I have avoided coming on here until now as I've been so angry and annoyed with our fans that I've not wanted to read what any of you have to say.
I don't mind singing, but what I do mind is you calling what we had last night 'support'. It was not support as it had absolutely no baring to what was happening ont he pitch. There was a couple of really tense moments when they could have scored - one terrible back pass which Robbie only just managed to get hold of. But no fans reacted because you weren't watching. The yellow card was for nothing much at all but the ref was free to give it because the fans made no complaints because they weren't watching. And then some genius throw a toilet roll on to the pitch in front of a goal we are trying to score in. Of course the goalie wasn't bothered about it and made only a slow attempt to move it. And I don't suppose any of you registered the shock on Waggys face when he saw ot because you weren't looking. Would the person who threw it have owned up if we had one of those balloon moments where a shot hit the roll and went out?
So don't tell me you were supportive because you weren't you were just acting like a rabble.
And I hope none of you complain if Murray ever decides to sell to a new owner who you don't consider 'Charlton' because we're a family club. Last night proved we are just as moronic as the next lot.

in my opinion that has been creeping in for the last two or three seasons. It really makes you cringe sometimes. I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thinks so.
I know, i know, i know they was being rude and going mental just for the sake of it, and not paying much attention to what was happening on the pitch, but if that don't happen again then id rather have these moronic fans (as you call them) at the charlton games, because they made it loud and loud is fun (when done correctly)
OK Lads - and any gentle women folk out there - I was there amonst the load crowd last night and the atmosphere was absolutely great. And I'm 58 !!!!! Ok a bit of harmless fun with the banter and the toilet rolls (they shouldn't have left them hanging around) but all in good jest. What are you going to expect with a good bunch of avid fans. It was an honour to be amonst those that give us all the songs at home and away. It's what the team wants to hear - a great supporting crowd. Keep it up and We'll be going up at the end of the year and going to Wembley. I think we have a great and progressive team this year and have great hopes.
Well done all of you for keeping CAFC alive and kicking.

Join a choir. There you can sing your little heart out, have lots of fun and not have to pretend to be the slightest bit interested in football.

Now from a 58 year old gentleman, i guess it wasnt as bad last night. Good post.

Some rude comments flying in on here. I was watching the game, and i dont want to join a choir thank you. I want to go to football games watching charlton athletic with supporters singing and standing for the whole 90mins and NOT sitting there and maybe putting in the odd clap.
As i have said, they was slightly out of line yesterday, but the atmosphere most of the time was AMAZING! as for that reason i would rather that every single game.
Does that mean sitting there quiet and just watching the game in silence mean your supporting charlton? ....Nop.

But that's my point. How can it possibly have helped the players when it did not relate to what they were doing. The cheering of good passes was drowned out and the fans was joyfully singing at one end when at the other end disaster was about to strike and the players were shouting at each other.
You can not call that support. Its just noise.
Ignoring the players by singing to yourselves and not watching them is, in my opinion, no more supportive of the team than being silent.
I do remember a decade ago, a very big-boned lady steward getting a lot of stick from our support at Walsall (the night of the Pringle miss) - I think she ended up getting a public cuddle from a shirtless Charlton fatty.
As they say -what has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, there is nothing new under the sun
every single day there are complaints and digs at our support, last night, some of it was over the top, personally i didn't throw any toilet rolls, keep any footballs or jostle any stewards but everyone (well apart from some it seems) was having a right old time, we were 1,200 odd creating the noise of double or treble that. We even got some more interesting songs in like Pride of all London, Goodbye Horse etc which nolly would approve of!
the worse that happened was a couple of toilet rolls on the pitch Jesus H. last night Birmingham fans were throwing seats at Stoke that hit their own supporters, Plymouth fans were pelting Exeter with flares and missiles, the worst we came up with was two toilet rolls on the pitch... WHY DO WE HAVE TO COMPLAIN ALWAYS?
"the cheering of good passes was drowned out" - what is this 1956? if you want time and silence to give hearty applause to a performer's good efforts go to the bloody theatre.

Can't believe the attitude of some on this thread and was not going to bother to post ... but I want to give ISLS support for his posting ... exactly the way I see it.
We won for god's sake ... and haven't lost since Brighton ... and we're not conceding goals ... enjoy the moment! As we know, it won't last forever.

I think I wrote cheer rather than applaud but whatever. Are you suggesting that the noise from the fans should be disconnected to the action on the picth? As this just re-affirms must conculsion that none of the poeple signing have the faitest idea what was going on on the pitch.
I'll go to theatre and applaud and you lot can go to church and sing a merry tune.
In answer to DRF - I don't imagine for one minute that the players are pausing to try hear what the fans are singing. For most of the time, the fans were focused on the action and I'm sure that by having a lot of noise at the away end, the players are glad to be hearing something. OK it may seem like just noise, but better than twiddling your thumbs and whispering to yourself "good pass" "nice header" etc.
Even though I'm 58, I'm not an old geeser. I'm young in my outlook, young at heart etc. Just as able to have a shout and enjoy myself as any of the youngsters in the crowd. At least they're not going around the street bashing people about!!
If you weren't at the match then you can't moan at us that were there and giving the lads great support.

Singing at football grounds is not a conducted event that must be in time with the play on the field ... it is exuberance, enjoying the moment, supporting the team loudly ... it may not always be in tandem with playing events but that doesn't mean that the supporters are ignoring the game.
Not sure why I'm trying to get the point across because you won't agree ... but hey ... this is a forum so we are all entitled to our opinions.
How about the other view then? Do you want silence?
Are these connected enough for you to the club/match?

All were sung more than once last night and formed the majority of our support.
I've tried not to get drawn into this post all day but it has done my head in. Moan moan moan, doing it better than anyone else since the last decade.
Last night would have been half as fun/good without the atmosphere created, better than us all nail biting till the final whistle.. if we're winning, enjoy it! This thread would of been chaos had a large group of Charlton fans got onto the pitch after..
Bit of toilet roll and some singing at a poor steward, i'd definitely rather that than throwing seats, missiles and whatnot.
I'd love to see support like it week in week out, aslong as it's not OTT (where ever the line is drawn).. majority of the fans had a good laugh, and the players played well to get the win.
Cant we sing to the female stewards something along the lines of "we dont like the look of you, we dont like the look of yooooooouuuuu" much nicer and everybodys almost happy then
Comments
Was it her who got thrown out at Gill's away last season aswell ?
Banning order for the totty !!
Thats not very nice.
Dont think she got thrown out as she was there at the end of the game,
Think it was a lad she was with who got kicked out for something and she followed!
Just the four stewards? She can't have been carried out then.

Very imaginatively "therry racon" repeat ad nauseum
but I won't be singing it anymore, it's destructive, irrelevant and the players won't like it
