[cite]Posted By: BigRedEvil[/cite]Our left backs over the past few years:
Thatcher- Always injured
McEvelerly- Injured aftera few games
Youga- Out for 4 months of this season
Basey- Out for the season
Jackson- Injured after a few games
I fear for Borrowdale!
I fear you'll be wishing it on him after a couple of games.
He started off really well for us, I remember his debut and nobody knew where he'd come from but he played with great maturity. Unfortunately it was downhill from there. He got young player of the year after improving towards the end of what was a poor season, nobody else stepped up to the plate to take the crown though so he won it!
Brighton fans liked him so by all accounts, he'll probably do well at League One level. He doesn't have any stand out attributes, he was fairly standard at Palace but he's 24 now so may have improved!
We need a striker more than a left back. Left Backs rarely win you games / promotion - strikers do! We could have put Solly or Semedo in there and made do and spent limited funds trying the resolve the issue of having a load of rubbish strikers.
Sure I see the logic of getting him in to "do a job" but when we are playing as badly as we are I can't help thinking we should be gambling on a striker not playing it safe with a steady eddy left back!

we have no left backs.
He signs a left back and all most people can do is point out he needs other positions 1st. If he had signed another forward how many would have asked what about a left back. Sometimes Parky is on a hiding to nothing.
I would say that we a left back 'to do a job' is waaaaay easier to come by than a goal machine striker. For example we have leant out several defenders (clark, Mambo, A.N Other I seem to remember) and haven't heard much from them good or bad, where as with McCleod and Dickson they have both made news and not for their goalscoring prowess.

Yeah that's the point I've been making. How many goalscorers are sitting in Championship reserve sides wanting to go out on loan? Not many, if any. But I bet if you looked at appearance stats for each Championship club, you could make a list of 3/4 full backs that haven't played much football recently and might be available.
Perhaps with strikers we should have looked at young players at Premier League clubs, rather than the back up players of struggling Championship sides. Those clubs might have decent standard full backs available, but any decent striker is going to be in their team.
I'd rather have Semedo in midfield and not potentially break Solly like Pardew broke Wagstaff. Yassin will never play for us again, possibly also has big win/appearance bonuses on top of his supposed £8k a week contract.
Borrowdale isn't ideal but probably the best we can get and should do a job.

Really hope we can keep hold of him. Quality, reliable full back and I do not think it is a coincidence how solid the defence has been since his arrival.
[cite]Posted By: YTS[/cite]Would rather have Solly, Jose, Moo2, anyone else from our yoof team/reserves or Off_it to be honest.
Dowie rates him, so there you go. P*lace tosh and a waste of time. Fed up with sh*t like this.
Feel free to have a pop at me if he scores the winner in our 'massive' derby though ;-)
Thanks for the vote of confidence mate, but I've never played left back in my life. Gorgeous George/Boom used to do a job there back in the day though. Broke some pore sods leg playing for "Sporting Unison" I believe. I was always more of a cultured ball-playing centre half with a knack for scoring towering headers at corners and howitzer long-range free kicks. Then I woke up.
As for Borrowdale - I like him. Gets up and supports without over-extending, good left peg, bit of height, gets stuck in

Bostock, Moses, Borrowdale, all off to South Africa with England.
Reading the article, I had no idea that this fella played for Brighton after the whole serial killer snafu.
This means we do not need to risk Youga early, also it seems he can offer cover at Centre Back when Kelly returns.

Wise words Sco.
yep, can't be easy to find an available left back at this stage. Sounds like a solid signing all things considered.
Hope this guy does a good job and helps us to get promotion that we all badly want.
Gary Borrowdale, Borrowdale, GARRY Borrowdale
Nice one Glenn

Done well since he came. Hope we keep him for the rest of the season.
Not seen anything of Matt Fry but imho we need someone with more experience at LB for the run in.
