  • first half was cack no cohesion no guile.

2nd half much better the difference it makes in this league to cross a ball early can not be over stated.

the defenders in this league are poor by crossing balls in the manor of which we did tonight we will put inexperienced or aging pro's under immense pressure.

it is not hard and it should be being preached at every available oportunity, 3 goals in 3 games have come from decent delivery into the box

I think there is a lot of criticism for a young man in Scott wagstaff a home grown talent who is in his first full season in his rightful position and i wish it would stop to be honest
  • We won, we was on telly and it was a cup match, i never thought it would happen! Reidy showed a touch of class with the crosses that we have been missing. The bad thing is i'm sure he will have two men on him all game against Plymouth now! Well pleased with the win. 4-4-2 on saturday Fortune and Dailly at the back, Benson and Abbot up front.
  • Good second half performance, first half was just poor, why cant we play for 90 mins? Reid was excellent and as a lot of people have said when we get crosses in quickly we make ourselves chances....not rocket sicence really. Interestingly they started to double up on Reid after we equalised and that gave us even more space to exploit. Now we should use this and kick on.....we're in a poor league and should be attacking more to put other teams under pressure....its all about confidence......that will gve us the results. Plymouth will be a good test, lets see what we bring. Daily and Forch for me at the back.

Agree, especially when he's already passed Lloyd Sam's career goal tally...
  • Missed first 5 min, thankfully, and heart sank when turned on the box and see the score, already!
But thought we were clearly the better side, first half wasnt great but waggy and reid looked a threat without ever creatin anything, 2nd half bit like the first in way knocked it around nicely but finally some quality in the final third and a few great cross's, really could have been more, good couple of saves from robbie and a much more sured up defence with fortune/dailey, really wanna see that as the preffered pairing, esp at home from now on, francis was again poor and just seems just to hump the ball in the vague direction of 'upfield', didnt think semedo had a very good game either, nice to see us with some genuine pace and width, as soon as the ball was being played out wide we looked a threat, reid put in 2/3 delightful balls and generally caused their back four no end of trouble, waggy also put in a couple of crackers but no1 got on the end of them, if they had would he be getting such a 'slating', and as per right place right time to put away the winner, becoming a healthy habit that.

Abbot looked handy, good head for the goal and generally caused problems, a shoe in to start on sat, Martin hassled alot but never really looked a threat to me.

All in all good performance, and a much needed away win, dont care what pointless trophy this may have been in, we played a rival away from home and beat them thats home and away already this season, puts a marker down so when we go back up there another 3 points is easily achieveable in the league
  • shite 1st half ,gave the ball away to much ,2nd half much better what we should expect from our side , 2 great crosses from reidy 2 great finishes ,ive been very critical of parky lately but after the game he spoke well and he said he is confident our side will get better as the season goes on lets all hope so.

What are you? His uncle? ;-)

Seriously though, I like Waggy. I like he's one of ours and I like he's our top scorer. Just get frustrated a little by him though either by not doing something obvious like running away after giving the ball or just going missing. Its not a talent thing, its a brain thing. He does however make up for it when he pops up like he has a knack of doing.

Didn't think we were shite in the first half by any stretch of the imagination. The second half was a big improvement, but the first was still miles better than we played against MK Dons (last week) and Brentford.

Thought Waggy and obviously Reid were the standout players. Waggy may be inconsistent, but again he showed why he should play on the wing rather than up front as his goal came from drifting in at the back post completely unmarked, and he put in a lot more crosses than normal. He really is getting better and better, and this is with a weak right back behind him (though Francis was far better tonight than at the weekend).

Totally agree. Kyel Reid was great tonight but how many goals has he scored? Waggy had a good first half and a fairly anonymous 2nd half (watch the difference when Solly comes back - please!) but he scored a terrific goal. 5 goals, boys - and you're moaning about him?!
  • Love Reid.

    Hate Francis.

  • Francis is running out of time to pull this around.

Solly will be back to fitness very shortly I assume, perhaps Francis' last chance this weekend?
  • As a club with recent Premiership history we are critical these days of what we have but after the second half performance tonight that has to give the fans as much confidence in this team as it should give the players themselves.

I hope Wagstaff doesnt go back into his shell, true he didn't see any of the ball in the second half but he knew what he was doing when Reidy was about to cross.

As for the first goal, that is the sort of goal iv been wanting to see us score for years.

Superb to come from behind, the manner of the performance after Brentford was superb and Reid was superb.

There is hope again for Plymouth
  • Francis was decent second half I thought. Some quality defending at the back post, a superb delivery that would have resulted in a goal with a match fit Abbott running on to it. He does struggle to play it down the line though. More of silly mistakes than making stupid mistakes.
  • Thought we looked sharp going forward in the 2nd half.
Couple of marginal offsides went against us otherwise might have won it earlier.
    Great save by Elliott too!
Agree with Red Pete that some people seem to have rather unrealistic expectations - this is league one standard football and it ain't going to be pretty a lot of the time
  • What Choice said
  • First half both teams were poor, not just us. MK Dons just happened to get that early goal. Reid and Wagstaff tried to get a few crosses in, didn't get them quite right.

