Swearing in the presence of kids at football - My 3 kids have been coming to football since they were about 4-5 years old.
My take on it is this, if they hear a swear word at the ground and they dont understand it, then it won't mean anything to them, if they hear a swear word at the ground and they know its a swear word, then they have heard it elsewhere, what do you think kids do when they get together and there is no adults around, they give it large, get over it please.
Although I did draw the line at my eldest when he was about 6-7 standing on the seat giving it the 'Hassellbaink, wank, wank, wank' song complete with the sign when JFH played for Chelsea. I asked him if he knew what it meant and he said 'no', I told him it was very rude and politely requested that he did not do it again, the geezer behind me was cracking up. He is 17 next birthday, he swears at football, but not when he is at home or out with family. How he speaks when he is with his mates is up to him, but he knows when it is inappropriate.
Oh yer I swear a lot more at football now my kids are older. Its football, get over it! Again!
I know the referee Grant Hegley, he is a really decent bloke. In fact, I can tell you that we have had a few decisions go in our favour when he has officiated at the Valley in the past. I'm sure he will not have lost any sleep over people swearing at his badge. Personally, I do not like referees much but without them there is no game to play.

Nice bloke I'm sure. Just an utterly, utterly useless referee.

He might be a decent bloke - but he was two bob on Saturday. I saw one decent bit of refereeing - when he let play continue after Reid committed a fool then, 30 seconds later when he (rightly) gave a free kick against Jackson, he called Reid over and (presumably) told him he was lucky to escape a booking for the earlier challenge. Apart from that, he got numerous decisions wrong, the sending-off was a ridiculous joke and added an extra minute on in injury time for no reason (no injuries, all subs had already been made). If he added the extra minute for time-wasting by Elliott, why didn't he add it on originally and give six mins instead of five? Obviously not up there with Danson's (ahem) 'best performances', but he was shite, end of.
All those who are outraged at the specific jibe I assume are also horrified when people say it of Wenger? And I also assume these same people never join in the Oh South London chant as that is pretty offensive to women. Maybe you would all like the club to distribute a list of words which are or are not acceptable?
Or maybe they could designate an area specifically for children? Oh wait
And finally those who do take their children to the NU please don't try and pretend this is because you child "really likes the atmosphere up there". You buy the tickets and you sit there because you want to.

The booking of the Bournemouth player for punching the ball back at the end of the game was a bit harsh as well IMO.

That booking was ridiculous! He just threw the ball back for the free kick to be taken. Awful refereeing

Yep - spot on. Stupid decision - the bloke was clearly throwing it back to us in an effort to get on with the game. In fact, in hindsight - he did get one other thing right - the booking for Arter - which was a stupid, petulant and potentially dangerous tackle.
There were a couple of decisions that went our way when they shouldn't have done which adds to the fact that the reffing was terrible.
The bloke throwing the ball back clearly did so in anger but it landed exactly where we kicked from therefore not throwing it away. And why would you throw the ball away and waste time when you're one down, refs don't like to use common sense.
I try to avoid swearing myself, but have to admit that sometimes the atmosphere gets the better of me.
With regards to the ref on Sat (vs AFC Bournemouth 7/8/10, for when this thread is years old), if you asked both sets of fans after the match they would have agreed he was shocking. I heard chants against him from both sets of fans at different points in the game.

There has been some rubbish written on the thread but yours wins first prize. Whenever we sit in the east or west my son always says " dad I want to sit up there" pointing to the north stand . So to make such an inaccurate sweeping statement saying it's me who wants to sit there is not only wrong but just lazy thinking.

But don't you see the problem here? Your child wants to sit up in the NU (where all the atmosphere is). You made the decision to take your boy up there - do you find it difficult to pick out the actual words in the chants or did you just expect everyone to start changing them to "Rah Rah you Addicks, tally ho!" because you took your kid up there?

Or, as Parky would say, because they are the cheapest seats in the building and one wouldn't afford it otherwise especially as a season ticket holder.
You can sit in the North West - for cheap seats - and get all the noise from the NU but without too much of the swearing and irritating feckers around you. Apart from the leeds lady not had no trouble up there.
I don't care about the swearing as such it's the peadophile comments that make me angry. Anyway I'm bored of this because quite obviously some people have lower morals than others and parents and non parents think differently.
The End.
And a few words with the Millwall massive all two of em Curb-It.
Had 20 somethings come sit in front of me on Sat. All swiging vody from a bottle. One turns to me" what colour Charlton playing in mate?"---me " you f**kin what !!!!!!!!!!". Other (i kid you not) says " not the same as the Emerites is it" ..............................now of all the naffing places to put a Goonertwat its in front of me !!!! i think they got the message as the growling and nashing of teeth behind them must have been unsettling as they didnt return in second half.
If kids are about i try not to swear------but its football and sometimes you have to vent-------------- the ref on Saturday-----jesus----------------he was a c**t--------and all Millwall twats are in fact C**Ts and need telling as often as possible.

Funnily enough we had exactly that conversation on Saturday. NW Upper is near enough the North Stand for the atmosphere, it's a decent view, it's cheap and it's far enough away from the North Stand to avoid the likes of the J Block idiots.
Swearing is part of the game, but can we plaease stop the stupid Adams Family song. It seemed a whole lot louder on Saturday, and what have The Bournemouth fans ever done to us that required it to be sung to them. Millwall and Palace maybe but not every other club.
Am I the only one to spot the irony of it being sung by some?

Absolutley agree 100%. Can't believe so many people still join in with it. Makes me cringe. Bloody embarrasing.

Please dont start comparing football to rugby......you'll get told where to go soon enough.
There is swearing at Football matches, there has always been swearing at football matches.
If you don't like swearing at Football matches move to another part of the ground where it is less prounounced.
Failing that go & watch another sport.

Can we have less of the blasphemy on here please? FFS ;-)

Autoerotic prestidigitator.
