[cite]Posted By: Elthamaddick[/cite]also loved the slow rendition of 'we are charlton' last night
We've been trying to get that going all season at away games, finally seemed to take off a bit last night. Well, a lot better than Carter's ' Give me Ak-po Sodje' to the tune of 'Give me hope Joanna' !
First things first - Charlton are one of the worst teams I've seen this season and their fans are deluding themselves if they think they are good enough to go up and stay up.
Back to us - Defensively poor with both full backs being caned at every opportunity - JW and Martini had poor games and coupled with Magnus' inability to kick a ball straight and a massive lack of composure made our job a bit harder than it already was. Only plus point was Danny Batth who I thought was excellent last night. I'd dearly love us to sign him permanently as over the last few games he has been our best defender.
Midfield - shocking apart from Henderson when he came on (should have started in place of O'Toole who is massively overrated). Prutton isn't as good as he thinks he is, I lost count of the times he decided to turn inside and try and take on 4 Charlton defenders instead of playing a simple ball to the overlapping Tierney. Izzet was unsurprisingly ineffective as all of the Charlton attacks seemed to come from wide but he still won a few key headers but again distribution was awful. JJOT - didn't really see much of him apart from being skinned twice for the cross leading up to the goal, sad to see him stretchered off straight after that with what seems like a serious injury. Vincent - wow, what a gutless performance from our supposed saviour! I'll say no more as I share the same opinion as others on here.
Attack - Gillespie flatters to deceive. Running around a lot and getting near the ball doesn't make him a good striker. He's been fit for long enough now but seems the injuries have taken their toll and he's not the same player he was for a bit last season. I say get rid at the end of the season - cut our losses and get him off the wage bill. Lisbie I thought had a decent game, you could tell he was well up for it and if it weren't for some crude challenges by the meathead Charlton defenders and that twat Bailey, he could've been through on more than one occasion. Platt - we were playing some good stuff until the goal and no coincidence that when Platt came on we gave up on that and started launching it at his head where he had 3 defenders on him so no surprise who won those contests. Again failed to hit the target. I'm a fan of Platt but he isn't getting any younger or any better so let's get rid of him and Gilly and come up with a combination of strikers that works.
Overall performance 1st half wasn't good enough and 2nd half wasn't that much better but at least we had a few efforts but ultimately too little too late.
Great turn out by the U's faithful. Shame about the dickheads behind me chanting "Bring on Platt" 5 minutes after he came on and castigating every player whenever they made a mistake (which in fairness was quite often last night).
I've written this season off now, so am looking forward to next season.
Did I mention how shit Charlton are? I hope they get to the Play-off final and get ANNIHILATED by Millwall.
From then on we were pegged back, that Sam fella was very quick and we didn't seem to know how to deal with him. We defended quite well although looking quite shakey, the only mistake seemed to lead to the goal.
I wont even bother looking at that board TBH. You know they're all going to be saying the same thing about Kevin Lisbie and how they deserved to win the game eventhough we actually were the much better side in the second half. But there is the point, the game has two halfs and not just one and we need to play a full 90 minutes of football and not just 45. Were watching our season fall apart right infront of us and it's all becasue we haven't got a decent striker who can score goals.

Amazing how different fans' views can be. Apart from the last ten minutes when we allowed them to put us under pressure I felt comfortable that they wouldn't score.
just be browsing a couple of Norwich forums, christ - some of them are suicidal !, even to the point where they think they could drop out the play offs they are that bad - haha
talking about being desperate just to get a point on saturday

Haha what? Is this the typical negative attitude after a defeat/positive attitude after a win or have they not been playing well for a while? If they don't win the league they'll at least get second. Surely.
Don't know about Forster's header being especially brave.....there wasn't a Col U player within 5 yards of him. Worst bit of non-marking I've seen for a while. Good on him for being in the right place and hitting the target with so much power but I think a really decent keeper would have saved it cos it was just above his head. Great battling performance though and thought Col U got distracted by petty arguments with the ref and the ball boys. Lisbie appeared to push his head into Bailey's (who was no doubt asking for it....) but it all seemed a bit soft. You do wonder when we are next going to manage a 2nd goal in a game. Probably be in a 2-4 defeat somewhere (sorry....been a Charlton supporter for too long now....)
did a longish post earlier then lost it when my PC rebooted itself and I can't be bothered to type it all again. So, pleased with the points and pleased with the battling performance. Back four were outstanding, Dailly and Richardson especially. Semedo too was outstanding. Racon is a passenger, what does Jojo have to do to get a game in CM. Akpo is a nuisance sometimes but that is it. He won only one header all game, his first touch is that of an elephant and all he is really is a bull in a china shop. Unlucky with his shot but even that was a bang it in the direction of the goal and hope. Lloyd Sam can put in a blinding cross when the man on him goes down with a serious injury and leaves him all the time in the world. Our form does seem to be gradually picking up but you have to worry where a second goal will come from. In the play-offs we will need to score at least twicw in a game I'm sure and I can't see us capable of doing so at the moment. However, if we can avoid Millwall I'd fancy us against Leeds, Hudds or Swindon over two legs and any of them in the Final except Millwall.
Best team performance I have seen for some time, not because of the skill but the effort and workrate!. Agree about Sam, classy move that made the difference and a good goal. Though like others Semedo MOM.
Wagstaff as well did not make a issue when he was hacked down, and thought the team showed a professional focussed attitude, and not get distracted by a team that earlier this season may well have turned us over!
This is the level guys, bit more flare and who knows!
I thouroughly enjoyed the evening a good game of football a cracking result a bit of passion from parky fronting hoofroyd, a really good finish on the end of a well worked piece of football,
Couldnt help feel that we dropped our standards to theirs and if we had more conviction a better first touch and a bit of vision we could have and should have battered them, they are a poor football team and Hoothroyd a poor manager
[cite]Posted By: ShootersHillGuru[/cite]Thank god that Aidy Boothroyd was never considered to be Charlton manager. I hate his style of long ball, bully boy thugery.
He was though. Went through a couple rounds of interviews but didn't get job because of his excessive wages. This was at same time as Billy Davies et al were also considered.
typical boothroyd team- rely on height and set pieces to make up for lack of skill. however we refused to be bullied, and not only did we stand up to their physical threat, but we played some good football ourselves. my only worry is that we seem to be unable to kill off games and that may prove our downfall against better teams.

Get ready to be dissapointed then Southend.
We'd done so well to build a positive atmosphere, backing the team all night and then it all goes down the drain because of a bunch of morons.
Other than that though, cracking result!

apparently our defenders are meatheads and thugs
I reckon someone has their teams muddled up!
I don't suppose Colchester lost last night, did they?

Randolph the red nose keeper,
Likes to wear his orange clothes..
Agreed ..... there sure seems to be a lack of established world class keepers in the Third Division this year.
;o)
