[cite]Posted By: Kap10[/cite]Only glad he is not coming back because the debate after every match about him would go on forever, at least without him we can concentrate on the overall team and not one player.
It's a good job then, that Charlton Life was not around when Carl Winston Leaburn was playing. The site would have melted in days! ;-)
[cite]Posted By: Danny Addick[/cite]He'll do really well there.
I disagree, as much as i rate him colchester are a long ball side which doesnt really work with Mooney up front unless he's playing of Platt and he gets all the knock downs. Would have like to see him come back and reckon he would do well as long as we didn't go route one, those were the only times he looked ineffective because we wasn't playing it to his feet or into space
Platt has signed for Coventry, so I guess they might not play that way now. New manager too.

Hahahaha: shit I can still hear the guy behind me (at Selhurst) yelling: LEABURN YOU LANKY STREAK OF PISS.

Oh right my mistake lol, Whose Aidy Boothroyd gone to? dont really keep tabs on other sides in this league. In that case and they start playing football on the deck think mooney could get 15 goals + (
There are other strikers out there and we'll hopefully get someone a bit better. Even if they're just more consistent, you didn't always know what sort of performance you'd get from Mooney. Will score against us of course.
[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]Not a great player in fact pony at times , just like us but I'd take mooney all day long over kakpo
I keep seeing people saying that, but with some decent crosses Akpo will get a few goals. He always worries defenders, something Mooney can't do. How many will Akpo have to score before people are happy with him in the team?
Akpo is a direct powerful taget man and for that reason he will split the fans,
I think that he is a poor one but i do believe that his pace and power will worry the defences in this division.
I also think unfairly that both mooney and Akpo have been derised by our fans even though they were not here for a full season, they did not complete a pre season with us and were both coming back from injury..
who knows what they can do with a healthy body and mind and a real burst of fitness, both have shown enough promise in the past to be signed by championship clubs
it seems parkinson is getting together a team of hardened gritty players this season and mooney not really fitting that type, doubt he will shine at colchester but good luck to him, scored a few crackers for us.
Great news, was crap at us,wow his work rate was good, sign me then n pay me all that money to run around n look like a clown,no strength can't score,no good, thank good he's not here.
Colchester are my local team and in the local rag it is all about how they want to be more of a passing team under their new manager and get away from the long ball stuff, so I can see why they have done it.
That said, I still do not reckon that he is any good, even if they system suits him.
The key point is really not whether Mooney was "any good" - and I suspect we still have delusions of grandeur about the quality of striker we can attract/afford - but whether he is better than what we have or what we will bring in.
At the moment we have the injury prone Akpo and Abbott as our sole front men - if we don't bring in other players who are not up to Mooney's standard then I will feel that we have missed out by not getting him in.
If they ditch the long ball I suspect they will struggle to be top half. They picked up many points by battering sides, I don't thing it's that easy to turn that into a nice passing game and still be as successful. I also doubt Mooney will be good enough to make up for the lost goals of their big strong forwards playing hit and rush.
What is this about Colchester being long ball merchants? Did Lambert play it that way? Did Geraint Williams play it that way? Most of the players at Colchester were signed by those two. If they were able to cope with Boothroyd's awful football, and make a very quick transition at that, they'll easily get back to how they played under Lambert. A long ball team? As if the past seven seasons didn't leave a legacy.
Think he'll do quite well there, he'll have one Boothroyd signing in Odeajayi to take the physical battering.
Mooney did alot of running, but never seemed that threatening to me. Scored a good goal against Gillingham, but also had some shockers in front of goal too.
imo, I don't feel it would have been beneficial to have him back.
The amount of sitters I saw him miss home and away amassed that he scored - did quite like his workrate but I much prefer someone who sticks as much n and really does look like scoring with the right c hance.. he missed some that Harry Redknapps missus would have scored...
[cite]Posted By: Bedsaddick[/cite]Don't be silly . every Ex Charlton striker scores against us no matter how pony they are - Its Derek Einstein's law of early release.

"Any striker that is pissed off enough for being released from Charlton Athletic HAS to score on their return to The Valley"
Even works for greedy little bastard like Defoe who milk the club and piss of when they sniff the Money

That Derek Einstein sure was a genius!

of course we'll get 2 back through akpo straight after though :)
