  • [cite]Posted By: LawrieAbrahams[/cite]Good gutsy performance tonight. Only moment of genuine quality came from Sam to make the goal. Ball spent a lot of time in the air. Colchester are a horrible team to play against but I don't recall Randolph needing to make a save, although he made a howler at the death. Thought Akpo was a handful all game, no idea why Lisbie was snet off but thought no. 25 should have got 2nd yellow for the foul on Waggy.

The ref has to give a foul to book him for it......agree with you though. Definitely worth a second yellow.
  • The ref only gave a throw in for that tackle on Waggy!!

Yeah, Ref bottled that one and gave a throw to us when their fella was nowhere near the ball. Coming immediately after the Lisbie sending off probably was a factor - not that it should have been.

As for the match, thought we played well against difficult opposition. Dailly was superb for me - anyone else notice him going crackers after that ugly big centre forward of their elbowed him in the boat?

Sod watching Colchester every week though. Dog sh*t football at its worst.

well done the binary boys .......plenty of stress as ever with charlton .... randy, potentially, won us the game with that save in the first minute from lisbie, then nearly cost us the win with his walkabout and failed punch but he has enough credits on his cv to get 50 more starts .....
dailly was immense, akpo lead in his boots jumping but unfortunate with his shot that went wide that now means we'll have to watch him scuff it ten more times b4 a proper connection ....
racon wtf he was chuff ... first half atmosphere pathetic , second half the fans really picked it up and wanted the win so badly ....
i now see us as 8% automatics 92% playoffs and 0% out of playoffs come the end of the season , i'll up date it after each game so you all will know where we'll end up ;-)
  • On the OS report, "Sent off: Lisbie 90 (violent conduct)"
  • Dailly MOM fantastic block near the end worth a goal that one
  • Semedo and the back 4 (Dailly particularly) were awesome against a barrage of aerial rubbish

bailey had tons of space but no ball

front two worked hard. I suspect akpo will get caned but I thought he did a good "wrecking ball" job. We needed a physical presence up there and Forster worked hard too (lovely goal aswell)

racin was poor for me and I would have thought Reid on the left wing could have exploited them a little more than waggy who didn't do bad himself.

3 well earned points and now Norwich who are having a wobble! COYR
  • immense performance from all the players..........although Akpo Sodje is starting to get up my nose!! - I appreciate he was up against a couple of big lumps, but how many headers did he win all night...........1 by my reckoning - which is simply not good enough!!!

apart from that little moan,,,,,,,,an excellebt perforamce all round.

4 more wins may just see us up automatically - although that will rely on Leeds slipping up somewhere else along the way and Millwall not winning against Swndon or Huddersfield.

I feel that a play-off place is secure & therefore we must really go for it on Saturday

    c'mon u Reds !!!!!!!!!!!
  • i'm not a fan of his at all but waggy came on chased hard and his mature reaction to the challenge that saw him go into the boards ( i didn't think it was a foul, just the old ball then player challenge)
was a delight to see .... none of that over the top reaction crap ... fair play to the lad , i doffed my cap to him!
  • Just got back. It's the hope thats the killer. Spent the entire match as a bag of nerves must of eaten my way through 5 packets of crisps. Well done lads, good atmosphere just wish I could have enjoyed it more. The ref blowing up was a huge relief. Bring on Saturday. Full marks to the ball boy doing his cheeky tunnel jumping loved that.

I said the same to NLA at the time it looked worse than it was. Momentum took him into him nothing malice no studs just a clash .

Semedo is playing great at the moment and today was no exception.

Saw Dailly get uptight with their no9, thought he was going to smack him one, and Akpoe seemed to get done off the ball by their no. 25 and when he was going off the pitch was pointing at him and gesticulating. Our players did well not to over react and get a red.
  • Another case of job done. Pleased to see Akpo start, he did his job well even though he has frustrating moments. He simply did little things our other strikers can't. Challenged well even if he didn't win it. First half we were winning throw ins and getting onto Colchesters clearances, Akpo was a nuisance and first half their defenders seemed to panic with him there.

Great to see Sam get an assist and nearly a second with Bailey's header. Some good defending from Semedo and the back four though ideally perhaps a few too many dodgy moments and panicking. Got away with them all in the end.

Glad we kept Lisbie quiet, was a bit worried about him before the game.

Forster took the goal well, do wonder if any of our other strikers would have scores that. Not convinced they would have.

