Millwall went into terminal decline following their relegation in 1996, I think it was. At the same time we, Charlton, were embarking on 10 years of relative success, mostly in the Premiership. I believe Millwall will now have their place in the sun for a while, and let's be honest, they deserve it on their form since Jackett took over team affairs. My next door neighbour is a Millwall fan and he's one of the nicest people I know. If they get promoted, good luck to them. I hope they stay there so we can play them the season after next. Sure there's been some unsavoury stuff over the years, but most of it, in my experience, has been pretty tame compared with some of the nonsense Charlton fans have put up with during the last 20 years or so. Birmingham and Chelsea spring to mind. Make no mistake, this season saw the tide turn, once again in Charlton's favour. Roll on August!
[cite]Posted By: D_F_T[/cite]In reply to Groucho, yes bigger crowds do mean a bigger club.
Charlton are a bigger club than Millwall, always have been.
History doesn't lie.
More than just bigger crowds - honours won, standing in the game, international players supplied, etc that all counts in my view to the stature of a club.
& without a doubt you're bigger than us.
Which makes it even funnier that you boast about being better than us so often!
Which 99% of the time we are!
You missed my point. You are bigger than us. You always will be unless we go on a run to the premiership and stay up there for a decade and you languish in this league.
What I find very amusing is despite you being the bigger club, you knowing it, and us knowing it, you lot still feel you have to keep trying to point it out. I think it's more to convince yourselves rather than getting one over on us.
Save your point scoring for palace fans who are the team that are more likely to argue with you as they're more on your level.
A bit of debate. A bit of banter. It's all good natured. I'm sure no one here is overly offended by our presence. If they are, then they need a word with themselves.

need to give a few of your boys some stick so i think i will be supporting swindon next saturday.
[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]congratulation to millwall for finishing above us for the first time in 15 seasons
and you'll be glad to know groucho that you will be in a league above us next season for the first time in 35 years now that is something for you to be proud of ...
edited which will be the 6th season in the 82 years of our co existance in the league that you have been above us , so fair play to the players and management
Thats one way to look at it and a nice try.
But it ignores what happened in the 32 seasons we have been in the same division. 22 times Millwall finished above Charlton, an aggregate 108 places above Charlton.
In these 64 games 31 Millwall Wins, 22 Draws and 11 Charlton wins. Goals Millwall 108 Charlton 62.
You don't seem to like playing us much and with that record, I don't blame you!
[cite]Posted By: D_F_T[/cite]Just what is it you want here then Sparrow and Groucho, why do you spend so much time on here?

As you say it's bloody wierd, it's a Charlton site for Charlton fans, bugger off to your own site.

Smart move leaving out your 1st 16 years!
But then again, neither of us is really bothered about the other when not in the same division!
[cite]Posted By: FreeThinker[/cite]Smart move leaving out your 1st 16 years!

i don't know what dog & duck pub league we or you were in at the beginning of the last century when our clubs were formed before we joined the football league but your greatest run of finishing above us was our first 8 seasons of league football... we have spent 25 consecutive seasons above you and more recently 14 consecutive seasons above you ...so i can understand how exciting it must be for a football minnow to be above us at this current moment in time...
i may be different to others but i have to admit during our many successful years in the higher echelons of football i did enjoy looking at the many pitiful seasons of nothing football your team had in the lower reaches(where we're currently at and would be considered bad times for our club yet good times for yours)
and i'm sure if you ever manage to play 7 consecutive years of top flight football(highly unlikely considering you've mustered 2 in your pathetic history) while your nearest neighbours are flaffing around in the lower leagues you would be more than happy to have a little chuckle
and admittedly i was jealous of your cup final appearance and one european away tie but your couple of days in the sunshine will never compare to the years of pride at seeing england internationals appearing for your club and plenty of other top top class players appearing in your shirt whilst having the pleasure of mixing it with the footballing giants
it was great to have the glory years, honestly you should try them cos the taste we're getting of what you've been thru isn't nice , it makes me bitter and must be the reason so many millwall fans i know have started making contact about football for the first time in many a year !

did i mention we've won the FA Cup
Oh dear, almost as bad as the Huddersfield fan I had a drink with pointing out the Three Stars on their badge when building a case for Huddersfield being able to win the 2nd leg! Have you guys won any stars? Or is it all bit being at the Party but never getting a dance!
Anyway to cheer you up, we ain't yet above you for next season. We could lose the playoff. Of course if Palarse go bust (Simon Jordan seems unhappy with 1p in the £1!) the FA may promote another team from League One. Who finished Third ?
Then again if we won the playoffs and the mob from down Croydon way are wound up, they would promote the fourth place team!
[cite]Posted By: Goonerhater[/cite]Dont take this the wrong way Groucho or Sparrow but why dont you f**k off.
to put it another way f++K off.
so to make that really clear f&&k right off.
PS sorry AFKA re the swearing i promise not to say Millwall again the c**nts.
GH i lol'd but on a serious note i dont mind other fans on here, well majority of them. its all a bit of banter, its only the ones giving it the big un and being knobs you dont want on here but you cant really choose or make them go away just put up with it.
[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]you are clearly more easily pleased, sloshing around the lower leagues
When you're a little team whose natural level is the 2nd & 3rd divisions then you have to be reasonably happy where we are and enjoy the good days when they come along.
Most of us don't aspire to be a stable premier league club, to be honest I couldn't think of anything worse. Just 2 years up there again would do me and I'd be happy.
To be honest though it ain't been a bad 26 years supporting Millwall. 2nd division champions, 10th in the top flight, an appearance at the old Wembley, play off heartbreak at Wigan, a brilliant season winning the 3rd division, a play off finish and more heartbreak to Brum, an FA Cup Final in Cardiff, a UEFA Cup tie (what a trip that was), relegations, beating the vermin 4-1, taking the vermin to ET this season, knocking Leeds out on their own patch, play-off final last year with one of the best goals at Wembley and now another play off win and Wembley appearance beckoning. I've left loads out as well.
But it's more than the success and failures. It's travelling home & away, nationally & abroad, with mates and other like minded lads, all having a laugh, weekends away, boozing, women, mind altering experiences, laughter, surreal sights and sounds, jokes and scrapes.
Whether it's in the 4th division or the 1st, it's all a good craic and you always have a good time with the friends you've made and the people you mix with.
What are you nolly, 13 years old or something? Grow up, prat.
My point is that OohAhh is like a big man with Napoleon Syndrome. It doesnt make sense. We know you're bigger. You know you're bigger. Why the constant need to feel you have to prove it? No one's arguing.
