Matt Spring

I personally quite liked him as a player, the no nonsense type you need in this league. Does anyone know where he's gone and perhaps why Parky isn't even giving him the occasional game anymore ?

  • We have more and better central midfielders - he is imo a good defensive midfielder - always seems to lay the ball backwards rather than playing forwards. A good player to put on to steady the game when we are winning by one. He has been on the bench most of the season but there was no space for him on the bench on Saturday.
  • half a dozen games ago i'd have thought give him a go he can do no worse but the rac and semi have been doing well of late so no room for him atm ....
although i'm surprised he hasn't been on the bench and with so few 'reserve' fixtures he'll prolly be as rusty as you like if he ever returns
  • If Semedo plays on Saturday at Southampton and gets booked he faces a two match ban.

Spring will almost certainly be needed then.
  • If we don't go up, he'll probably be an important player next season
  • Spring certainly divides opinion but I am unclear as to why this experienced and PP signing has seemed to completely drop off the radar. Just seems a little odd to me.
  • He'll be on the bench regularly now Shelvey has gone, was there against Exeter.
  • From what I heard on Tuesday it doesn't sound as if he's very popular with Parky at the moment. For what reason I'm not sure.

Turned into a bit of p*ss taking with a few players saying they didn't know who he was anymore. Seems to have taken Solly under his wing as well as they both live down Medway way.
  • Shame good player, doesn't waste the ball and similar player to semedo which is his problem....although bit more attacking(slightly) basically a holding midfield player, could have been useful but who knows why he hasn't been given more of a chance same with shelvey at CM as we have hardly been firing on all cylinders and as good as semedo has been dont think he should have played as much as he has and felt that more attack minded players in his place for a few home games at least that being racon, shelvey or spring

Cobham I believe and yes I believe parky has his choices and sticks by them no matter what

"doesn't waste the ball" have to disagree with you on that i think his passing his very sloppy. Even short/simple ones.
That for me is one of the reasons why Semedo is in there ahead of Spring every week.
  • man never plays get rid
  • Too lightweight, gives the ball away, doesn't battle.

    Send him on his way.
  • how much do we think Spring earns a week?

and how many games has he played this season?

I'm thinking he represents pretty poor value for a club that is basically skint?
  • Would have thought he is on decent Championship wages, although he signed from Luton- he probably had been on a decent amount at Sheff Utd.

He does represent poor value as imho has made no impact and although a decent solid player is down the pecking order, if we go up- he is not good enough, if we stay down- possibly can't afford another contract and not seen as good enough by Parky anyway for this League

Add his wages to Leon McKenzie's and we're basically giving away thousands a week for nothing!

I disagree with a few of you though, i think he is good enough for this league definitely

Is he though? Semedo is probably right up there as one of the best purely defensive midfielders in the league, and he can do that job in the Championship.

Spring doesn't offer enough going forward to take another midfielders position, I mean would anyone want to play Semedo and Spring together in a four man midfield?

If Semedo is good enough in his job for a top 6 side, I can't see Spring capable of anything more than being good enough for a mid table side in this league.

For me Spring is much like Holland, whatever league we're in, he'll never stand out and offer things other players don't have. He won't look poor in the Championship, but he wouldn't look fantastic in League Two for another club either.

Not to mention a certain Mr Moutakills wages.

Not sure that Spring will be on excessive wages, but next season he may be the best we can get.
  • Spring is out of contract in a few weeks.

I see what you're trying to say but to compare Holland to Spring is a real insult to Matty IMO. He played a key role for a decent Rep. of Ire side in the World Cup finals scoring a screamer against the Germans remember!

Not comparing their careers and what Holland used to be capable of. Of course he was the much better player, don't disagree with that.

From 06/07 onwards they've both been similar in that whatever level we're at they don't stand out.
  • I would let Spring go and if still available sign Jackson in his place (I mean one wage out one in). Jackson can play left back or left midfield and will likely play more games in a season than Spring has under Parky. Even if we lose one of the main Center Midfield players there must be younger players as good if not better than Spring available in the summer.
  • Signed for Leyton Orient on 2 year deal
  • Orient are making quite a good few signings this summer.

We might soon be below them in the London pecking order B-)
  • hardly done jack for us,glad he has gone.
  • Good luck matt, should have been used during our mid-season slump but oh well.
  • Good player, neat and tidy and a nice bloke. The problem was that Parky's judgement was well off when we signed him. He didn't see Semedo or Bailey or Wright being the answer. A loan would have been a better answer.
  • Scored an important goal, apart from that looked a lightweight.
  • better than Racon in my opinion who is sooooo over-rated.

To be fair, I think Semedo and Racon were injured at the time weren't they? Agreed a loan would have been the answer but Luton needed the money and probably would not have accepted a loan offer.
