  • I wish real success to brighton great club 99.9% of quailty real football fans and a combined hatred of the scum

plus they know how we felt losing a ground losing identity and coming back from the brink

    good luck to them
  • [cite]Posted By: JollyRobin[/cite]On the other hand managing a club isn't all about how big that club is. Even if the Brighton fans want to kid themselves and believe they are a bigger club just because they happen to be 4 or 5 places higher than us in the league they have to realise that Charlton offers him more time with his family due to the ground/training grounds facility vicinity & more of a chance to see his son play & help his son develop as a player.

    Remember he's a father & husband before he's a football manager.

Dude,Orpington to Brighton ain't exactly London to Newcastle. Still poyet could always use the dowie excuse ;-)

You have just stated that our stadium had a capacity of 22,000 (a bit more than that to be more precise) and that filling it will not equal your average attendance of your time in the Championship. Your previous avergae attendance in the Championship was 20,894, now

Sorry, I meant first year in the championship which was about 23,000 iirc :p
  • [cite]Posted By: nth london addick[/cite]I would love him J i really would just cant see it, i think he has a fair bit of integrity and i reckon he will see the job out, my moneys on clarke and zola, good news on the cash front

TJ been playing golf today by any chance mate and you been tipped the wink ;-)

D the thing is tj,wise ,poyet, zola ,clark all very close deep down i think the new managerwas sorted before the take over ,yes poyet is a man of integrity but these days mate u never know in football ,someone knows something because when i got told this morning i thought no way but money is being laid on him.

    F****** well said!

    Well said indeed, apart from...

We may win the league, we may not. We'll have a better idea once the 46 games have been contested.

You have just stated that our stadium had a capacity of 22,000 (a bit more than that to be more precise) and that filling it will not equal your average attendance of your time in the Championship. Your previous avergae attendance in the Championship was 20,894, now I am not an accountant, but that figure would seem to be smaller than 22,500.

A small club we may be, but much smaller than you? You seem to be under the impression that Charlton are a footballing gargantuan. I'm not sure what your definition of a big club would be? Next season, we are pretty much level pegging when it comes to income and viability. In fact, I would be willing to suggest that our new stadium will be far more profitable than the Valley, despite the disparity in capacity.

Let's face it. There are gigantic and monstrous clubs with money to burn, there are some clubs that might flirt with promotion to the top tier and spend a season or two there and then there are some clubs that will never reach that height unless some millionaire with more cash than sense fancies a glass of wine or three with old Cherry Nose at Old Trafford.

20894 was capacity at the time mate.....was increased to 27,111 when the north stand was completed, why would you think that your new stadium would be more profitable?

Depends what his wife's like I s'pose. That could go against you if he wants an extra hour of peace and quiet every day :-)

might go and have another 20 then on the gustavo i wont lose if either him or clarke get in
  • Who really is backing Poyet though?

I can understand Curbs odds tumbling down... that's called nostalgia and severe wishful thinking.

But bearing in mind we are league 1 nice little charlton, who really is interested enough to pile into Poyet {now down to 5's from something like 25's} unless they know something?
  • SteveBHA you are right. Poyet will deliver promotion this season...as Charlton manager.
  • Brownie seemed a bit peeved last week as co commentator. Could he have already heard we were interested in Poyet ? Was certainly scathing of Parky's tactics too.

Fair enough. An average attendance is bound to slide once the team follows suit (or vice versa). I'd imagine every club has a proportion of fans that would rather watch 'home team' vs Man Utd/Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea and so on.
  • [cite]Posted By: Barrel of Fun[/citeIn fact, I would be willing to suggest that our new stadium will be far more profitable than the Valley, despite the disparity in capacity.

This I doubt, because the club's outstanding debts on the Valley for the moment are manageable, not to be paid until we reach the Prem again and they are I am sure (given inflation etc) smaller debts than those for building 22,500 new seats, roads around and about, car parks and so on.
  • I've given up on quoting as, seemingly, it defies the away fans.

I have no access to any relevant figures, but the Amex (money for the name) is geared towards generating income seven days a week. I'm not sure the Valley is that way inclined. I was not stating a fact, merely prophesying. I believe we will be charging more (on the whole) than Charlton when it comes to tickets and I fully expect us to fill the ground for much of the first year.
  • Car parks are already there. The road upgrades are being paid for through grants and our 'loan' from Tony Bloom to build the stadium is interest free and repayable in 25 years and/or converted into shares.
  • We hate Palace!

