Randolph signs for Motherwell

  • Even if they offered me £50k a week I wouldn't want to live in Motherwell, the place is an absolute tip.

At £50k a week I could put up with it...... and have you seen Woolwich and Charlton lately!, besides which they have a nice steelworks!.......
Christ for £50k a week I would consider living in Thamesmead......

Now can we lay off Parky.

The bloke has a impossiable job

Spot on, he has, and has had since the day he took over, but these facts will not alter some peoples opinions... He's to blame and always will be.... I would suspect all our recent managers have had very little say in who stays or goes, but again that won't be taken into account, when the time comes to slaughter someone for the lack of success..
  • Well, we have Robbie Elliot, and that seems to have been forgotten in all the hysteria. I seem to remember him doing a bang-up job until he was injured. Also, he's a fan. Big plus.

At any rate, Randolph is off the wage bill and I'd like to see a youngster on the bench no matter how potentially crap he may be, only looking for an emergency loan keeper should the situation arise.
  • Think that it all boils down to money. What Elliot earns and what Randolph was earning are poles apart this would suggest .Remember Randolph signed adeal with Charlton when he was a teenager until May 2009 if the player profiles are correct as cover for Scott Carson.Since then we have had Nicky Weaver as first choice and then Rob Elliot who became Charltons first choice when Randolph was out on loan at Bury.It would appear we could not match the wages together so out went Randolph.Brave words by Parky we will bring in another keeper just as good.We can only wait and see if this is true.

I can not remember Randolph signing a new contract so i can only say that the player profiles should have read 2010.

The former steelworks and strip mill have now been cleared, and the site is in the process of becoming a new town of Ravenscraig.

For £50 grand a week you could probably rent the site Leroy...... nothing like burning ' clinka' in the morning........
as the man once said 'I liked the steel so much I bought the town, or words similar'.......

Anyway if you are gonna be picky..... on a clear day, you can see the old site at Dagenham which had it's own steelworks from Thamesmead I am told..... and we can all share that wonderful thought when we visit Dagenham and Redbridge next season .... my cup runneath over

It's been obvious to many that for a long time Randolph is a better keeper than Robbie. Had our management done more to keep Darren a year or so ago I doubt he would have felt as unwanted as he obviously did. Actually I think it's scandalous that after putting all that money into developing a keeper who we got ten games out of he has gone for nothing. IMHO it's another example if the ineptitude that has plagued Charlton for several years. We had a gem in Randy. We will live to regret this one. Well done PP and coaching staff.
  • Even worse the Rumour is that Christian Daily is off to Kilmarnock.

Probably has only happened this way because we rated Randolph higher in the first place. In 08/98 he went to Hereford on loan, while Elliot was back up.

Parky then took over, Elliot was next in line after Weaver and took his chance. Had Elliot been on loan and Randolph here, he'd have played over Weaver, and probably done well himself.

Aaaaaaaand still probably gone because of the nature of his contract. It's a moot point, as is moaning over the fact that we lost Randolph. As of yet, we've kept Elliot who did earn the no. 1 shirt.
  • All I know is that we had two keepers on the books and the best one has gone for nothing. I see nothing to celebrate in the fact that the other has not left yet !
  • Okay then everyone, answer this - if Elliot had not been injured and retained his place, where would we have finished in the table?

    4th.
  • bollocks...
  • I have a very good source who has spoken to Randolph and basically I was told Randolph left after his constant frustration that parkinson would not give him the no 1 jersey for the upcoming season, the amount of time he was at the club and the lack of opportunity he had been given just added up to him wanting to walk away. You think we had ikeme come in when Randolph should of played.

I wish him all the best and he will be a massive lose to a already fragile defence.
  • Trying not to get too stressed this summer but I think a few people need to wash the brown stuff out of their eyes, we are a ruddersless leaderless shambles of a club at present & I fear things are only going to get worse. Would have loved to see the 'Contract Offer' we made to Randolph, he probably laughed out loud when he read it.
  • IMO the better goalkeeper has left the club.
[cite]Posted By: PL54[/cite]When do we get this Bailey money then ?
Sad times when we can't compete financially with Motherwell.
From reading the OS, the issue (with him rejecting the contract) appears to be that he wasn't guaranteed the No.1 spot (which any decent keeper would look to aim for at a club). There's nothing to suggest that Charlton were unable to compete with Motherwell (financially).

