  • [cite]Posted By: O-Randy-Hunt[/cite]Will it be this dutch bloke on saturday. Why havnt we heard nothing about him

probably keeping it secret so other teams don't take and snatch him.

just hope it's not collins john or worse JFH coming out of retirement to squeeze more money out of us.
  • [cite]Posted By: O-Randy-Hunt[/cite]Parky knows something we dont and is gonna surprise us. Will it be this dutch bloke on saturday. Why havnt we heard nothing about him

Because the player only got back fom the World Cup just a couple of weeks ago.........?
  • OK - how about this....our old friend JF Hasselbaink is Dutch(!) and has been training with Woking (where we know we have connections). Now for the good news (I think) - he has a young nephew called Nigel of all things who is a (wait for it) striker for PSV....

how about Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink? he's still looking for a club... don't think we would need to trial him though.

could be Frank Wiafe Danquah - released by newcastle.
  • Had a look on pfa site for dutch strikers out of contract and came up with 3. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Can't see us being able to afford his wages and can't see him dropping down to L1, and as stebo said, can't imagine him having to have a trial...... Next on the list was etienne esajas, listed as LM/FWD. We can rule him out as he's been with us on trial and sent packing....... The 3rd one (which would seem the more likely is Frank waife Danquah. Been released from Newcastle. 19yrs old and never played for the 1st team. Although my heart says J V of H, my head is telling me the latter is more likely. Not a signing that would surprise us but he never said that his surprise signing and the dutchman were one of the same.
  • Hesselink would warrant 'special' for this division and if we were trying to structure deal for him (which I doubt), would explian why we were trying to keep it utter hush - only because you know the likes of Soton, Huddersfield, Sheff Weds etc would try to sneak in with something better for that sort of quality. Can't se it happening, nut Parky has been straight down the line, so if he and RM are lining up one special player, I can't wait to see him play at the Valley.

Tomorrow will be a killer at work. I really can'twait for Saturday - such a different feeling to last season.
  • [cite]Posted By: Stebo[/cite]how about Jim Floyd of Hasselbaink? he's still looking for a club... don't think we would need to trial him though.

    .

Ah, yes ......quality in his day.
  • it could be Nigel Hesselbaink. he had or he is still on trial at Dundee. cant find any info on how it went or it's going
  • As I recall JFH never had trouble finding a club - in the West End.
  • Collins John could be a possibility. Would be a decent signing, know he has struggled since early promise but natural ability and could thrive in L1.

Also is the trialist actually Dutch or just a player who has been playing in the Netherlands? Doubt it would be Veneggor due to wages and the fact he is similar to what we have.

Not Collins John. Been in America for only three months and it's mega money over there. The article suggests that the player is in from a Dutch club.
  • FOR THE LAST TIME...

HES NOT NECESSARILY DUTCH, HE'S COMING TO CHARLTON FROM A DUTCH CLUB
  • Actually it says on the OS "Dutch striker".
  • [cite]Posted By: charlton_hero[/cite]Actually it says on the OS "Dutch striker".

    My mistake
  • http://www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk/index.asp?tm=2&nid=3535&cd=2010

That's the only mention of Nigel Hasselbaink on Dundee Utd's website. Late sub last Saturday, came on 86th minute. Probably not him but doesn't look like they've given him a proper go.
  • Okay here are my views,

We need to think out side the box, who says this guy is ''Free Agent'' maybe his club has allowed him to come over to us on a trial ...

If Parky says speical. he must have played in the dutch top league,

im %100 its not JFH, or CJ neither do i think its NH, for some reason Stef Nijland keeps popping into my head, but i very much dought its him, i think this player is likely to be between 19-28
  • Where did Parky say special player?
  • Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha .............

Its comical reading stuff on here sometimes......just like chinese whispers, womeone mentions something and within a few posts we are signing the prodigal son or the next Micheal Owen !!!!! Pml

Firstly.............when & to whom was the word "special" mentioned, in relation to a striker, especially the one supposed to be on the bench on Saturday ????

I have read the comments made by Parky to the "cleaners" on tuesday and also his press conference today, and nowhere does he say we are about to reveal a "special " striker.

THe OS says that the striker is on trial from a Dutch club and is an "unknown" name to addicks fans - there you can forget about JFH (and son) , Vandor of Hessilink (or whatever he is called) , Stern John, Darius Vassell or whoever else.

I ham been "told" who it is - wont say just now in case i'm not supposed to know.............nut just to say his Wikipeadia entry says he is out of contract after leaving a Dutch club last season...............will be 27 next month & i've never heard of him
  • Ruud ter Heide?

    if it is very intresting
  • [cite]Posted By: charltonaddickedmatt[/cite]Ruud ter Heide?

    Definitely not him

  • Ahh just listned to CAFC player, and parky said a ''Player From Holland'' so he might not be dutch lol
  • Maybe the special player and the player from Holland aren't linked? Maybe he is bringing in 2 attackers/

Pretty sure they aren't linked. The player from Holland surely another option, someone to look at. Parky already has targets, the trialists are really just alternatives.

Think someone did say he confirmed at the seat cleaning he wanted a goalkeeper, a winger and 2 strikers. He's not going to want to go into the season with only 3 strikers.

That's what I think, It will be a Dutch trialist, someone young and unproven, and an older face looking for a fresh challenge, like James going to Brizzle, or Raul to Schalke........

With regards to the strikers, we will have Sodje starting and Abbott and Tuna on the bench, and play 451. We can accomodate the first week or so without more, but he'll be looking into getting them by tuesday. I believe the trialist dude will play in the CC, as well as Abbott getting a start, just to start gelling the squad and building chemistry
  • When parky was asked who the number 10 shirt was for he said "someone special" apparently - but I suspect that's been taken out of context on here. More that we are yet to sign a recognised striker than us being about to sign Morientes.

I've so far read that the Dutchman is Jhon van Beukering or Orlando Smeekes
  • Didnt Ruud Van Nistelrooy say he supported Charlton :)
  • I've just listened to the interview on iplayer and the trilalist who is possibly on the bench on Saturday is not necesarily the Dutchman, he talks about oneon the bench and then says we're still looking and have just got someone over from Holland.
  • edited August 2010
according to his wiki entry, Orlando Smeekes is on trial with us - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orlando_Smeekes

he has just finished a trial at coventry where he did alright, but obviously coventry aren't short on strikers so they didn't offer him a contract.
  • [cite]Posted By: Nicholas[/cite]Didnt Ruud Van Nistelrooy say he supported Charlton :)
Wasn't that a bad translation and he was actually talking about Bobby Charlton?
  • Nice that Charlton see the Number 10 as 'traditionally notable' these days, back in 2004 when it was vacated following Jensen's departure they gave it to Lisbie....

I still say they should've given it to Tuna but maybe I'm fishing here.
