Shocking? I don't know what planet you live on. But this is Charlton, Third Division.
We had 2 LBs crocked - and at that time of the season were lucky to pick up an experienced half-decent defender. He never uprooted trees, but he came in and did a sound job. Never let anyone down.
Anyone who says he was shocking is an utter footballing fool. For the first time since Luke Young we had a defensively reliable full back, who knew when to get tight and when to narrow and support cd's. It was an utter joy to watch when we suddenly had a full back who knew you have to narrow when you're teams been turned, especially when people like Sodje and Boughera could get out of position in the blink of an eye in that era. And as for positional sense with Youga......
Yes he wasn't amazing going forward, but he was able to probe effectively and didn't sell himself in no man's land like Youga. Good luck to him but he should be at a champ club.

utter joy to watch?? i remember is his ability to pick out a pass to someone in the stand. there were some on here who wanted us to sign him in the summer, god knows why, wiggins for me anyday
Randy and borrowdale came in at around the same time and we were on the crest of a slump that had many fearing we'd fail to make the play offs I think we let 4 goals in in the last 9 league games and just missed out on the autos
Matt Fry after injury is gradually pushing his way back up the leagues, last season got promotion and won the Ryman League Cup with Concorde, now with Dartford. Still had a profile picture of him wearing a charlton shirt.
Thought he was a no frills guy but surely better than that level! Hope he gets sorted - never struck me as a billy big spuds. Just an honest pro really
lots of good pros can't find work/clubs .. market forces .. too many players chasing too few clubs who have too little money for players' wages
I think it will get much worse before it gets better for these men too. I suspect that players of the this age (over 25) may never get back into professional football as by the time the clubs have settled down their finances, and the top clubs have released all the kids they won't ever play, those looking for clubs now will be too old.
I watched him for Tonbridge at Folkestone in a pre-season game, think he had a year out injured or something.
Indeed - he is at Tonbridge and I've seen him twice against Chelmsford and Sutton - positional play looks very good at Conference South level and has been giving it his all - good signing for the Angels.

agreed KHA .. like university 'degrees', a glut cheapens the product .. academies are also churning out young 'pros' with high expectations but most 'graduates' have little chance of a top flight (or even a moderate) career as well as the older pro who's been around the block once too often
plenty of our old boys now in non league. Last I heard of Grant Basey he was playing cricket for Bromley waiting for his agent to get him a team.
Not too many quick singles then :-)
To be serious I think Grant did a cruciate or similarly serious injury at Wycombe last season. After what that thug Blizzard did to him too one has to fear for his footballing future at league level anyway.
As for Borrowdale I wish him all the best. he came in as a loanee in difficult circumstances and gave it his best shot. Hopefully Tonbridge Angels will serve as a shop window for something better if he can get properly fit.
I saw Garry Borrowdale on Monday - he won the Dad's race at my daughter's sports day. Turns out his son goes to nursery with my son too so they might become football buddies!
Apparently he was released by Gillingham recently having not made an appearance. Not sure what he'll be up to next season yet but he didn't look especially in shape to be honest

What more do you expect of a loan player?
