[cite]Posted By: MrOneLung[/cite]Looks like he is quite prepared to put his foot in.
Or he could just be a bad tackler.

    09/10 14Y 1R
    08/09 10Y 0R
    07/08 11Y 2R

Semedo's disciplinary record probably isn't much better than that though, and I don't think that many would regard him as a 'bad tackler'. However, having 2 guys in midfield with that many yellow cards could be a problem.

Nothing to indicate McCormack is a bad tackler.
He just always rips his shirt off every time he scores - and gets booked.

    Like McLeod.
  • I know nothing about him but like the look of this signing from what I have heard - tough, no nonsence central midfielder. It would seem if we can get his head right he could be a decent player for us. May not work in the middle with Semedo if we go 4-4-2 but we have the option of 4-5-1 with a more creative player in with them or Semedo is also an excellent right back and came to us as a centre back so could strengthen defence...wouldn't see us conceeding many with Semedo & Docherty at CB, Youga at LB and Solly at RB tbh.
  • Sounds like a good signing to me.
  • Get Trundle in and we're laughing
  • Thoughtful post, Mr Valleyman.

Even though Semedo had a superb end of season run as the holding defensive midfielder, with a different combination of midfielders, it might not be necessary or even in our best interests to play him there.

While Semedo has put in some decent performances at right back in the past, I believe we often forget that he came to us as a very promising centre back - and put in a very solid performance there at Brentford last season.

If Dailly doesn't re-sign, then played alongside an aerially dominant 1st ball CB like Doherty, he may well prove to be a very capable 2nd ball CB. After all, he wouldn't need to change his game too much, just play 20 yards deeper.

That's just how it has been and will continue to be for Parky - he won't sign every player he wants, might be able to sign a midfielder but not a defender. So he'll have to make the best of what he's got, like Bailey on the left first half of the season, 4-5-1 before Akpo and Mooney came in. Basey and Semedo if they stay are at least two players that could play in a few different positions depending on who stays, leaves and signs.
  • Pretty happy about this signing. Absolutely gutted Frazer is gone as I've just found out, he was class for us last year. If only we hadn't let Yassin go... NAHT
  • If we played two holding midfielders then that would allow us to play with more attacking wide players - although its hard to see how you fit Semedo, Racon and McCormack into the same side - unless Semedo drops back to centre-half which is unlikely.

    We still need at least....

    1 x Centre-Half
    1 x Right Back
    1 x Left Midfielder
    3 x Strikers

My bet is that we will end up signing about four of those in the last week before the season starts.
  • We have no right midfielders at the moment, though I think Wagstaff will stay, Sam probably not. Would need an alternative to Wagstaff. Perhaps we'll get a winger that can play either side.

If Sam goes - which he probably will - then Wagstaff will come in on the right, I can't see us bringing in someone above him, a left-midfielder would be a priority.

At the moment we are clearly weak in several areas...

    Eliott

    Solly (?) - Doherty - Llera - Basey/Youga

    Wagstaff (?) - Semedo - Racon - (????)

    Sodje - (????)

Ideally we would bring in Kyle Reid for left-wing and at least two strikers, one of whom I would like to be Mooney but I know others would not agree!!!

If anyone is signed up to CAFC Player wants to see McCormack play, you can sign in on Saints Player with the same user name and password. The full 90 minutes of Southampton v Southend is on there, apparently McCormack had a good game (thanks to the Southampton FM researcher for that)

I asked the Southend FM researcher about McCormack and he had some interesting things to say about him. I said I got the impression he was similar to Bailey, but not quite as good.
In terms of McCormack, you're spot on. Similar type of player to Bailey but not as good. Tough-tackling, energetic, but arguably technically limited. Certainly not as good at putting his foot on the ball as Bailey, and a little bit more headless-chicken than the Ginger One. Hasn't been the same player for us since Bailey left though. Unfortunately it's difficult to know exactly why. It could be that he hasn't quite been the same since his knee cartiledge injury at the start of 08/09. It could be that he has been unhappy here for some time since the financial and non-payment of wages issue started (I don't see him as professional enough to just get his head down and get on with it). Or it could well be that he looked better next to bailey and Bailey carried him. They seemed to compliment each other well and scored 9 goals each from central midfield in 07/08.

He and Bailey were partners in crime, very good mates. Whether they still are or not I'm not sure. But the little incident against Tranmere was blown way out of proportion:

He could be a good signing. When he joined us in 06/07, he was excellent for us in the Championship and almost single-handedly rejuvenated our flagging season when he joined in January. He hasn't been the same player since Bailey left/he got injured, but that could be a coincidence and it could be that he just needs a change of scene. Watch out for that fiery Irish temper and enjoyment of night life though - he was seen in Southend's main night club many a time on Saturday nights after matches!

He was our 2nd-highest earner and I found out a few weeks ago that his weekly wages were £2,800. I'd be surprised if he hasn't been given equal terms at your place, especially since no transfer fee was involved.
  • Just been looking for an Alan McCormack goal on You Tube and found this amongst Southend's top 10 goals for 07/08.
It's a nice clean Bailey-esque volley from just outside the box.

The ginger one also features twice in their top 10, both against Millwall (nice one Bails) - including a terrific volley for goal of the season.

Here's the link: Alan Mccormack goal
  • is he injured?
  • Calf injury I think. Although with his last performance vs Notts County and Racon's improvement he won't be starting at the moment.

Out for around 10 games said Parky.

Stavrinou to stay as cover rather than go out on loan.
