fairly happy myself. Last year I went to Northwich and Hereford and we barely had a shot. I'd rather have gone out tonite losing as we did as opposed to losing 1-0 and not having a go. All goals by definition are somebody's fault but three tonight we due to individual errors. As good as Solly was at RB on Saturday then Francis was shocking there tonight. If that performance was anything to go by then Chris has no worries over keeping his place at RB. He was at fault for one of the goals but he was playing at LB out of position and if it had happened on the right flank he'd have cleared it. Mambo at fault for another but it was his debut and he has a future. Shame on the guy behind us who kept slagging him off, credit to Golfie for telling him where to go and get behind the team instead of constantly whinging. More positives than negatives in my opinion. Good performances by Abbott, Martin, Solly, Worner (not at fault for any of the goals imo and came off his line well on a few occasions and safe handling too). Very poor were Bally (bye, bye) and Waggy who hasn't stepped up to the plate as I was hoping he would. Stav did ok, nothing more nothing less, and Racon again promised much delivered little. Llera could have done better but wasn't as bad as some would have you believe. Lost the game in central midfield in my opinion, need some creativity to go alongside McCormack or Semedo. Squad needs imo 2 more strikers, a central midfielder and a right sided player to compliment/push Waggy on. Martin is going to be wasted there. I'd stick with Abbott and Martin on Friday, much more mobile and some understanding there, making's of a good combination.
By far a wasted journey, entertaining game and some very encouraging signs with a few anxieties mixed in. Nice meal and a couple of pints in a pub overlooking the Severn too.

Time and time again, Pav and Martin apparently linked up very well and created chance after chance between them.
And scored 3 goals away from home and could have had more.
According to reports, Martin was on fire in the hole playing off Pav, virtually unplayable at times.
For some time, we've missed that kind of creativity and link up play in the final third.
Despite the keeper doing reasonably well, the defence had no 'organiser'. - it seems we were particularly vulnerable at CB.
That's a key position where strength in depth is needed.
Lots of positives and hopefully lessons learned.
I wasn't at Shrewsbury but I'm pleased to read Large's thoughts - better to go out of a pointless cup with a bang, and learn a bit about our frailties/strengths - than limp out like we did last year or limp on and sap a limited side's strength. Hope the travelling hardcore got some enjoyment out of it, as Large seems to have done.
Face it, if you're a big-ish League One side, the first round of the League Cup is a glorified friendly, isn't it? At least it wasn't at The Valley...
Good to find out who performed on the night, and who didn't.
Thanks for the insight...
wot a joke no matter wot sort of team we have on the pitch you should never lose after going 3 up but then again it is charlton ,in all that is not good enough by any standards total shite.
Well done on those that went. Shame we didn't lose 1-0, would have been easier to stomach.
Regardless of age and experience you can't be losing when you're 3-0 up in pro football.
I think Jackson can/will be the midfield creator when Fry or Youga are ready.
Just back from the game. Shrews fully deserved it and had the better of the game even before we scored. That said, you should never lose from a 3-0 lead.
Positives - when we kept it on the deck, Abbot and Martin linked well. Martin was particularly impressive and all 3 goals were well taken, although our first was pretty route 1. Signs are there could be a lot to come from these two, certainly think we're going to score more goals this season. Thought Francis played okay too.
Negatives - Mambo, Stav and Wagstaff are out of their depth at the mo. Solly is okay at right back but looks uncomfortable on the left and vulnerable to pace. We defended very poorly at times, particularly the two centre backs and it was too late by the time Docherty came on, but for me the midfield lost us the game. Stav was chasing shadows quite a lot and was took quick to hoof when he got it, Racon was neat and tidy but didn't make enough tackles and too often passed sideways when we needed him to take control of the game. I felt sorry for the two wingers to an extent because the centre of midfield was never really under our control, but Waggy did very little except give the ball away through a lcak of composure and Smart may as well have not been on the pitch. Reid improved things a bit, again it was too late by then. McCormack should have been brought on at half time, but I think Parky was concious Semedo is unavailable on Friday and didn't want to risk losing Ally Mac as well - I can understand that.
No excuses but, whilst I can see on here that a good few people are fuming, I'm not going to slate the team or the manager. This competition doesn't matter one jot to us at the moment and I think Parky was right to make the changes with a far more important league game just 3 days away. Until the defence collapsed under the weight of individual errors the 3-0 lead was vidicating him. It was also a good opportunity to give the youngsters a proper run out and get a good look at them - at least we now know for certain we can't rely too heavily on any of them yet.
A bad night, but I'll not look to far into this one - there will be more reliable measures of this season's team in the league.
.......3 points on Friday and this will be a distant memory.
Disappointing about Smart but not surprised. A gamble just like Wade Small that probably won't pay off, and we can get rid him whenever we want.
Parky suggested he's still after 1 or 2 players, I'd guess that's either 2 strikers or 1 striker and a winger. Maybe a replacement for Smart if he goes.
Oggy - did anything ever feel like the end of the world to you ?
Losing a 3-Nil lead is shocking, but agreed not life threatening for the whole of humanity. As I said elsewhere, why enter the competition if we are happy to go out at the first hurdle. Better to save the petrol and persil.
Although I am not that bothered about losing, don't think people should be spinning the result up because we scored a couple of goals. I wonder if everyone will be so forgiving if we blow a 3 goal lead at Orient on Friday I'll wager that they won't. Losing a 3-0 at ANY level of football including park football is inexcusable end of story.
That's a very interesting point, personally I am sick to death of the constant early exit from just about every cup we enter to lower leaue opposition. Are we allowed to Enter the kent County Cup...on second thoughts we'd probably go out First Round.
at least we scored 3 goals, looks like MArtin and Pav could be a great partnership, lets hope Parky gives it ago at Orient Friday Night
What WSS said.
That says everything you need to know about the League Cup. To use Parky's words it's naive to think last night's defeat won't have a negative effect on some of those players, but as supporters most of us will have forgotten about last night if we win on Friday.
Derby at the Valley in about 94/95 we went 3-0 up and got beat 4-3 - I think their winner came in about the last minute
possibly a midweek game?
