Jeez this Stevo really is a confident bloke isnt he!?The way I look at it is, we havent won since November and deservedly so, yet we are still only 3 wins off them. Anyone would think from reading this blokes comments they are completely out of reach of everyone let alone us!Let me tell you pal, you have got along way to go yet!Im pretty sure Norwich, smashed the league last season and they werent exactly running away with the league at the start of the new year, like your lot supposedly are!Come back and large it up in May! Anyway back on topic, as somebody else has already mentioned, football today isnt all about honesty and loyalty! There are a number of reasons as to why he would stay at Brighton but there are also many reasons as to why Gus would want to come to Charlton (again). You may just may regret making all these comments Steve!
[cite]Posted By: stilladdicted[/cite]Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes told Bettingpro: “We had our book open for just 45 minutes and in that time we saw enough money for us to pull it down again. It was one way traffic for Wise and it bears all the hallmarks of a done deal.”
Please could someone who knows what they're talking about explain this to me please?
He's saying that Laddies were only taking money for Wise and as such they have no interest in keeping a market open where there only one is being backed i.e. those individuals have the benefit of inside info. This happens a lot and they may re-open their book once if and when there is a denial regarding Wise from the Club or from Wise himself.
Is this what it has come down to? My clubs bigger than yours and Brighton/gay jokes. As stilladdicted said in the spare a thought thread, "juvenile comment".

Thank you so much, I didn't know how common this type of thing was so that's exactly what I wanted to know.
Not likely, but its not exactly impossible is it? Would be similar to the coyle to bolton move. When our own fans have no idea how much money we have available, it's hard to rule it out. I love brighton as a place as i'm at uni there and they have potential to grow, but them establishing themselves as a premier league club would take longer than it would for us.
I do fully expect wise now but zola still lives in chislehurst i think so i wouldn't be shocked if nla was right
An old mate of me old man says he heard that Varney has been talking to Curbs a couple of weeks before the takeover was completed about the prospect of exaclty this! Think he blowing smoke up my ass tho really, but thought Id share it.
[cite]Posted By: Rudders22[/cite]not forgetting we can build ours to 40,000 !!! I can't see Poyet coming here personally but it all depends who is running our club, the financial backing etc. We may match Poyet's backing and ambitions with Wise. Everywhere Wise has been Poyet has been. Our management may have the financial clout to pay Birghton compensation required. ie Brighton look like they are going to go up, however in future times we might be able to attract better players to Charlton being a champonship club then Brighton do

Lets say if Brighton,Saints and Hudders go up.
You will find next season just as hard as Wednesday have a rich chairman not forgetting clubs coming down from the championship and Posh as well.
Brighton will be a decent championship side under Gus so there's hope for you.
Huge jump between League 1 and Championship, players are a much bigger factor.
Out of interest Stevie, i understand your Chairman has taken on a debt over over £90M to build the ground. Obviously he's gonna want that paid off, he's not that rich. And no offence but with a 22k capacity that's gonna take time. What's the plans for the repayments and how is that gonna effect the ambition when it comes to players etc?
Things like this also has an effect on the future of your team and manager.
I thought you said you would come back with a picture of Greer lifting the League 1 title - but instead you came back with more dross. Talk about tempting fate!
Regardless of whether there's anything in the Poyet rumour, I'd like us to appoint a manager who is currently with a club. At least this means we'll get who we want, rather than just who's available at the time as was the case with Dowie and Pardoo.
Hello Charlton. Just moved away from Eastcombe Avenue, having lived there for 10 months. Pleasant little area, it must be said. I do miss Blackheath.
Poyet has just signed a four year deal, an improvement on his previous contract, so it will, presumably, take a great deal of cash to prise him away from us.
Gustavo seems to be a very sensible chap. He cut his teeth as a no. 2 for a fair few years and has landed himself a decent job, turning down the chance to carry on his internship with Real Madrid. If he had any sense, he wouldn't jump ship to Charlton. It is not a step up really, is it? We will be level pegging on potential income next season with our new stadium on the horizon. He has his foot firmly in the door with a decent job here and Charlton would surely be a risk. That is not a slight on Charlton, but it would be a pointless move unless the new board are promising untold riches to rise back up the leagues.
As for ties with the area, it doesn't matter if he lives in Orpington or Brighton or Hastings, surely? I thought you shipped in paying fans from all regions in the South-East., so where he lives is irrelevant.
On the stadium front - Not all of the £100m is being funded by Tony Bloom. There is a significant amount in grants for road/rail upgrades. The loan is interest free for 25 years and we will not be paying rent as it stands. Mr Bloom has a long history with Brighton and Hove Albion. His family have been directors for decades. He doesn't appear on a rich list in England or Australia (where his other base is) and his wealth is somewhat shrowded in mystery, but the signs look promising. This is not a man with no links to the club whatsoever. He has not waltzed in and promised the world and more without any sort of history.
Oi Steve, you wont win the league and i'd lay money on that, alot if the odds were right.
Youve got a new stadium with 22000 capacity, its smaller than ours and you wont fill.
Even if you do fill it thats still a smaller average crowd than us in the championship.
Your a small club, much smaller than us - a club on the up, maybe, but gonna take time to be regarded as big as we were - and even are now.

