  • I had to wear a charlton top out once... on my hen do. Thanks to sausage the full kit.
  • [cite]Posted By: leftbehind[/cite]Some schools did ban kids from England shirts last world cup but allowed and other shirts to be worn as the England one may offened

That is the bit I suspected to be rubbish, and so it's proved. Not once in any of the articles do they say that the english shirt/flag/pin is banned whilst a foreign shirt/flag/pin is not.

Plus, most of them are clearly 90 percent guff. Take this quote from the Mail:

'But the Church of England is considering rejecting England's patron saint St George on the grounds that his image is too warlike and may offend Muslims.'

No quotes or facts to back that up, and I see the article was written in 2006. Strangely enough, I haven't noticed the Church of England ever actually rejecting St George in the last 4 years
  • They should ban anyone wearing black nylon socks with sandals and/or Bermuda shorts.

Also, Hawaiian shirts on anyone over 40.
  • now im not that strong on the religon thingy but aint it the RC church that goes for all the saints and stuff ? so why would the Church of England be intrested in a Saint ? called George or any other ??
  • C of E high church is all smells and bells and saints.

Black cabs should be banned in Canterbury as it's 63 miles away from London.
  • 2 people pulled in Erith asked to take flags of cars as it may offend

    Not true

ALL flags are banned, not just the England flag, and it wasn't this year as that has long been the rule.

  • That's nuffink, a bloke went into a pub and asked for a pint and the barman said he couldn't serve him because he was speaking English and people would find it offensive, because the labour party passed a law before they got thrown here. In the end he had to google how to ask for a pint in hurdu on his iPhone. I heard about this other bloke who didn't have an iPhone and the barman had to get the police on him and he got taken out into the street and shot in the face. I've set up a facebook group protesting about this shite that clearly never happened.

I heard that too. Happened to a mate of mine. Well not an actual mate, someone I met said it had happened to someone so almost.

Deserves everything he gets. The EU banned drinking in pints years ago. You've got to ask for a 1/2 litre now, otherwise you get evicted from your house & it's given to immigrants. FACT.

I wont believe any of the above until I read it on a bona fide football based internet forum.
I have already checked your views on cafc.co.uk and this story doesnt even register.

Actually it is true. It may be the case that all flags are banned (or may not) But which flag is most likely to be displayed in Canterbury England, in the run up to the world cup, in which England will participate?
Have the council banned them previously? Of course! They can't wait to ban anything English.
How likely is it that (say) Glasgow council would ban the Saltire from Scottish cabs, in the unlikely event Scotland qualified for a major football tournament?
It's thinly disguised anti Englishness...........as ever!

  • you said "Have the council banned them previously? Of course! They can't wait to ban anything English."

The rule wasn't introduced for this World Cup. It's a standing rule. It applies during world cups and before and after world cups and is only about taxis. Is it a good rule? Don't know and don't care. It's for taxis only

Meanwhile far from "anything English" being banned Canterbury will be festooned with England flags in pubs, shops, cars etc because no one from the council has banned them, and people in Canterbury will be able to walk down the street wearing an England shirt because no one has banned them either.

But I hear the Council (typical loony left Tory council that it is) have told the Cathedral to stop calling itself a Church of England building as that might offend any passing Episcopalians : - )

Your knowledge of what will happen in Canterbury is astounding, how do you do it ?
May i just remind you i posted only on the 'flags on taxi's issue' The other issues were raised by other posters.
You seem to have forgotten to comment on the Scottish part of my post.
Do you honestly believe any other nationality or indeed religous group, would be told to remove the flags from their taxi's?
  • This is an extract from an article regarding the Canterbury issue:

Larissa Laing, from the council, said: "We accept that many taxi drivers want to be patriotic and we have been fully supportive of them wearing England shirts.

"However, it is a public service vehicle and as such there are very strict rules and what can and cannot be displayed on a taxi and sadly an England flag, or any flag, cannot be displayed."

The rules ban any signs, letters, motifs, emblems, or marks from taxis.

1 - Very unlikely that Glasgow would ban the Scottish saltire from cabs if they qualified for the world cup. Also very unlikely that Glasgow would ban the flag of any other country from Scottish cabs. Perhaps that's because, when the Scots fans follow their team abroad in the pubs of their own country, their reputation is generally one of good-natured drunkenness, followed by a sad, mournful pseudo-celebration when they invariably exit at the end of the group stages - rather than a bunch of pissed-up morons chucking chairs through windows, sniffing coke in the bogs and having mass running brawls in the streets when they get knocked out in the quarters though - rather than because their local council isn't some loony-left, rice cakes and nettle tea, no mention of the word blackboard, socialist worker party morning star reading noghtmare.

2 - I'd say that, since the law in Canterbury is non-discriminatory regarding the national flag in concern, it's a pretty safe bet that they WOULD be told to remove their flags, don't you? Or are you suggesting that the genteel city of Canterbury would deliberately court controversy by letting a Turkis, Nigerian, Spanish or Italian cab driver flaunt the rules, whilst enforcing them for English cab drivers?

Some people need to get a f***ing grip. The rumours have been proven - PROVEN - to be absolute bollocks, yet people still want to try to convince themselves there is some sort of liberal agenda at work. Grow up FFS.
  • Leroy. Let me assure you the "pissed up morons" etc. that you refer to, depress me as much as you and any decent person. But at least you agree the Scots wouldn't ban their own flag.
Your second point. Well, yes! At least prior to this subject being aired on the BBC, it would have been yes.
I don't think it could be called a "liberal agenda" I think repressive is closer. The truth is 'authority' in England is scared of allowing the celebration of England for misguided fear of offending.
I don't quite understand your "grow up" comment. Was it an insult? I don't need to grow up i've done that for over half a century. Perhaps i should throw an insult at you? But i won't.
  • Bloke up here's just been told to take down his England street bunting or the council will take it down and charge him over a 100 quid...
  • The problem is not that these stories are bollocks. Newspapers (dubious comment alert) don't just make things up, these things all have some basis, but most of them are isolated events where one individual who represents nobody, that means no race or religion, makes a bad decision and the press blow it into massive proportions such as this and the copious other circumstances people have mentioned on this page.

The majority of people in this country are just as patriotic as we are, no matter what colour their skin or what place of worship the frequent. What we need to do is step back and look at the bigger picture, are people banning shirts, or did one copper mention it to just be wary of people wearing football shirt for whatever reason he, and he alone had. Was one flag asked taken down, was one set of street bunting taken down. The majority of these cases do not represent the trend across the country, but papers don't sell by reporting that 'everythings just great thanks'.
  • 'Grow up' is aimed at everyone who thinks that there is any seed of truth in all this Daily Mail-esque bollocks. You need to have the intelligence of a cruet set to give any of it one iota of credence.
  • Don't lump me in with facebook groups thanks Rothko. You may not like my opinions, but don't accuse me of being something i'm not.
