  • its been shut down now for a few months but the william in greenwich was terrible
  • The Wetherspoons in Greenwich is dire, in fact most Wetherspoons are dire. No music, same crap carpets and same types of people.

Most Wetherspoons are pretty bad - the one at Baker Street before and after England games is particularly grim.

Walked past the Lewisham Wetherspoons earlier tonight and two women walked out having a stand-up row over some bloke - once I'd found a working cashpoint I came back the other way and they were still at it.

The William IV in Greenwich is due to become a "sports bar", apparently.

Another vote for the Punch & Judy. Horrible tourist trap shithole full of ponces, pickpockets and wannabe gangkstars. Kent Tavern is another good shout - not been in there for donkeys years though, so can't verify its as much of a horrible dump as it used to be.

The absolute worst pub I've ever been into in London was undoubtedly the Propeller on Purley Way. Gippos, smackheads, chav scum and the absolute worst 'food' you could ever imagine. They knocked the fucker down a couple of years ago - a part of me inside smiled.
  • Is Old Friends still there in Greenwich - what a place that was!
  • a further vote for the punch and Judy... total rubbish...

Shut about 18 months ago and awaiting demolition. With the loss of the William, the "worst pub in Greenwich (non-tourist category)" award now goes to The Crown.
  • [cite]Posted By: InspectorSands[/cite]The Two Chairmen off Trafalgar Square (Pall Mall corner, by that Scottish place) always used to be the grimmest pub in the West End - shit beer, rickety furniture, curled-up sarnies in sellophane, incredibly dilapated considering its location. It may have been done up in the 3 or 4 years since I last set foot in there.

Off_It may have struck gold with the Kent Tavern/Kent Connection/Boadicea.

Done up now. Blues/Jazz music, bar staff of the 'cool' variety, table service and they beat you with a stick (almost) if you do not use a beermat.
  • The Hope, Tottenham St.
Stopped going in there 18 month ago.

A pub with no beer is not a pub. Never run out of lager though.
  • Any pub where they don't do real ale - shouldn't be allowed to be called a pub.

  • in fact, they should be made to display the following sign under the name of the pub: 'Can't be arsed to sell real beer as it goes off, takes more effort and and we can't make as much money out of you' Apparently Palace have started selling real ale in the bars in the stadium since the new owners. Mate at work is a season ticket holder. Maybe Charlton could do the same - i'm sure it would increase the amount of beer drunk in the ground and add to much needed revenue.
  • Star of the East - Commercial Road

    WOW

went to an underground rave last night and got there early so went in the nearest pub for a couple. It was like travelling back in time. The people in there were 'special' to say the least. It was like the perm was fashionable again and tracksuit bottoms with shoes was an acceptable appearance. All harmless of course, but it certainly opens ur eyes.
  • What was the pub right outside Greenwich station called?
  • The Mitre?
  • The Dolphin in Sydenham:
Trys sooo hard to be trendy.......
    looks a mess !
  • Prince of Orange, now St Christopers I think
  • The ship on Lime St. up in the city.
Closed now, but was a real dingy old dark underground pub.
No doubt it will be replaced with a TM.Lewin.

Yup, the Prince of Orange - right old spit and sawdust boozer, had a spot reserved in the corner for an elderly customer who I think was deaf and couldn't speak properly. Used to be part of my pre-Venue drinking routine way back when!

Shut about 10-12 years ago - now St Christopher's Inn/Belushi's.

Was in the Argyll Arms by Oxford Circus station last night - it's actually a very nice pub but so absolutely ruined by having Madonna and Lady Gaga at such conversation-killing volume, I thought I'd wandered into an Old Compton Street bar by accident.

Was there a theatre above the Prince of Orange or am i thinking of somewhere else?
  • Used to use it very early in my drinking days when on the yts at Greenwich station. Was a spit and sawdust place.

  • Try The Chequers (Draughts or whatever it's called now) on Eltham Hill. RalphMilnesGut and I had a bizarre evening with the locals in there.
  • Yes, there was a theatre above the Prince of Orange - in fact, it's still going, now called the Greenwich Playhouse.

We certainly did. I think the much talked about sister/Mother Father/brother song was written about this rather 'unique' pub.
  • A couple in Plumstead - The Lord Derby and the Electric Orange.
  • the good mixer - camden.
famous in the 90s by britpop band members who hung out there.
worst toilets ever in a pub.
now frequented by tramps, try-hards and amy winehouse.

Any 'pub' which mentions the word 'kitchen' (rather than 'Food Available') outside it, i.e. 'The Old Ship: Bar & *Kitchen*'

Guaranteed a wank interior, full of poncy dicks, overpriced lager and menu selections heavy on the rocket and 'media jus'.
  • The Queen Anne in Vauxhall is closed.

Denise (the owner) was murdered in the Dominican Republic.

It's going to be a theatre!
  • The Star & Garter on Bromley high street, recently re-branded and re-opened as a gay pub I think after being closed for a couple of years but before that it was a real hole.

Was in there for the night it finally closed, the whole pub got trashed in what must of been a good 10-15 man brawl, just remember two blokes came in, took their shirts off and glassed the landlady and then went absolutely nuts, never seen a fight like it. Brutal. never opened again after that.

There must be a joke to be made from a sentence with "gay pub" and "real hole" in but I'm damned if I can find it!

It was a gay bar back in the 80s or 90s as well I think to try and calm it down, now that was a rough pub! There were guns clearly visible on a shelf under the beer pumps! There was a massive brawl outside O'neils a few years after it changed from being the Ferkin, must have been around 40 involved, all coked up to their eyeballs. The Royal bell was also rough as, not a Saturday night kicking out time passed by without someone getting glassed. That's been boared up for years now after being re-branded a few times. Ironically they didn't let me in when it was called BR1 because I was wearing white trainers!!
