  • I couldn't care less whether Danny Baker supports Millwall, which by the way is fine as he was bought up in Bermondsey so he supports his local team, he is still one of the most inventive broadcasters we have and appears to be a decent bloke as well. I listen to radio a lot when driving and would welcome more of Danny not less I love his Radio 5 show on a Saturday it's a bit nuts but always entertaining. This just demonstrates what a bunch of hopeless no marks run the BBC.

I absolutely agree with you Algarve but BBC London are losing listeners by the bucket load (I'm sure I read 200,000 in the last year alone...and their starting figure wasn't great).

The BBC trust are saying that costs have to be cut.....I'd imagine Baker is one of the highest paid people there.....people aren't listening......something has to give no?

I've always thought that BBC London must be one of the most difficult to get right. What do people in London want from their local BBC station? If you are in Cornwall or Shropshire there is a definite audience for twee things such as Gardening features and local fair coverage but London is just too vibrant and cosmopolitan that it must be impossible to get the mix right.

    Very good post sir!

How old are you Crayaddick? That's seriously idiotic.

Personally I like Danny Baker, his show on radio 5 before it became "5 live" was probably the best breakfast show ever, absolutely brilliant most mornings and helped me with my drudge into central London. So he's Millwall, and ?, I know many of them and few if any would have the ability to write that hilariously tongue in cheek thing he did for the Times. After supporting Charlton for over 40 years I can take a ribbing, and especially from a fellow south Londoner who supports his local team, I take it and smile and await my turn to give it back and it's all done with respect. Now give me a twat who grew up near me or even Danny Baker and who supports Man Utd, Liverpool,Man City or even bloody Chelsea for that point and the respect goes, as does the fun in their piss taking, they are the ones who are total and utter losers.
Shame on you BBC, you dropped the wrong guy.

    Well said that man!
    Agreed!
  • oh dear Cray

Love Danny Baker's show on 5live.

Wind your neck in calling me an idiot. Bit hypocritical of you.

  • Danny Baker, in my view the best football broadcaster I have ever heard. Genuine when he says this is not the place to talk about how Chelsea are going to do with some bloke, who,s never set foot in the ground. Last week coach poker, with a coach of bury fans and Yeovil fans. He is tops l love him, and think he,s vastly entertaining.

  • Cray, he's a spanner, you hardly expect him to love us, do you? He supports his local side and is a damn good radio broadcaster, so he's fine by me.

I really hope he didn't see that tweet because it just makes you sound bitter and envious and doesn't reflect on Charlton fans very well at all. People losing their jobs is never nice, but losing them when they are clearly highly competent is just mystifying.

It was written in the heat of the moment, after reading any article he wrote about CAFC it was deleted very quickly.

I'm entitled to an opinion so people calling me a idiot is not needed
  • I think Baker has been very restrained about Charlton. I can't remember him ever giving us much stick and when he was on a crusade to demolish 90% of the country's football stadia, The Valley was on the list to be preserved.

Just reminded me - did anyone else see the big 'Ralph Milne Ultras' flag that was hanging up at the Man Utd end at chelsea the other night? Bizzarre but I definitely saw it.
  • You sure it wasnt the "RaplhMilne" ultras?

Really? I remember listening to him slag us off constantly in the car all the way up to Newcastle once. Phoned him up the following week to put him straight on a few things.

Saw him at charing x a few weeks later - dressed like a tramp.
  • That's him, not me.

    I'm always well turned out.