It probably didn't help that we had two keepers at the club who seem to be on a similar level of ability too(and we all argue over who's better, although I think Randolph was the more assured keeper).
  • I suppose in the end, in our position, we were never likely to keep two decent young goalkeepers who are both now experienced enough to play regularly. Even if we did, one would have probably wanted to go in January.

Can understand why Parky couldn't promise either would be first choice. Can't really say to Elliot that Randolph will be starting the first game of the season, no matter what they both do in pre-season.
  • Balls but good luck to Randy hope it all works out for him there and I can't really blame him if he's been guaranteed first team. Its gotta be incredibly frustrating to be a keeper playing the waiting game for your opportunity to make the shirt your own. I wish we had handled the situation better but what ifs doesn't change anything.

  • Is there a good five a side league that we can enter next season?
This is getting beyond a joke, when are people going to wake up and smell the coffee.
When Parky took charge we were not even in the relegation zone with half a season remaining.
Here we find ourselves in a division lower with most of our best players having departed, and as it stands, unable to put out a team or the first fixture.
At the start of last season, after we won the first 5/6 games, I said that we can't rely on Burton goals, as he may get injured and we need to find an alternative to 451 because eventually it will stop working. Instead Parky sent all his other strikers out on loan whilst Burton got injured and we stopped scoring/winning. This persisted for the middle third of the season until he finally saw the light and we started trying to play some football again.
Randolf is leaving because Parky never gave him a fair go before he was forced into doing so by Elliots injury, and was prepared to let him go before this without even giving him a chance. If Christian Dailly also moves on despite having been voted POTY and publicly stating his affection for the club, that's a huge vote of no confidence in the manager. Here's a man who lives locally, coming to the end of his career who would rather commute to Scotland to play than finish his playing days with us. IMO this is not purely down to money.
  • Craig Brown has said Randolph will be fighting for the #1 slot with their other goalkeeper they've signed.
  • [cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]Craig Brown has said Randolph will be fighting for the #1 slot with their other goalkeeper they've signed.

    And therein lies the rub.

No manager can "guarantee" anyone a first team shirt - they have to be earned not granted.

If Randolph wanted guarantees over his future then that's his choice - but not the right choice for CAFC.

Imagine if any of us went to our boss and demanded to be next in line for promotion - he would tell you that you had to earn it not demand it.

IMHO Randolph could really regret his choice here.

Even though it was OK for Parky to "guarantee" to Wolves that Ikeme would be in goal when he came to us on loan. Or did he come to us to warm the bench?
  • shock horror the better of the two keepers goes .... oh how lucky we are that robbie has stayed ....
  • If you believe the OS, Randy demanded the no. 1 jersey and Parky wouldn't give it to him... Yet he's gone all the way to Motherwell, where he is still not guaranteed to be first choice. Doesn't quite stack up - I assume this is also due to the way he's been treated over the last few years and particularly last season.

I really hope the Daily rumour is proved false btw.

So Randolf is prepared to fight for the number one jersey at Motherwell, but is not prepared to do so for us, despite Elliot supposedly being his best mate. Doesn't that suggest that there were other issues at play here? Perhaps money, perhaps the manager!!!
Oh course no manager can guarantee any player a first team place, I'm sure every player with an ounce of sense understands that.
  • Randy has a 3 year contract, I doubt we could match that, Randy has the opportunity to get European experience, the closest we are likely to get to that is Brighton away. if I was him I would have moved and yes his early season treatment last season probably contributed, as did the bringing in of Ikeme which is said to be the kick up the arse he needed to improve his attitude and be the foundation of his latter season performances.

As someone else has stated if we lose Dailly then that is more worrying.