steveBHA f**king wind it in would you, you're making us look like muppets.
Sorry about the village idiot, that's t'internet for you.
As for Poyet going to manage you lot, I just can't see it happening. That's just my opinion obviously, but going on things he's said in the past when he's been linked with championship clubs, he's a year into building a team that plays his style and he wouldn't want to start again from scratch. I can see why you'd think he'll jump ship from us given our recent history and the state of our ground compared with yours, but soon we'll have a new ground and will be better equipped to compete with other clubs. Think about your rise through the leagues when you moved back to the Valley and that's about where we'll be next season, whether it's this league or the championship.
I'm not surprsed you sacked parky in the end, I've been looking at his post match comments since we beat you at your place and the bloke did himself no favours. With a decent manager and a bit of cash after the takeover you'll be there or thereabouts along with us, southampton, sheff and hudds.
On the other hand managing a club isn't all about how big that club is. Even if the Brighton fans want to kid themselves and believe they are a bigger club just because they happen to be 4 or 5 places higher than us in the league they have to realise that Charlton offers him more time with his family due to the ground/training grounds facility vicinity & more of a chance to see his son play & help his son develop as a player.
Remember he's a father & husband before he's a football manager.

the voice of reason well said mate, i dont think we will get poyet ( i would love it to happen but i think he has more about him than to jump ship)
look forward to your progress and hopefully due to the excellent swift action from our new chairman play you in chumpionship with the stripey croyden scum drowing in league one

I tend to agree with you ....hopefully its a new era for us and we should be in the mix with you and the other clubs you mention....nice to get a sensible post from a league one rival.

D was told this morning to get some money on poyet told NSS maybe he put a load of money on him cos his price came down quite rapidly so obviously someone has put money on him also told that big money is in the background as to our conversation last night dont think you are far off mate ,poyet moneywise wouldnt be a problem also told wise doesnt fancy managing again but i expect him to be around in some capacity.

We may win the league, we may not. We'll have a better idea once the 46 games have been contested.
You have just stated that our stadium had a capacity of 22,000 (a bit more than that to be more precise) and that filling it will not equal your average attendance of your time in the Championship. Your previous avergae attendance in the Championship was 20,894, now I am not an accountant, but that figure would seem to be smaller than 22,500.
A small club we may be, but much smaller than you? You seem to be under the impression that Charlton are a footballing gargantuan. I'm not sure what your definition of a big club would be? Next season, we are pretty much level pegging when it comes to income and viability. In fact, I would be willing to suggest that our new stadium will be far more profitable than the Valley, despite the disparity in capacity.
Let's face it. There are gigantic and monstrous clubs with money to burn, there are some clubs that might flirt with promotion to the top tier and spend a season or two there and then there are some clubs that will never reach that height unless some millionaire with more cash than sense fancies a glass of wine or three with old Cherry Nose at Old Trafford.
I would love him J i really would just cant see it, i think he has a fair bit of integrity and i reckon he will see the job out, my moneys on clarke and zola, good news on the cash front
TJ been playing golf today by any chance mate and you been tipped the wink ;-)
Stranger things have happened. When pardew was sacked Burnley were in the top four of the championship on the way to eventual promotion to the PL but it didn't stop Owen Coyle applying for the vacancy a The Valley. Another not even afforded an interview.
