Thursday morning, making Eccleston available for the Addicks' for Saturday's clash with promotion rivals

Chairman Michael Slater said: "A number of clubs were keen to sign Nathan on loan during the transfer window, most of which were in higher divisions, so we had to move very quickly and we're delighted to have captured his signature.

"He's very highly rated and has already played Premier League and European football this season, so he's a fantastic addition to our squad."

Slater added that the club was continuing its thorough search to find a new manager, and that the recruitment process was progressing well.

Eccleston, who has represented England U17s, has appeared for Premier League giants Liverpool seven times in 2010/11, featuring in five Europa League ties.

He made his debut for Liverpool in October 2009, and joined Huddersfield on loan 12 months ago, when he scored once in 12 appearances (four starts) for the Yorkshire club.

That goal came on his debut in a 1-0 win at Yeovil Town, and he made his final appearance for Lee Clark's side as a substitute in the League One play-off semi-final second leg at Millwall, a tie the Lions won 2-0 to seal their place at Wembley against a Swindon Town side that beat new club Charlton on penalties.

This season, Eccleston has seen regular action for Liverpool in the Europa League, featuring from the bench against Macedonian side ZFK Rabotnicki Kometal in late July as the Reds qualified for the competition proper.

His Anfield bow came against Romanian side Steaua Bucharest in a 4-1 win, and he featurd against Napoli as interval substitute Steven Gerrard notched a hat-trick to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 win.

More experience came in Liverpool's return match at Steaua Bucharest, and his first start in Liverpool colours came in the 0-0 draw against Dutch side FC Utrecht on December 15th.

That was his last first-team outing for the Reds, and he also has four reserve goals for league-leaders Liverpool this term.
  • Very pleased, good statement to sign a player such as Ecclestone. Thought he was nailed on to go to The Championship and the fact he is with us till May is also a good sign.

Different type of striker to what we have already, just hope the new manager can ensure we play to his strengths and the midfield can provide the right service.

May have had an up/down spell at Huddersfield but has had another year to develop and by the sounds of it- Liverpool fans have high hopes.
  • Is this the first time a 'footbaling tie-up' at Charlton has actually produced a result. Even if he turns out to be rubbish I can still say I am genuinly shocked as I didn't think we had a chance of getting anything from Liverpool.
  • A sign perhaps of the level of spending we can expect if we are competing with and beating Champ clubs to a player.

Gives us more options up front, either with or instead of Super Joe (when injured).

May not be the most clinical finisher but big and fast can be enough at this level.
  • well done Parky ;-)
  • So is he Parky's last signing or our new managers first signing?...or have we got an interfering board?..

Well Jimenez was involved in player recruitment at Newcastle so it's pretty obvious to me who took this deal through

    .
  • Liverpool could have offered him?
  • This loan was being discussed, albeit in the very early stages, before Parky said goodbye.
  • Sorry, I haven't been following this thread until now, can someone give me a quick re-cap on what kind of player we're getting here, apart from another striker who doesn't score goals! ;-)
  • Good luck Nathan , thanks very much Mr New Board people could be a very Wise decision , can't wait to see who we've got lined up as manager , any chance of signing Charlie Austin?
  • Didn't murray sign cory gibbs and sorondo in between curbs and dowie? Hope we have better luck with eccleston.
  • We extended Fry last week as well. Is Lowry next ?

    he knows something!!
  • Looking at his 2 goals on youtube for the reserves against Blackburn, he certainly knows how to finish (we'll soon knock that out of him). Also worth noting that one was with his left and the other with his right foot, so a two-footed player with pace can hopefully pay dividends in this shit-hole of a league. Let's wait and see. I recall how everyone here got excited with Lee Martin signing and he's hardly set the valley alight with his performances so far.....forever the pessimist, me. :-(
  • Only 5'8" and 10 st according to Soccerbase - how well 'developed' does he look (I can't get on You Tube at work) cos that sounds a bit lightweight?

I have no problem with us signing a pacy, on the shoulders type striker - but someone in the midfield is going to have to develop a bit of vision and start sliding in a few through balls if someone like that is to be successful for us. Maybe Racon, he's been showing signs of doing it a bit more (played a couple of good ones on Sunday), but I'm not convinced he'll ever be as prolific for assists as someone like Murphy or Reid (A) used to be.
