  • Wellie - We have no idea what's going to happen with crowd size next year. We MIGHT go up, and that MIGHT put a few thousand on the gates (...as it would with any club). Just like some Charlton 'fans' MIGHT get the ar$ehole with watching underachievement and spineless performance after spineless performance, and that MIGHT take a few thousand off of the gate (...as it would with any club).

I still dont get the obsession with size. Would you consider yourselves bigger than the likes of Fulham, Bolton, Burnley, Hull, Cardiff, Blackpool, etc? Honest question.....thats not me trying to get a rise.
  • [cite]Posted By: Chris_from_Sidcup[/cite]The law of averages says they'll surely get it right this time.

    Pah!
  • Whether you love or loathe 'em. They have won their place in the play-off final. I watched last nights match and Huddersfield were awful.
Personally i have a recently found dislike of Swindon Town FC. But i hope they beat Millwall and then go on to have an embarrasing time in the Championship, finishing bottom.
    Vidictive ? 'spose it is.
  • Well good luck to em they did the business home and away dont want them to go up as easy game to go to ...work with couple of thier fans and next door neigbour one and they all been decent about it no gloating just good banter
im sure if other way round a few our ours would have given it large what comes around goes around

Well the first 5 are all in a higher division and get bigger crowds than us so no i wouldn't consider us bigger than them. Blackpool yes probably.
  • I haven' t metioned Charltons size once in my posts, I just hope your huge following can finally help you win a final.
  • Hope they get stuffed at Wembley but it's fair do's to Groucho and the spanners...

They got there, we didn't, hard luck, fcuk it...

All this vitriolicness makes some of us look exceedingly bitter...
  • Whether we have such a large proportion of people coming out of the woodwork or not, who cares? This thread has had me in creases. The amount of jibes and stereotypical insults that are being trotted out are hilarious, made me chuckle anyway.

    Keep going please!

Interesting, because on a pound-for-pound basis i'd have said that you were bigger than all of them. If you were still in the Prem, you'd be considered bigger. I probably should've made that clearer. The point i was trying to make (...with five bad examples and one good one) is that bigger isn't always better. A lot of people on here seem to have problems coming to terms with that. We may go up, and yes, we'll still have smaller crowds than you. But we'll be in the Championship, which I think is our proper level.

...and if we screw it up, we screw it up. 6 points from our beloved neighbours next season! (Ha ha winky smiley thingy).
  • Bit controversial and I don't know why but I actually want them to win the final. Then next season they can scare a few Nigels for a couple of days! Good luck to them, hope they thrash Swindon. "You only came here to see the Town" my arse.

Red it's called rivalry and has existed as long as football/team sport has.
If you want to call it bitter vitriol then go ahead.............it exists everywhere....if it's something that passes you bye then so be it.........but for many of us sports fans it's a reality.

There's always one.................................know your history my man!!

    ADMIN!! BAN HIM IMMEDIATELY!
  • Don't care who wins any of the play offs. I'll watch all of them, just want to see 3 games where the teams go for it the whole game, ala '98 with us.
  • In reply to Groucho, yes bigger crowds do mean a bigger club.

Charlton are a bigger club than Millwall, always have been.

    History doesn't lie.
  • With Leeds, Pompey and maybe Milwall and Cardiff, there will be some very fiery games next season in the Champ.

More than just bigger crowds - honours won, standing in the game, international players supplied, etc that all counts in my view to the stature of a club.

& without a doubt you're bigger than us.

Which makes it even funnier that you boast about being better than us so often!

Which 99% of the time we are!

Fulham, we were bigger but not anymore
    Bolton, see abouve
Burnley, Probably about the same, for now I expect them to be challenging for promotion next season.
Hull, Probably about the same but they're on a downward slide.
Cardiff, About the same, but would prefer to be where they are.
Blackpool, bigger, but would prefer to be where they are.

Size really does mean nothing. Leeds will now be the biggest team in the championship but aren't going to win the league.
  • The only time i can think if size really makes a difference is when trying to attract players. Say Millwall & Challton go for the same player and offer the same money, would he prefer to play infront of 8000 or 18000?

  • Am I missing something, has Groucho had a sex change?
  • Blimey, all this vitriol. I only started the thread because I was bored and fancied spouting some purile crap.

Anyroad, good luck to Swindon and the Spanners in the final, lets hope we have a summer of glorious football ahead of us....
  • Do you know what, I couldnt really care less who goes up out of them and Swindon - really do very indifferent about it at the moment. Especially when our own club is in such a perilous state.

If a team are in a higher division, (& also able to offer better money), then I think it's irrespective whether a club gets 8k or 18k crowds. A players ambition will always be about aiming as high as they can go, & use some clubs as stepping stones.

For example, let's say that whoever gets promoted out of Swindon & Millwall make a bid for Nicky Bailey(Probably not the best choice of player, as he is known for moving on rapidly, but I'm sure you get the idea).

Now, even if we were in a financially secure enough position to keep him, he would most likely leave us, as he will naturally want to play in a higher league, even if we were getting twice the crowds than his new team.
I'm sure he had the chances to leave us last summer, but a hefty pay rise & the captaincy secured that. That will surely change now. & would've, now we are consigned to another Div' 3 season, & even if we were £££ secure.

Why, did you think she was a fella?
  • "until youve pulled weeds out of terracing on a freezing cold day, you have no right to feel you are part of something."

Steady on Titmarsh. What a bizarre statement to make. I'd assume that you are referring to about 95% of the football supporting population then? I suppose being a season ticket holder for 20 years gives me no right to call myself a Millwall fan?

"You just go and watch football...anyone can do that"

Thats usually all that anyone does, in the event of there being a lack of weeds to pull up.

This is what I love about you lot. For the majority, you're a well-reasoned (...if slightly rose-tinted) bunch. But there's a small minority that talk complete cobblers.

Ideally Swindon will go up but I do agree we really are too concerned with what Millwall are doing...
  • Unlike Spanners of course, where the vast 'majority' talk complete cobblers.
  • Honestly don't care who goes up.

We didn't... that's enough to make it a shite summer for me, Millwall would be the cherry on top but the real hurtful damage is done.
  • stefco - Thats why i used Millwall & Charlton in my example. Same League. For now.
