[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]Why do you think you are in a minority? And does it matter? If they are you views then does it matter if more or less people agree with them?
I think it's more the point of being called a WUM or a booboy just for having an opinion that differs from others.
No one questions Oggies motives when he's being super positive, so why the change when someone is negative?
How can you question a supporters motives when they are being supportive? Maybe I missed something, but surely the idea of supporting a team is to support them. Personally I'm sick and tired of virtually every thread being hijacked by doom and gloom merchants. Every single thread about a signing this summer has been very positive, most people happy with the signings, and then Large posts a "good signing, but I still don't like parky" and the whole thread degenerates into the same faces bemoaning the fact parky is still our manager. Just once it would be nice is the people with nothing positive to say kept their thoughts to themselves.
I get it, there is a small and very vocal number of people who don't like or don't rate parky, I just don't want it shoved down my throat in every thread, and every subject twisted into the same tired bashing.
There are a number of fans who treat every loss as a disaster. There are also a number of fans who treat every loss as nothing to worry about.
Some people are optimistic, some people are pessimistic. One isn't more right that the other.
What I do note is that when we lose and the pessimists come out they get soundly shouted down by the optimist. However over the summer I don't remember a large number of the pessimists coming out and saying I told you we wouldn't go up. And when they did, the optimists din't come and say yes you were right. They instead came out and said but we only lost by one penalty, we only missed out by a few points, etc etc.
However about just accepting that people view thing differently instead of looking down at them or tell them off for expressing a view that is different to yours?
Football fans everywhere have a short-term view of things. It's part of the passion of football - if we didn't feel that every game was crucial we wouldn't be so emotionally involved. Remember that Norwich fan who tore up his ST on the first day of last season.
The pessimists are pessimists, often, because they are old enough to have seen it all before and know the signs of things going wrong.
They still support the Club and want it to do well so why on earth would there be ..." a large number of the pessimists coming out and saying I told you we wouldn't go up"... it is hardly something they want to glory in!!
Would be interesting to do some research into the demographics of the positives and negative people.
I think it might also be affected by who you go to games with. If you are surrounding by young excited optimistic youths then you pick up on this. If you go with your family who have in turn been going for years and have developed that sense of foreboding then it probably going to affect how you thik.
I don't think it is to do with age or how long you've been supporting Charlton either.
Oggy and Len are even older than me, Rodney is a lot younger, Nth London Addick is a lot fatter : - )
The problem is IMHO labelling people RT or Pess. Other than the WUMs and attention seekers who I try to ignore I try to take on board what people have actually written and agree or argue against that.
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]We should go into Administration now. It's the only answer.
Otherwise good points well made AFKA but expect the usual "CL is all Rose tinted and saying it's OK to lose 10 game" abuse from elsewhere.
Its all well and good to point out how level headed you are Henry, but posts like this are clearly placing you in one camp and designed to incite the other.
Me and Oggy pretty much agree and Im 32 so I dont know how that fits... been supporting them for well over 20 yrs..
I think Ive just had enough of the pain... wathing us get turned over in the prem week after week was horrible and sort of made me numb ot it and then the next relegation well that just took the buscuit... but last year there was some joy at least... some wins and some goals and very close to getting back up...
This year weve brought in some good players and looking at the 16 mins of highlights on CAFCplayer(hooray) it was great to see a really buzzing first half and MCormack getting stuck in, Semedo doing his thing, Abbott looking a hadful etc... you could also tell when listening to the game that we were well on top and should have realy sealed the game with a second before Semedos Red card....
So Im positive becasue with a few more additions I think its gonna be a good season...
Thats it.. nothing to do with age of Length of time of support etc.. IMHO...
PS it bloody freezing in melbourne at the moment and these upside down Kangaroo weirdos dont do doble glazing, they jsut pretend that winter doesnt exist when it most certainly does and for 4 months of the year its proper brass monkeys.. well in a 3-4 degrees kind of way...
[quote][cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]Not sure thats true... oggy is about 70 .[/quote]
And I am sure he's younger than me...
In my case, I guess that when you've worked in a business where every Joe thinks he could do better if only he could be assed (advertising) you tend not to rush to criticise a football manager without being fairly sure of your ground.
I also started to realise a few years ago that all fans are pessimistic about their club because they are aware of its many problems and shortcomings, and not at all aware of the problems of all the others. Thats why we came so high in the fans poll in the Guardian. There will be quite a few fans around the league looking at Kyel Reid and Lee Martin, and dreading the day they have to come to the Valley.
Whilst I am not quite in the Ooh Aah category, I am getting fed up with our demise over the last few years & take any defeat a lot worse, as the level we are at is much worse. Getting spanked by Man Utd is one thing losing a 3-0 lead at Shrewsbury well that is something entirely different.
I actually believe that we are heading in the right direction, but any defeat is NOT good for the team even in the Carling Cup, when people dress it up to pretend it's ok, that is actually nearly as irritating as the defeat itself.
I really don't care about last nights result or the result in November, but if we get any form of spanking on Friday then that will be a different matter. I undersrtand the defeat last night, although not loosing a 3-0 lead, but I won't understand a defeat on Friday or any players not giving and achieving their all.

Sorry but I wasn't pointing out that I'm level headed. You said that not me.
And I wasn't placing myself in one camp or another. Other people can do that but I don't put myself in a camp. Why should I?
The reference was to other websites who insist, against all the evidence, that all CL posters are "rose tinted". Unfortunately they will then feel justified in ignoring all the points that AFKA has made for just that reason.
[cite aria-level=0 aria-posinset=0 aria-setsize=0]Posted By: nth london addick[/cite]what about what he said to me the cheeky fecka what camp is that in
Just to add my 2p worth (not that I post often), I'm afraid I'm in the anti-Parky camp on the whole. I like the bloke from what I've seen of him, and I think as a manager he has lots of plusses, but sadly for me the most important thing - the tactical side - is where he comes up short too often, with losing the 3-0 lead just the latest example. In our relegation season we blew some 20 points due to conceding goals AFTER we'd already scored, and yet Parky moaned about the lack of a goalscorer. I've also heard it said (although I don't know how reliable this is) that it's Kinsella/Chapple who make the decisions about who we sign, which is a talent I'd always attributed to Parky.
I like it that there are so many people on here who are positive, but I think that as fans we should all remember that on this subject what really counts is how positive we are on matchdays, as opposed to how we express our opinions on an internet forum. As much as I doubt Parkys abilities, I would always get behind the team when it counts, and of course I'd love him to prove me wrong.
I am a born pessimist, and here Charlton are involved I worry for the sake of it......
I always have been that way with Charlton, I alway's state the mantra that it is never easy supporting Charlton, well it is not for me, I really wish it was, I would like to be detached and philosophical, but it is beyond me. I have no issues with fans being positive, or negative, that is the point of this forum. Being abusive and violent is however simply not acceptable.
I quite like the discussions I have on here, and compared to the OS site the arguments are normally well balanced and not so for or against, black and white. Nothing wrong with a good argument, that shows passion and a love for something.

To counter that you could say that Reid and Jackson decided to come back to Charlton despite having offers from elsewhere.
I agree with you Re:humiliating defeats v Millwall and Northwich but you totally undermine that by including Shrewsbury. No way is that comparable.
