Good luck to him. My own mortality hit home after the game on Saturday when I found out a mate from uni lost out in a fight to the C word on Friday night.
Sat with them, his dad and his son (Sonny) in home end for a midweek 2-1 defeat at new den around 94 season.
Nice bloke - up for bit of banter and told everyone that I was Charlton !!!
Good luck to the Candyman. I am looking forward to Charlton's next spell in the Premiership, so he can make his offer of an unbeatable bet, where he offered one brand new Land Rover, in return for a fiver if Charlton won the Premiership. (I think he made quite a few fivers last time).
The guy is a genius and a great entertainer. Without him starting 606 back in the early 90s, stations like TalkSport may not even exist today. I've never met him but I really, really wish him all the best.
Can only add to what else has been said. The Candyman is the best broadcaster this country has currently on air and long may it remain. A total and utter genius. Only the Great cuddly Ken was better in my opinion.
The best broadcaster around. Loved his football shows was one the few that subscribed to his ill fated All day breakfast.Have missed him on his Saturday show which I downlaod as a pod cast. Same age as me same area and have friends in common. Can forgive him being a Wall supporter as I went to schol in Deptford so have friends (and shamefully family!) that attend the Den. An exceptionally talented man who I wish all the best to. Hope that he is fit and well soon. Thinking of you Danny.

Proper Millwall fan from the sixties, will often recite the team from his first match during his radio shows. Stood on the "halfway line" with his mates at the old Den, and refuses to get involved in anything at Millwall as a celebrity fan. Always has a little dig at Charlton, but will always say that West Ham and Palace are their hated rivals. Coming from the same era, can echo that Millwall & Charlton always used to co-exist without any problems, just banter.
As others have said, talented and innovative broadcaster, his 606 was the original in the 80's.
Talented, imaginative, intelligent, and funny. Supports his local team (well, one of them) and understands the proper supporter's dislike of glory boys and manufactured "passion". All the very very best to him; look forward to him chuckling at deserving targets (and probably us) again soon. He also preserved The Valley during his Saturday mornings "demolition" of all but the most deserving league grounds.

Love his BBC London radio show and his football broadcasting. Also one of the best writers on TV. Many of the big stars are reading out his gags.
well said, can only echo these comments

Best wishes to him, I hope he gets through it.
However I certainly wish him no ill and hope he makes a complete recovery.
have only ever found three things to be a fan of in life; Charlton, Danny Baker and Alain de Botton
the fact he is 'wall has always been a bit hard to reconcile and that.... but he is that good that I can easily let it slide
have been missing him from his 5 live podcasts recently.... now I know why
had been thinking of a world without the baker man... hope that doesn't come about for quite some time to come
get well soon DB
All the stuff on his Facebook page - what show is that from? I only listen to the Saturday morning thing.............
BBCLondon 94.9fm 3 - 5 in the PM. Listening to it right now minus the Candyman.
Has done good stuff ever since Sniffin Glue ... and used to see him at a lot of gigs including Sham 69.
All the best mate.
Thanks! Not sure if that is podcast - will have to investigate. He has damned fine taste in music too.
