Real ale update

edited November 2010 in General Charlton
As a follow up to our recent correspondence – we will be trialling real ale in Bartram’s and a couple of kiosks for the Yeovil game.
We will be selling Courage best straight from the barrel in kiosk B (the big one in the lower north) and kiosk F (the big one in the upper north)
Initially I have ordered in 9 gallon barrels to restrict any potential waste issues – should the trial prove to be a success obviously we can then extend the trial to other stands.

  • Well done Dan

Now I hope its well signposted so people (who dont read this forum) can see its on sale!
  • well done mate, shame you can't get it in the EAST too :)
  • So let's hope it's a sucess in the covered end so we can get it in the East as well.
  • Excellent news, I'll have to make sure I get to the ground a bit earlier that day and grab a swift one in Bartrams.
  • Message to everyone in the North Stand: please get hammered before the game and at half time by buying loads of Courage

    Thanks
  • Hmm that's not a bad pint these days - brewed under licence at the Youngs & Wells brewery.

That's the "bring some friends for a tenner" day, so it should be quite busy.
  • Am loving this news!!!!

Think we may just have a few to be neighbourly :-D

    Nice one Dan x
  • Oh, and I should've said thanks and well done to all who got this to happen whilst I sat on my arse and did nothing!
  • well done paul. excellent news
  • Well done to those that push for this and well done to the club for listening and giving it a go.

Now it's down to those of you in the North Stand to drink yourselves silly at the Yeovil game to encourage the club to widen the trial.

  • fair play and well done Bexley Dan, don't drink the stuff myself, but now it's a case of 'use it or lose it'

Exactly, Offy. We've asked fot it, and now we've got it.

Now we've got to make sure it sells, tell our mates .....and buy it!
    Then we get it again.
  • Well done Paul and well done Dan.

    Hope it works
  • Nice one Paul
  • I'm relying on you guys to support this initiative so that Courage Best is still around when I come over at Christmas.

It's tricky for a place like Charlton because once tapped, a cask really needs to be used within seven days.

So you have to drink them out each time to really make it work!!

Are you up to the challenge? I agree with Saga Lout, Young & Wells are good brewers.
  • The club will extend the trial if it proves to be a success.
If sales are reasonable real ale will be available in the east and west stands to see what type of reception it gets.
Killar is right the shelf life is limited - so if you wish the club to sell it at every game please drink it!!!!
  • A victory for real ale against the evil forces of lager...

On a related note, I was at Dartford for the FA Cup game yesterday and I noticed that they'd come up with the revolutionary idea of pouring a load of pints before half time so that people could be served quicker and Dartford could serve MORE people and make MORE money. Despite having about 3 times as many people as at a normal home game, I got served in maybe two minutes.

Any chance we could get them to do something similar at the Valley?
  • That might work with fizzy beer, but I'd prefer my pint of 'real ale' (terrible name!) pulled as I buy it.
  • Excellent work Dan. I'll certainly try some - just to see if I like it of course ;-)

If anyone is in Essex in the last week in November, I can thoroughly recommend a trip to The Rochford Beer & Cider Festival. I plan going on the Wednesday & Friday afternoons and will be wearing something Charlton if anyone wants to say hello.
  • If someone in the north could chuck a couple of bottles over to east block H it would be greatly appreciated...

Seconded. Got to be better than the Oak of late.
  • Great news

Not really when you get served by staff that dont know the difference between Fosters & John Smith or cant use the till
  • Might stop those miserable old gits from moaning about grammar for 5 minutes.
  • Darn no ale in the East, might have to crash the north
  • This is great timing, I've managed to persuade 12 non-charlton mates to come to this game and they all like a pint of ale.
I'm sure they'll do their best to get those barrels finished!
  • Waste of time. Everyone knows that those in the north stand (which I still called the Covered End, by the way; call me old fashioned) drink lager. Won't happen again. Lip service only. Well done, but no cigar.

All of them - even the kids?

No, they probably drink coke and lucazade and stuff. Not real ale or lager, you twit. have a word.