Another huge game Saturday, 3 wins from the last 4 and only one conceded is an improvement and better than I expected. Win all four and we should get second, but it's still more hope for me than anything. Main thing for now is we've given ourselves that chance though.

What is interesting is if we beat Norwich and Leeds win, Norwich will only be 3 points above Leeds. Win Saturday and Norwich won't be running away with the title.

It was actually Prutton who introduced himself to Akpo whilst he was on the floor. He trod on his thigh. Don't know whether it was deliberate, but he made off pretty quickly after he did it.
  • [cite]Posted By: craigcafc[/cite]According to Col U website he went for a headbutt on Bailey. Didnt see it myself.
I thought it looked like the incident that left Smodje on the ground. He was standing over him saying something to him before tootling calmly off. Horrible filthy team.

We did our best to chuck it in. Sticking Solly on when he had no idea where he was supposed to go was our typical accident-waiting-to-happen last minute panic. Watching him drifting around confused in some kind of outside right role as both teams hammered the ball over him was uncomfortable.

And Parky, here's a multiple choice.

Q You have a left winger at your disposal do you,

A Play a central midfielder in that position who has fitted in there in the past, but leaves you short in the middle if you deploy him there.
B Play a central midfielder there that hates playing there
C Play a right winger that has struggled on that side in the past
    D Play the left winger
    E A B and C

To be fair Waggy did well there, but it shouldn't have been so difficult. We were pretty good today against a vile side and just made life hard for ourselves late in the day.

From the way Alpoe reacted as he came off the field I thought it was only time before Akpoe got his revenge but he kept it restrained and stayed on the park.
  • A great win. Dooesn't really matter how you win as long as you do.

Randolph was solid again, more solid than Elliot has looked over the past few months imo though that last minute punch, god knows what he was doing.

S.Sodje looked to me as if it hit his hand in the area.

A Sodje, though mistimed about 50 headers still caused a nuisance to their defenders due to his size and presence.

All in all a good night, solid team performance. If we can beat aNorwich who are stumbling across the line then I really do think we will have a great chance of autos.

Yep shook my head in disbelief at the left wing situation. Maybe our natural left winger isn't flavour of the month
  • Bailey did a job tonight on the left, in games like this I don't have a problem with that. Reid shouldn't play every
game just because he's the only natural left winger. He's been good for us but also inconsistent, hasn't played as well recently.
  • At the end of the day you cant complain, some people will say we could have played bails on the right and bring reid in on the left. But then little Lloydy comes in and gets a cracking assist, you cant drop racon or semedo for bailey just to accommodate reidy on the wing either!

  • Agree about the Racon/Waggstaff sub. Surely a left footed played should be playing on the left wing!

Fortunately we got the results and it worked out.
  • Business end win. What's required.

No Holt or Hoolahan Saturday has me confident of a win Sat.

Akpo won 1 out of 23 headers.
  • I thought Waggy did well. He usually does when he comes on as sub.

is the hoola man injured or suspended?
  • injured.

Waggy was great when he just got up and got on with it.

Another '1-0 to the Charlton'. Getting a bit like Don Howe's Arsenal from the eighties! Still, I don't care Howe it's Don, as long as we do it right!;-)
  • Nailbiting match but we competed and eventually prevailed which is all we can ask.

Lloyd Sam gets stick, occasionally justified, but the goal illustrated why he would be first pick of our present wingers for me. The one moment of genuine quality in a war of attrition rather than a football match. On top of that he tracked back and even got Borrowdale out of gaol on one occasion by coming right across the field covering.

Semedo and the back 4 were excellent Racon looked better than he has done of late but disappeared prior to being subbed. Bailey put himself about which helped make a statement that we weren't going to be intimidated.

Akpo and Forster kept going against those big lumps and Forster took his goal well. Could he be another Clff Holton figure for us?

Only downers for me were the twats who booed Mooney when he came on and the fact that after such a hard fought victory no player did the tunnel jump. Shame because it is a small act that bonds the players and fans in the moment of victory.

    Roll on Norwich though!

Was that when he took Lisbie out on the halfway line? Got a big cheer, that did.

Did BDL end up doing it instead? It was a bit hard to see from where I was.
  • brilliant atmo today
  • Colchester are an absolute rough-house team - typical Aidy Boothroyd.

The incident with the handball in our box in the last 10 mins: I was miles away, but when I saw it I instinctively thought it was a penalty.
Credit to Charlton for standing up to ultra-physical approach of the visitors.
    Our supporters were excellent.
