[cite]Posted By: Valiantphil[/cite]Ask yourself what sort of footy job he will get next - based on his record with us and before that.
The answer starts with a blue square !
Disgrace, Phil did alot for us even paying Gary Barrowdales wages while on loan from his own pocket. If Sir Chris goes on to do anything with us it will be becasue of the foundations parky set not despite.
Parky made a short-term interest free loan of a couple of grand to the club that has since been repaid, and anything he achieved were on the foundations of Pardew, so it's swings and roundabouts.
The Borrowdale thing was a noble gesture but nothing to do with his next managerial appointment - unless he is going to pay the wages.
Anyone ever wonder about that short stay at Hull City ?
no to be honest i have never given hull a second thought. What i am saying is after Dowie, Reed and Pardew just my opinon but i feel Parky settled us and under the circumstances di very well.
Can't you just show a smidgeon of human kindness? They're saying Parky was on SS3 looking tired and hurt. He's gone, we've got Chrissy. It's quite shameful that you should feel the need to keep knocking Parky now.

Can see plenty of teams in our league going for him, play-offs last season, left us in the play-offs spot before he was sacked, his stock will still be of pretty high standard. Hope he gets a good gig and not some shitty position for a club who are resigned to relegation.
Thanks for the "derby pride" reminder, not sure where that 4-0 defeat ranks in the record books, but I heard the Brighton 4-0 was our worst home defeat for 6 years.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to attribute any future success that Powell may acheive to Parkinson!
Why not argue Parkinson built on the foundations laid by Pardew? And Pardew built on the foundations laid by Dowie?
We have new owners, a new board, a new manager, and a new backroom team and new players coming in. What we are witnessing is a clean break with the past and that's why people are so enthused by what is happening.
Yes, I'm glad Parkinson has gone. But I hope he's not bound for the Blue Square but for the Bournemouth job, where he can take over from another nice guy, 'loyal Eddie'. Result. Parky finds emplopyment so he can feed the bairns. And his appointment would mean we have one less rival for promotion this season. Everybody happy.

Pardew didn't leave any foundations. Just an oversized and unbalanced squad that needed a big clear out. Some good players were signed by Pardew but they were supposed to be top Champ players with Prem potential, not League One players that might be decent in the Champ.
Parky built a squad that can compete for promotion and with a few good signings could seriously challenge for the top two. Certainly a better position for Powell to come into than the one Parky took over, despite us being a division lower.
Funny thing if Parky did take the job and got them promoted (which I think he's capable of doing).
Parkinson is a respectable League One level manager. He came in, and if nothing else he HAS steadied the sinking ship by bringing in the needed players to add a bit of determination and fight back into the side, as well as much needed balance. He inherited a mess of a squad from Pardew and if you offered me our current squad or the one from November 2008, I would take this current set of players every time.
He might not have been the best tactically, or been the quickest when thinking on his feet during the 90 minutes, but we should be grateful for what he has done for us in his time here as a manager.
[cite]Posted By: SaoPauloAddick[/cite]Not sure about that VP. A lot of people on the outside will recognise that he got decent results at Charlton in League 1 while continually having to cut the playing budget. Sure he'll get a job in League 1/2 (or a no 2 job higher up) before too long.
Hope he does well wherever he ends up (except when he's playing us)
Yep. Put it another way, what would we think if Huddersfield sacked their manager tomorrow? Just as divisive among the fans, with a far more expensively assembled squad, but only a few points better off than us. What did we think of Southgate's sacking, or Allardyce's? From the outside, Parkinson's sacking does look very strange, and his stock will have been done not much harm from what he achieved with us under constantly reduced budgets, whether people want to accept that or not. Yes, his next job will probably be lower than where we are, but that doesn't mean he'll have to drop all the way to the BSP
I disagreed with the decision to sack him, am delighted with who's replaced him, and wish him the very best in his future career.
Parky should be rememembered as doing his best with limited resources, and he did very well with that. Certainly better than if Pardew was still in charge, so i think he deserves a lot of credit, Wish him well.Time to move on , Chrissy Powell , a legend so coyr.

[cite]Posted By: Kap10[/cite]In knocking a nice bloke lets not forget that our new manager suffers from that accusation.
Dowie, Reed and Pardew made this club a laughing stock,Parkie gave us back credibility and steadied a sinking ship.

Brilliant post. Totally, totally agree with it all.
Lets be honest some clubs have crap seasons but weve had 4 on the bounce.

Really? It might have been unbalanced as a squad. But it was full of much better players than we have today, many of whom have gone on to be very succesful elsewhere.
Really don't think the current team would beat a side that included the likes of Hudson, Primus, Sam, a fit Youga, Shelvey, ZZ, Bouazza, Bailey, Ambrose, Thomas, Holland, Gray and Varney . Plus the best of our current squad, Semedo, Racon and Wagstaff, were already there.
When you think of Doherty, Martin, McOxo, Francis, Abbott, Benson , Akpo etc. I can't see how the argument is sustainable. Apart from those who have been present under both regimes, probably only Dailly and Jackson would challenge for a place in the '08 side and a fully fit Anyinsah might have got on the bench.
Pardew's problem was not that he had a rubbish team. It was simply that he lost the managerial plot.
All good players but ad a team (bar reading at home) were in no other terms, useless.
Barnsley at home was the most embarrassed I ever felt as a charlton fan and believe me being one of only 5 charlton fans in a school of 1500 in the 80s I had alot.
As individual players, sure I'd prefer ZZ over Martin, Hudson over Fortune, etc. but as Charltonparklane suggests, they were never moulded as one coherent squad under Pardew.
Parkinson put his stamp on the team. He didn't just go out and buy quality, he bought what was needed at the time and with a much smaller budget than the one with which Pardew had.
That nov 08 team got more points per game under pardew than they did under parky ..... And parky already knew them he didn't walk in cold he'd been here nearly 2 years by then
Say what you want no one could have got less out of that team
His attempts in league one for us were light years above that most pathetic of relegations
Saying that I hope he does well in the future and to whichever clown mentioned parky will get a job b4 curbs, as a slight to sir alan, that will be because he needs a job and sir alan isn't desperate to take any gig on and with his record I make him right
Well yes, the current Fortune. He's looked slow, a shadow of his former self and I personally wouldn't have extended his contract past the one we originally gave him in the summer.
Comments
Nearly got us back there too.
Nearly got a win against 10 man Brighton/Colchester
Nearly got a draw at home to Swindon/ Walsall
His record is all about nearly's except for getting Colchester into The Championship and I can't remember if he took them back down ?
no to be honest i have never given hull a second thought. What i am saying is after Dowie, Reed and Pardew just my opinon but i feel Parky settled us and under the circumstances di very well.
His managerial record is poor.
