the charlton centre back factor...you decide.

Fourtune or Dailly or Sodje...

You can offer only one a contract who do you chose? Fortune is younger and quicker, dailly has bags of experience and a calming solid game, sodge is strong with a great leap and get the odd goal is a local lad and loves us (apparently) We have the doc and lera and mambo so maybe one or 2 of these tops. Who do you sign?

  • Fortune but I would swap a Dailly for a Llera.

  • Fortune and Dailly, Mambo out on Loan
  • Ideal partnership would be fortune and Daily but Sodje is good cover for both and will always pop up with a few goals. Prone to losing his head every now and then though.
  • We had 3 centre backs last year. So I can't see us having 4 this year.

Though if we managed to have Doc, Llera, Fortune and Dailly we'd probably have the strongest selection of centre backs in the league.

  • We had 3 centre back last year and it wasn't enough. We need 4 so I'd let Llera go and keep Dailly, Doc, Sodje and sign Fortune.
  • Dailly, hasnt Sodje signed for a greek side?

  • If we do re-sign Fortune then we simply have to get Young, Fish and Costa back.
  • Hope we get to keep Dailly and Fortune but I'd probably chose Fortune if I had to. (Had we not signed Doherty, my answer may have been different.)
  • I would add that I wouldn't mind seeing Fortune, Dailly and Doherty with Jackson and Solly/RB bombing up the wings.
  • From a long term persepctive it has to be Fortune, but anyone who thinks he is better than Dailly really needs to go back to Football School.

I would certainly look into this if i was PP. With very little winger & full back options 3-5-2 (or 5-3-2) might be the way to go.

Without a doubt CD is a better player than JF but CD will be 37 this coming season. JF has pace and is still only 30.

With Doherty signed I think JF gives us more on the pitch. Being greedy I would want them both but where does that leave the budget if we also want Francis and Basey?

Won't be a problem once Semedo is sold (oh, I shouldn't have said that....)

    ;o)
  • I want both ,last year Parky said he wanted 3 CB's and an experienced utility player. I always saw Dailly as the latter.

My take on this last year was that we were one short . I think Parky tried to sign Darren Ward also but it didn't happen because Millwall could offer a first team place rather than squad rotation.

Both Dailly and Fortune carry risks . Dailly is 37 in October and there was a spell last year when maybe he could have benefitted from a rest. Fortune has been injury prone over the last two years .

My own view would be both. Also what has happened to the Liam Chilvers rumours ?

Four centre backs would be great but I can't see it. Semedo, Basey (if he stays), Youga (if he gets fit and stays) and several young players can cover there. Wouldn't it just take up wages on an extra player we won't need very often which could be better spent on a striker or winger?

I'm sure we'll sign a winger or two. Parky has always played with a back four and I can't see that changing. It's a lot of work for the wide players, probably one of the main reasons not many sides play 3-5-2 or similar any more.

dailly - purely because even at 37 he's more likely to last the full season than fortune
