When was the last time we were 3 nil up away from home in 32 minutes? That in itself is very encouraging, that and the fact that our center forward scored twice!
Can't believe there are people bemoaning the potential loss of revenue from this. If we got to the semi final we may have made a little, but I doubt shrews made anything last night and we certainly didn't. I notice one team, Brighton, who are meant to be one of our rivals for promotion this year had a player sent off, others may have picked up injuries or will do so in the next round. Better off out of this with such a small squad at the moment. We will appreciate this more in the next round when a lot of our rivals have an extra midweek game.
[cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]If it was a league game I'd be fuming but it wasn't. Naivity from the kids cost us. Get over it. They will learn far more from that than they would have done if we had cruised to a 5-0 win.
I don't often agree with Large (sorry, mate!) ...... but here's a guy who went all the way up there on a school night,
says it exactly as he saw it ...... and can see this particular cloud does indeed have a silver lining.
In fact, it seems that most of those who didn't go are 'fuming'.
And those that actually went to the match, have come back and told us that they enjoyed the game, there were many positives - and at times this cobbled together team played well.
Just for the record, I was at Hereford, Northwich and last night (perhaps I need to stay away from cup games - I didn't do any of the JPT games and we actually won one or two of those!). I was pretty angry after the first two, but last night felt different. We were horribly naive at times, but we at least troubled the scorers and it was individual errors and youngsters struggling to get to grips with senior football against a tidy side that cost us - not a collective absence of bottle and professionalism, as with the other two (particularly Northwich).
As ISaw said said in the match thread, sometimes shit happens - that's what last night felt like, not the manifestation of a deeper lying issue. Time will tell if I'm right, but it's too early for getting too irate with such a new team, imo.
[cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]just got to work. Stand by what I wrote at 2.30am. I had a cracking day out. Yes we shouldn't have lost from 3-0 up but considering we hadn't scored in the League Cup in the last three seasons I was happy we were 3-0 up at all. If it was a league game I'd be fuming but it wasn't. Naivity from the kids cost us. Get over it. They will learn far more from that than they would have done if we had cruised to a 5-0 win. Nice ground, nice place. Sign their nippy striker now.

Worley 7 Good game, did nothing wrong, handled and kicked well. He's a touch on the small side - but impressed overall - goals not his fault.
Francis 5.5 Poor game, hopefully because he is not match fit.
Solly 6 Decent game, but he was at fault for the winner, when he didn't clear a cross
Mambo 4 1st goal his fault as caught napping, 2nd an own goal by him.
Llera 6 Considering the other 3 defenders playing with him am not surprised he didn't exactly shine
Wagstaff 5 Sorry but did nothing much again
Stavinrou 3 Hardly touched the ball all night
Racon 7 Played well
Smart 5 Same as Waggy
Abbott 8 Excellent looked full of goals a constant danger
Martin 8.5 Excellent runs & movements played nearly as well as Reid did first half at Bournemouth MOM
Subs :-
Reid 7.5 Looked very dangerous again, but didn't have enough time.
Others were ok, too late to make a difference
In summary, I was quite happy as the experieced first teamers looked very good & the kids & newbies were found wanting.
As an interesting aside, in Round 3 of last year's competition, Stoke played championship Blackpool in front of 13,957 at The Britannia...
If you deduct a bit for Blackpool obviously bringing more than we would, a bit more for it being the 2nd Round and not the 3rd and possibly a shade fewer home fans because of League 1 opposition and Stoke now seemingly having 'established' themselves in the Premier League in comfortably avoiding the drop for another year we might have had around 7-10k... probably not going to be the payday some hoped for, and Stoke away you'd have to say would've likely been the end of the line for us in the competition.
Yeah, not really a glamour tie and not interesting enough to be on tv, Stoke are dirty bastards as well so it may seem like we dodged a bulett on this one. Since it hasn't been that long since we've been in the Prem, teams like Stoke wont really gather the crowds, although it would have been interesting to see how we'd have coped.

I thought it was a bit quiet in this classroom, Ken.

It'll be a good night out for them.
