I think Baker has been very restrained about Charlton. I can't remember him ever giving us much stick and when he was on a crusade to demolish 90% of the country's football stadia, The Valley was on the list to be preserved.
Really? I remember listening to him slag us off constantly in the car all the way up to Newcastle once. Phoned him up the following week to put him straight on a few things.
Saw him at charing x a few weeks later - dressed like a tramp.
Perhaps I don't remember him slagging us off because I like him and therefore make allowances - us tramps have to stick together. He was keen to save The Valley because of The Who concerts. The Den (New) was on the demolish list.
Its a sad day when such a London broundcaster such as Danny gets chucked off the BBC London station. OK you have to get his interlect/sense of humour but most proper South Londoners will through ancient London family stories etc. Got to say love Robert Elms prog as well and having them both on during the day made me proud to be a Londonder and proud of our BBC station. Not now. Evertything seems to be going into the bland blanderiser and anyone on here whose offended by Danny supporting his local team nad Roberts prog you are part of this and will never get it.
Met him once at a friends party in Deptford. He lived next door and let us use his garden! Told him he had a great face for radio after he gave me stick for being a Charlton fan! Top bloke.
