Signing McCormack surely doesn't automatically mean Jose and Racon are off - we started last season with 5 senior centre midfielders (Bailey, Racon, Jose, Jonjo and Spring). However tight things get we'll need at least 3 midfielders + Stavrinou as a youngster on the books at the start of the season.
Reality is all our players are available for purchase at a fair price and Racon and Jose are as attractive as any of our players to potential purchasers, but just cos we've signed a midfielder it doesn't automatically mean one is off.
not a bad signing imo. Gonna be shite football down the valley next season and we need a few kick bollock and bite players. Would rather this fella playing next to Semedo than Racon anyday.
Sorry but IMO this is crap just like the whole bloody day. What chance have we got now of mixing it with the better sides in League 1 let alone challenging for promotion. If we had signed him from the reserves of a decent championship team then fair enough but he has just been relegated to League 2 with Southend and they didnt even want to keep him.

Yes they did want to keep him, its just that League 2 wage restrictions meant he had to leave or take a big pay cut.

Agree with the sentiment. However, I think Southend probably let him go for financial reasons.
My uncle is a Southend ST holder and he says he will do a job for us, very much in the Bailey mode. Bit of a loose cannon and the consensus was he lost his way when his head was turned by Millwall's interest in January.
Midfielder Alan McCormack has become Charlton's second signing of the summer.
The engine-roomer, 26, joins as a free agent after leaving Southend United by mutual consent following four seasons on the Essex coast.

according to wiki he's 29. which one is right?
He's 26, fits in with him starting his career at Preston in 2002, and it's the date on other sites including Southend's OS.

His Wikipedia page claims he is both 26 and 29!
He's a 1984 birthday in the first line of the main article and a 1981 birthday in his 'stats section' on the right hand side.

I quite like Racon so I'll disagree with you on that point, BUT we didn't go up playing football, and we need battlers who will get stuck in at places like Carlisle. He sounds like he'll do that, I just hope he doesn't get many red cards
I dont know what Parky could actually say re this guy in truth " ok chaps i know he is total sh*t and even Southend dont want him. But he can stand up and has a pair of boots. So he seems to fit in with CAFc at the moment"
somehow i just dont see Parky telling it like it really is.
[cite]Posted By: Danny Addick[/cite]He does like to play a CM at LM remember, so maybe Racon will move wide permanently.
I think that's just down to circumstances, rather than a preference. Bouazza left not long after Parky took over, and he didn't get another left footed left winger in until Kyel Reid over a year later (except Luke Holden).
Racon complained about playing left midfield so I doubt he'll play there.
[cite]Posted By: D_F_T[/cite]Fuck sake, what a poxy signing. Is this supposed to help us get over losing Richardson?
We're the fucking joke!
There will probably be more signings like this, players that we don't know much about. Judge them on the pitch, not how big a name they are. He might turn out to be as good a signing as Doherty.
Who knew much about Kyel Reid this time last year? Not many but everyone would have him back given the chance.

Seems a decent signing but overshadowed in my mind by fraser going. Thats unfair to him but I fear the two events will be linked.
What's wrong with that? If your company was screwed financially and missing your wages I imagine you wouldn't be quiet about it!

I'll reserve judgement on this one.
But which school?
Mark Kinsella or Darren Pitcher?

Hopefully your view of old school is the same as mine, and not like some of our most recent 'stars'.
Confirmed on there, he wanted to leave and Southend happily let him due to his wages.

wiki got it wrong!!! next you'll be telling me that Paul McCartney isn't trying to takeover the club.