Second half as said much improved, Reid was always a threat. Although we didn't have loads of shots, was pleased to see us trying to get plenty of crosses in. Abbott, Benson, Sodje and Wagstaff can all score if we get good crosses in like Reid did. Francis for all his mistakes can put in a decent cross as well given a decent chance to.

As has been said elsewhere teams in this league are similar, a lot of games will be hard like that but if we play well enough we can win more than we lose.

We give away a few too many silly fouls, either trying to go in hard or tackling when we don't need to. Sometimes the player is going nowhere, or is in a position they aren't threatening, then we give away a silly free kick. Suppose it's better than us not competing, and we shouldn't be bullied on the pitch this season.

Be interesting to see the line up on Saturday. I do get the feeling Martin pretty much has to play. Ipswich are paying a lot of his wages as far as we know, they want him here to get more experience and not sit on the bench. If we're getting in crosses though, are we better having the pace out wide and playing Abbott with Benson, or even Sodje when fit? Martin does a few nice things, but often doesn't get them quite right or chooses the wrong option.

As for Wagstaff, he has made it this far through putting in the hard work, and he's the type of player who will keep working at his game. Even if he didn't look great for much of the game, he looks a far better player than the nervous one Pardew started in the cup against Yeovil a few years ago. He will get better in time given the games, still only 20. In comparison Lloyd Sam didn't get regular football until we were relegated from the Prem and he was 22/23, which surely didn't help his development.
  • Sat on the fence for some time on the Parkinson debate.
I never realised the amount of players we released / got in over the summer (20 out / 11 in)?
I certainly sympathise with his plight a lot more than previously.
Hopefully with him back on the bench things may change for the better.
I guess only time will tell.
Good second half. Reid different class.
    MK poor.
  • Waggy input;

    Goal line clearance
    Goal

    Job done
  • I'm not really sure where we put Martin. I think he has something to offer but I don't think anyone really knows where to put him. He's started on the left/right/centre but for all his work it hasn't paid off.

Maybe a few weeks coming on from the bench will make more of an impact?
  • Reid was my MOM. Abbott and Waggy took their respective goals well. Abbott had a good chance to score before his own goal, when he handballed in on goal...
Francis was very poor. His disribution was crap and his defending was worse. He doesnt even look like an athletic full back we need at this level to win games. Solly is my first-choice RB.
Elliot was comfortable most of the game.
Fortune was solid after takin Doc out.
    Waggy has heart!
Semedo made a couple nice tackles (could have been sent off but instead was lucky to get a yellow)
Racon has a bit of flair but he still doesnt do enough for me when playing CM.

  • I'd put Martin on the bench and move racon up a bit and bring McCormack back into the fray.

He is involved in the play so much, but so often makes the wrong decision. There's definitely a good player in there, but he needs some coaching to get the best out of him. That's not to say we can't make him a better player, but it's not going to happen overnight. Like Waggy, he's probably a work in progress but as he started out at Man Utd he was never going to get a lot of game time in his early career.

Certainly agree that it might be worth taking him out of the starting XI for a couple of games.
  • I think the players that finished should start at Plymouth. We looked far better when we wernt relying on Martin to produce something, however this coincided with MK going more offensive in the latter stages.

I dont think we can afford to rely on 1 player to produce, when we took him out for Benson we looked like team
  • Credit to Parky aswell tonight, his half time team talk made a difference.

Good to see Murray there as well, I think Charlton want to win this Cup this year!
  • Few interesting bits on CAFC Twitter

Parky confirmed Doherty was replaced at half-time because he was feeling 'a bit fluey' (MW) #cafc

It's MK Dons' first home defeat of 2010/11 and only Wycombe (apart from #cafc) have beaten them at home since March (MW) #cafc

Just in case you're wondering, the draw for the next round of the JPT is on Saturday at approx 10am on Sky's Soccer AM (MW) #cafc
  • Great to see Reid lasting the full 90 minutes. Pleased to see Racon running at them towards the end. We need to create chanes through the centre as well as from crosses.
  • is there any money at all in it for getting further?
  • Please get off Francis' back - it's getting REALLY boring now

2nd half he was solid, covered well, won his headers, wasn't skinned and put in a magnificent cross. If that happened in the prem people would say it was world class

Some of you will just dig at him regardless. His job is to defend and he did that well today.
  • [cite]Posted By: Mike[/cite]is there any money at all in it for getting further?

didnt some state that it actually costs us more if drawn at home than we make from gate and sponsership, big empty stadium still haing to pay for policing/stewarding etc
  • Good win tonight.

And two cracking goals into the bargain.

First half was a dreadful spectacle between two evenly matched (poor) teams but the second half we upped our game and produced some real quality.

Could things be on the up?
