Had to laugh at Spring tonight. As awfully ineffective as ever and his 2 corners in front of us were priceless. Fair play for his sportmanship at the end but how he continually picks up wage as a profesional footballer is beyond me
Also thought he had a good game. Can't say he was inaffective at all. He was just never going to get in front of Bailey semedo racon etc. Good signing for orient imo
Spring wasn't that bad last night. Did his job well which was to sit in front of the defence and spray the ball around. Didn't do much wrong we were just a bit better.
Agree he wasn't really bad, but as ever never really had a big impact on the game. Trading him for eg McCormack suggests we appear to have moved ON at at time we could very easily have gone the other way. Nothing at all against him but he's one of those players with nice touch who never really seem to affect the game (except v Palace!).
When they went a man up, you'd have expected Spring to run the show for them but he didn't do a whole lot, he tried a few hollywood balls in the 1st half but nothing came of them, his corners were atrocious as well, wasn't terribly impressed at all by him.
Thought Spring did what he always did, played ok but didn't stand out either. Only difference was like siblers said he tried a few hollywood passes, he never needed to or didn't do that for us.
[cite]Posted By: Stefco[/cite]I thought Matt Spring was very sporting in his congratulating Chris Solly, at the end of tonights game.
He was genuinely pleased for him. They obviously got on well during his time at the club.
Shame it didn't work out here for Spring, too much competition in the middle of the park.
Didn't notice this at the match, but saw it on TV. Good shout, it was a very nice and genuine gesture.
Shame a few pricks had to boo his every touch. It's not like he left us under any clouds, it simply didn't work out, as you say, because of competition.

Agree with Scoham and Siblers here.
Spring generally did what Spring does best .......a cog in the wheel, that keeps the other cogs turning.
He tied his team together, sat often and let Steven Dawson do the box to box stuff.
It's probably exactly how his manager asked him to play.
Last night showed why he left us............looked ok but didn't contribute anything, esp when we went dowm to 10 men.
Tidy player............but who wants tidy !! MaCormack was far better IMHO & although Racon made the odd mistake (esp for their goal) he tried things to change to game, whereas Spring didn't
Spring was so ineffective it was laughable. When we went down to 10 he sat very deep and saw an awful lot of the ball. He had plenty of time to use the ball....the fact that he didnt pick a pass for most of the 2nd half says it all.....and as for his corners?!?
Shame a few pricks had to boo his every touch. It's not like he left us under any clouds, it simply didn't work out, as you say, because of competition.
Yeah agree as inoffensive a player as you're likely to get..... I believe we're limit up on plums that can support us

I didn't boo Spring but I can't honestly say I'm going to cheer him back at the Valley either. He came here did not a lot then went. I hope he does well for himself but I won't be looking out for Orient for Spring's sake.
The booing of Spring from a few of our moronic fans was disgusting. He didn't do anything to deserve that at all. I hope the morons won't be at the Valley when Orient visit us. I believe he he always tried hard for Charlton, but we had better players so he didn't really get much of a chance.
I certainly didn't boo Spring on Friday - was too busy laughing at his corners
I'm sure he's a very nice bloke, respects his Mum and helps old ladies across the road
the point is he is one of the most ineffective footballers I have ever seen and I still can't quite work out why Parky made him first signing as manager when midfield was the area we were packed with quality (we had Zheng Zhi as well as last season's midfield five) on the books

More than likely that those fans will be at the home game aswell.
It wasnt excessive booing, just a little bit.
I doubt he even heard it to be fair.

Just from memory, at the time Spring was signed in January 2008 ... the longterm injury list of midfielders comprised:
Zheng Zhi, Therry Racon, Jose Semedo - Jonjo was a raw inexperienced 16 year old, plus Ambrose was expected to be sold that January window, to save paying his Prem contract wages.
So which ambitious, experienced, quality midfielder would you have wanted to sign - but who was desperate to join a rockbottom club in crisis, doomed to relegation, with empty coffers?
It's been evident from the way Parky has used Spring right from the beginning, that he was signed only as cover, to strengthen numbers in the squad.

I think Parky was simply trying to get some new faces in at the time, as well as thinking we would lose some of the midfeilders in sales. Those players apart from ZZ never went so Spring was always surplus.
I thought he was a good signing, he never let us down when he was given a chance.
I think he lives in Strood near one of Gumbo's mates. Or I could be totally wrong but I saw a chap who looked very much like Matthew Spring resplendent with tattoos and big nose over that estate not a week ago

Kitson , Rommedahl ,Todorov and Varney also none of them Charlton legends but will always be remembered because of that.

Other than that...
He was pony for us.
