I can agree with the sentiments Steve, but not about the lack of pride, even though I've hit some depths with this club.
The full members cup was actually not one of those depths as it allowed me to watch my club at Wembley for the first time. Steve mackenzie however most certainly was, as he came across as one of the first 'pick up the cash and stuff the club' merchants I had ever witnessed, even allowing for the misplaced pass that found it's way into the net against arsenal. :-) But all about opinions and I expect some will believe he was awesome????
I'll have to concede that footballing wise this is possibly as bad as it's been, not necessarily because these are the worst set of players we have ever had, but because we seem to lack direction, both on and off the field. Anger has always been there in differing levels, I'm stil bloody awful for ages after a bad result or poor performance and those around me will testify I'm sure, that the passion is still there. Strangely though I'm pleased, it means the years of comfort have not turned me into some plastic prawn sandwich fan.
But all this model club stuff and we used to be fighters, sorry but I don't buy it. This persona of ours has only existed for a fraction of our history and certainly for only about a quarter of the time I have supported this club. And until a small number of fans, some with cash and some with a burning desire, galvanised themselves and a few thousand others, we were just a homeless non entity heading to oblivion and ignored by all but a fraction of the number of fans that now turn up to watch us and that was even before our cop out move to surrey. We shouldn't forget that less than twenty years ago we were playing regularly in front of sometimes well below five thousand fans and I almost knew the faces of every single one of them.
Pain and watching Charlton have for the most part gone hand in hand for me over the last forty two and a half years, save for some brief respites of sheer and unadulterated pleasure. But I’m not going to recount the countless periods of pleasure, as each of us will have our own, as much as our own tales of countless moments of gut wrenching heartache, which of course includes the last few seasons.
Pride for me has not been about what our club does on the field, what it does or does not have in the bank, or what we have in the trophy cabinet. It’s about knowing what it means to me and my family and the knowledge that we have a select few that have and will follow us beyond normal boundaries. And Steve, despite what your feeling right now, I expect if the time ever comes, you and I will again be one of the few.
I am still proud!! May not always be proud of the boys on the pitch but I am ALWAYS proud to say that I support Charlton. I was proud when they had nothing and fighting for survival, I was proud when we regained our home, I was proud when we fought our way into the premiership and still when we got knocked down, and down again. I was proud at the whole composure of the club and the majority of fans when things started to go wrong. But most of all I am proud still that I can lift my head up and say ' League one, Premier league or non-league the whole time there is a Charlton Athletic Football Club I will be a PROUD supporter!!'
I wouldnt say for me its a lack of pride for me iam still proud to support them and proud to be from the area. However i do share your views of fed upness i just cant see us ever winning another game against anyone Yeovil on Sat will be a struggle to get a point as we found out at their place. I mean to be struggling against teams of this nature is a new low for me as a CAFC fan i know some on here will feel we have been through worse but its the pathetic way the club seem to think things are going good wankers. Sorry not happy with results recently not one result of the last 5 has been good enough.
Steve, I understand exactly where you are coming from mate, but I also know that you will be there when it counts.....a few who made disparaging remarks obviously dont know Steve personally and I can see why they had a little pop at him, but mark my words, knowing the man, he will be there come what may.

Are you being serious?
We were down to ten men four about 60 minutes in atrocious conditions and was purely down to an inspired goalkeeping display.
Norwich drew there 3-3 with a injury time equaliser. Look at the bigger picture, or you may as well give Ray Gosling a call.
So it wasnot our fault we had someone sent off. I am fed up of excueses poor conditions or not that was jsut another game we should have won no excuses. Just like Monday and Saturday will be when we draw 1-1 with them at home again or like last season they will beat us at home :-) o happy days.
'I started going reguarly in the late 80's and even when the match was crap there was normally enough banter around to raise a smile. The old Covered end (and North Bank at UP) could be a right laugh even if the game was rubbish. You only see glimpses of that nowadays (Brentford away was a bit like that with the banter and sereneding of past greats)
Now I seem to be surrounded by people who either boo manically at the first misplaced or want to sing the happy clappy crap that we seem to have adopted as club athems (If there is a worse chant than C.A.F.C . in the country I've yet to hear it)
Maybe it's just me getting older but the whole matchday 'experience' is less fun so the way I feel about the club is much more reliant on what's happening on the pitch than it used to be and after the last few seasons that's not great.'
Ketman mate i cant go saturday,as part of my business signing a 3 year contract with Westcombe Park R.FC. to supply branded and unbranded kit to them,we agreed to sponsor a match and it's this weekend.I would have loved to i wouldn't have slagged them off just tried to explain how much the club means to us,and all we require is 100% back.

I'll second that.
Frustrating times indeed but i'm in it for the long haul and i've renewed for next season so come what may i'll be there

Thats a bit unfair having to start the game on -1 goals
0-0 injury time equaliser?
We're NEVER going to win a game again?
