[cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]think a lot of people on this thread are being very disrespectful to Matty Holland and either have short memories or a screw loose.
Agreed. People only remember Matt Holland for the last season he was at Charlton. I for one, think he was class and he still should have been offered another season before he left . ( perhaps he was?) As for the question of whether he was better than Kish i think it's a hard one to call. If i had to make a decision i think i would pick Holland - Just.
Matt Holland was a poor player from the moment he didn't have Parker to carry him. Truely the he most ineffective player I have ever seen.
How you can call him "class" I don't know.
Give me Kish over Holland anyday.
Agree with that 100%, Holland should have went a long time before he did.
There is not a single player in the current squad who can come close to lacing Matt Hollands boots and you shouldn't judge a man on his last season with the club.
He may not have had the skill but the desire was amazing. I really don't think Kish was a better player but as you say it's all about opinions.
Perhaps I'm old school but i would have John Robinson over both and i bet he wasn't on a wage that came close to either of theirs.
Not judging him in his last season at all. His first 2 seasons for us he was average, the rest of the time he was missing.
John Robinson was a winger, I dont think you can compare the 3 players really.

You can call him average - thats your opinion ( not mine ) but the guy NEVER went missing.
Victor palsson on loan from liverpool could be the answer. Captain of the reserves plays center mid or center defence, we are lacking in both so would be a good loan. Looks like he may be loaned to Peterborough dont know why we dont get in there first and get him.Palsson
Holland wasn't called Mr Clean Shorts for nothing. Ran around and never went missing yes. But also never tackled, never did anything but pass sideways or backwards, and as a 'Captain' was hopeless. (Like most of our captains since tbh).
As mentioned above this is NOT judging him on his last season - it's on all the time he was here. A few good moments in the first one or two seasons is not enough.
He got that player of the year because everyone was so bloody gash.
It's a shame that 25 grand a week, get's you an over-rated prem never been. But I'll agree he never went missing. Flying in for crap tackles or being out of position, lose you more goals than I can remember. I'd like to think a 250 grand a year would get you a reliable prem player, but we saw enough that got much more and never were reliable at any time.
Kinsella, was truly remarkable. Some of the stuff he did on the pitch I think people gave credit to Les Reed. After seeing other Les Reed coached teams, it was obvious most of the excellence of Kinsella was in game-time vision and nothing to do with coaches. My favourite Charlton player, just above Minto; who's more of a forgotten memory for me now. Watching Parker and how he has developed his game as a senior pro, whether it's through injuries or not Parker desperately needs a defensively reliable midfielder next to him and then only becomes a major factor when the opposition breakdown. He is not box to box defensively/offensively balanced now, Kinsella was. Kinsella at a mature footballer's age, could do it all and did it all with cm's who were barely champ standard let alone prem.
Still back to the point in hand. I'm happy to see Semedo in the team, but maybe McCormack and jackson would offer a better more competnetly agressive option. I couldn't call that one, but I'd certainly have McCormack or Jackson above Racon any match.
Semedo's alright. Leave him alone. He is actually trying too hard at the moment. My only grouse with him is that he too often goes backwards when he could go sideways or forward. He shouldn't attempt those killer passes. Funny enough Kish also used to attempt 40 yard passes and they rarely worked.