Based in what? The millions of fans that turn up every week ATM?

  • Nice to see some sensible seagulls on here after that wind up nob earlier on.

I really cannot see why Poyet would jump ship, but you never know in football. He is managing a successful, winning team about to realise their dream of a new home and a return to good times. In addition, they put their faith in him and I think that means a lot. We shall see, I suppose, but I were to put cash on it, I would be following NLA's hunch and go for someone like Clarke or Zola.

I have a lot of time for B&HA and know a few brighton fans. I even went to picket the Labour conference with some of them a few years back (in an Addicks shirt, naturally) to try and get that fat pointless knacker Prescott to give planning permission for Falmer. Having been in the same boat ourselves, I think that we are kindred spirits in a way.... not least due to our aversion to stripey Surrey nigels! So peace and love everyone and let's hope that its us and the Seagulls going up from this shite league this year.....with us as champions, obviously!

P.S I agree with Isaw about Curbs....pure fantasy as far as I can work out.....

Based on the fact that there has been a huge upsurge in interest since packages and deals have been announced.

It has been a long road since losing our ground in '97. 13 years of playing at Gillingham (for two years) and a converted athletics stadium has obviously affected our attendances, but there is that feel good factor at the moment. Granted, it is difficult to predict what will happen attendances wise, but the club feels that they will be able to shift 15,000 season tickets. The uptake of the '1901' club* was phenomenal and they have had to increase the levels of that.

I'm sure a lot of clubs will be eager to fill the away end during the first season.

We have a whole county at our disposal and for the first time in nearly two decades, we have a rosy future and have a stadium that is a pleasant place to visit.

    * £500 for a five year deal or £1,000 for life - then £75 or £99 (+vat) per month. We have sold over 2,000 of them already.
  • Brighton will fill that ground no problem.
  • Bit of disinformation regarding the stadium. The chairman didn't take on the debt - it's his money. He ended up funding it the lot because Brighton had trouble borrowing it, timing the building of the stadium nicely alongside the near collapse of the banking system ! - So yes he is that rich, but obviously not in a Russian Oligarch way.

He didn't appear out of nowhere - he's been funding the club behind the scenes for years as a director. I understand the quoted figure regarding the stadium is actually the total amount he had put in over the last few years.

I have the utmost respect for Charlton and I'm old enough to see us playing you years ago at the "old" valley. Charlton have the been the club that a lot of us have aspired to be during the wilderness years. If Charlton could sort their stadium and league position out then so could we. There was even a "Seagulls Party" that entered candidates in local elections to raise awareness about the stadium "fight", a campaign which took inspiration from a similar initiative in SE London.

So there is a bit of a buzz on the South Coast at the moment and I'd like to think we are on the start of "doing a Charlton", even if our aspirations are really mid table Championship.

Although the new stadium has a limited capacity (due to the initial planning application) there is capacity to grow if need be and interest surrounding season tickets has far outgrown initial expectation. It's also going to really nice inside, REALLY NICE, one of the best in the country in quality if not capacity.
  • Reason we have Keith Peacock coming in to Hold the Fort ?????? so you can get use to Vertically Challenged Manager on the Touch Line.

Cannot believe CAFC Fans would want Wise.....he was not a likeable player when at Chelsea and Managed Millwall.

Hoddle is out there Phil Brown or Poyet --we are a far Bigger Club than Brighton.

Our Next Manager is a Big Call......

One other Thing when they sacking Peeps on Tuesday .....I could name 5 Players that they should have been given the Alan Sugar Treatment

Why do you think you are a far bigger club that Brighton and will you be a far bigger club than Brighton in six months time?
  • We are a much bigger club than you mate, wait till the end of the season at least.. and for starters look at history, current fanbase etc.

Six months time we'll still be a much bigger CLUB than brightonn, although maybe below them in the table..
  • [cite]Posted By: Barrel of Fun[/cite]Why do you think you are a far bigger club that Brighton and will you be a far bigger club than Brighton in six months time?

We are a bigger club than Brighton, not really something you can debate, it's fact.

Regardless of how this season ends, we'll still be a bigger club than brighton.
  • Highest home attendance 8,374 (29 December 2010 vs Charlton Athletic

    Average home attendance 7,124

    Says it all really.
