  • Said earlier in the week that Fernandes would be good news. He runs lotus f1 well and seems to be realistic about their progress in f1.

Would be surprised if he was investing in us and won't believe it till it's on the o/s
  • I want to know as much as the next man, but if someone told you something in confidence, Muttley, I think that it means that you aren't supposed to tell anyone...

...let alone post it on an internet forum!

Patience people, please - we have had quite a bit of dignity so far and now things are going down the pan at an alarming rate!
  • What's the point of Wikileaks when we can't find out really important stuff like who the mystery consortium are?
  • Try this clue- 1913-1938-197?
  • not sure how relavent this is but ive heard Lotus and Renault will be merging next year, plus whoever said this post should be members only is right

    Christ, it's David Bowie

    Nice One!! ;0)
  • Mr Fernandes sounds a highly plausible prospect. He wanted West Ham, has experience in football merchandising, but some trouble with his airline finances and Lotus branding may have restricted his ambitions at that time. He was linked with PV and Jimenez during the West Ham stuff a year ago. Buy out/merger of his airline is very much in the offing so I'll go with this theory. He seems quite a character and has a unique business philosphy in that his main idea is to concentrate on making his employees happy rather than the customer. If the employee is happy, he reasons, they will work hard for the customer. He likes to know the ins and outs of every aspect of the work he expects people to do and personally got to know the work involved working as a check in man, baggage handler etc for a few days. Wonder which position he'd like to trial on the pitch?

    Can he play Right back?
  • did a quick google and found this, which gives a pretty interesting hint to fernandes..

  • well done detective Kentaddick... (I am now of the opinion it is him through his well know investors) shall we leave them to it as I don't want anything to go wrong. Lets all keep stoom now. People have made reference to them and the reaons for them are VERY plausible. I have asked myself several questions and I think this one does fit the bill and i apologise for Muttley yesterday but looks like he is quite right
  • It's certainly very plausible. Perhaps this thread should be now members only although if The Telegraph has caught wind so will others very soon so perhaps the genie is now out of the bottle anyway.
  • that article was 5th February by the way. Ive read that Fernandes is about to invest £68 Million in a chain of cheap room hotels, most of which is not his money by all accounts. Hope its not him.
  • Someone on another forum has speculated that it's English consortium and one of the members is dodgy.
  • Perhaps us knowing will indeed go down to the wire then ?

That can only mean Stan Collymore..............................
  • It may not be even certain we'll know the individuals involved when the deal is announced to be fair.
  • Imagine if we had a Latvian style takeover like Hearts and got a latvian manager adn the latvian nation team, that would be amazing.
  • Amazing would be one word for it, Siblers...it wouldn't be the first one that sprang to my mind, though!
  • the article was written a while ago, but i'm sure he must have thought about his options for a while and then got together his consortium etc over the summer/autumn and launched his bid this winter?

  • Annoying bloke behind me who thinks he's in the know about everything and doesn't shut up for the whole game says there's four names. Two you'd know and two you wouldn't. Make of that what you will. (A load of old tripe I reckon!).

Glad we don't yet know to be honest and hope no one finds out or spills the beans before the deal is ready.
  • From our old friends Football Rumours . If true I'm happy

    Charlton breaking news! !

I work for the broker who is conducting the due diligence in this deal.

Charlton new take over to be completed by Christmas eve, Peter Varney the old Managing Director is fronting the smoke screen for 3 large financially strong city millionaires. Varney will remain in charge. Mr James Macey and James Topping, wish to remain anonymous, similar to the Marcus Evans situation at Ipswich. They have promised a kitty of around 3m to Philip Parkinson and he has until the end of the season for his future.

Both Millionaires are keen to put CAFC back in the prem, then offload the club back for a healthy profit.

Mr Macey has made his money in investments and strangely from a internet wig company.

Many people believe Dennis Wise to be involved, but this is untrue.

  • If true then Philip Parkinson can buy Bradley Wright Phillips off of cash strapped Plymouth Argyle!

much more believable than the fernandes rumour tbh. Glad parky will get some funds, he seems to bring in the right characters and players at the club. Can also spot some bargains like Michael Turner at Hull and seems to spend his money wisely
  • My bet is on this guy:

Dr Hong ChenMy bet is on this guy
  • I can't see Tony Fernandes wanting to buy a League One club. He is a great marketing man but Air Asia or Tune Hotels on CAFC's shirts won't have the same global impact as the same logo on the referee's shirts or Lotus and Williams cars. There's no League One TV coverage in the target area, i.e. Asia, and it's a bit too much of a gamble, surely, to bank on successive promotions to get the global exposure in a decent timeframe.

Of course he could bring the budget airline/hotel model to the football stadium: cheap admission but extra to choose your seat, take a bag inside, use the toilet, view the big screen, get a phone signal and an especially hefty surcharge for those that want to leave the game before the final whistle.

I'd love to be wrong as I would be very happy with discounted Air Asia tickets for all Valley Gold members, and to see match reports in the Air Asia in-flight magazine, but I would guess that it's a consortium of local businessmen.
  • if this is true as someone said can we make this a members only pls
  • The Macey and Topping rumour is a wind up or I've been drinking with a secret millionaire for years!

The Macey and Topping rumour is a wind up or I've been drinking with a secret millionaire for years!

I suspected it might be after all of the wind ups on FR in the summer . I posted it because like others I cannot see this takeover being 'big money' and a Marcus Evans style approach would suit us , wishfull thinking I guess
  • Mart

I think this could be true as the 2 people you are talking about are not the same people you drink with?

On this occassion Mart your wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!
