  • i think this is a blow, really started to look a good player just before his injury. i dont think JJ is a natural Left back and more suited to in the middle, Fry not really a left back either so i think this is our weakest area if im honest. would have loved to see him and reid playing together think they would have done well but oh well what can you do, january we have to buy a natural left back or get a free one similar to borrowdal who made a big difference when he was here.
  • This is a big blow.A fit and firing Kelly Youga is a big plus for us especially going forward.Have a look on" into the Valley" messageboard and Reamsofverse comment on the injury. He loves a conspiracy.
  • Really think that we should try and come to some sort severence deal.........

    Probably best all round!
  • Have to agree with Ken, coming to some sort of financial agreement would be best for all parties, as he is one of the highest earners. Would still be very sad to see him go as i think he has so much to offer.
  • Why would it be a good deal for Youga. As it stands he gets full pay and the benefit of the kind of medical treatment that money can't (realistically) buy.

I wouldn't entertain leaving even if I was offered full pay to go, and he is very unlikely to ever be offered the same money as he is on now so anything less than 100% would be a financial mistake by the player.

Chances are that we would still get some sort of fee for him if he left as he has been with us since he was 17 (or 19) so it is in outr best interests to get him fit if he refuses to leave.
  • Everything went wrong when he shaved off his magical hair.
  • I'm gutted although not completely surprised about Youga.

I agree that we need to look at the Left Back situation sooner rather than later.

Last season we had a one in one out loan policy. This year ( apart from Fry and Martin who are here for the year and whose parent clubs are probably helping with the wages ) we have Davisson , Mambo and Stav out .

Luke Daniels has now returned to WBA and Borrowdale is available . Apart from Youga , Borrowdale was our best Left Back last season ( as I've said on other threads Jackson is an excellant 'midfielder by trade' ) , but I guess its down to money at the end of the day.
  • Surely his 'services' could be used as well, he may not be fit for first team football, but surely he could participate in the club's trust and academy scheme, learn to get his coaching badges etc.

We could always do with another turnstile operator on matchdays!......

Seriously, the player has to understand our circumstances, okay he may not want to receive a lower set of terms, but pressumambly he wants to be involved with football.!

He really cannot be that injured , that precludes him from doing something constructive, Parky was speaking quite favourably about him just a few weeks ago, and hs return to training!
  • Interesting that in Parky's interview he says that the specialist wanted to do the exploratory arthroscopy six months ago, so why the hell didn't they get it done then?

Because Kelly went with the advice given by a French doctor.

  • I wouldnt pay the the bloke he is obviously taking the piss and we should be saying See you in Court crab head

Yeah but he is probably a nice bloke and did play a couple of good games for us in his Charlton Career. people have very short memories on here. Palace away was quite possibly the worst left back performance I have ever seen from a Charlton full back, but lets carry on paying him anyway as he may come back in about two years.
  • in a few weeks he'll be able to walk and probably drive. Get him to fill in where needed, Box Office, Club Shop etc and if he refuses then sack him. Can't see why he should sit around being paid for doing NOTHING.
  • Big blow this imo. I'd hang onto him for now though, I don't think it's necessarily the end of Kelly's CAFC career - he's unlikely to be inundated with offers from elsewhere next summer so we may be able to re-sign him on significantly reduced wage or on a pay-as-you-play deal. Maybe not likely but not impossible.

I agree we could ideally do with strengthening our options at left back, but I don't agree Borrowdale is the answer - he's no better than Jackson imo and offers even less overlapping threat. I'd still like to see Fry given a few games as he's looked pretty good from what I've seen of him.

Please explain how he is obviously taking the piss?
  • As you say Addickted he got an 'opinion' an in the medical world that can mean almost almost anything, to anyone, at any particular moment in time.

He would have seen a specialist in the UK , so unless he was considering some advanced surgery, as a last resort this seems strange!.

Mediacl opinion is like legal, there is always someone prepared to offer one, bit like me on here!

So in that spirit I think he was hoping that after a decent rest it would recover, seems to me that it has flarred up again , hence the new opinion. Pure speculation, but probably nearer the truth!
  • Because he has chose to ignore our doctors advice on numerous occasions always returning to his french doctor, last season he failed to do the same.

had 10-15 good games for us fed up with being a piggy bank for players not prepared to give everything.

if you dont agree good enough but he is a piss taker who had no intention of putting a first team shirt on ever again FACT
  • I didn't say I don't agree with you, just wanted to know what facts there are to suggest he is just sitting around waiting to get paid for nothing. If that is absolutely true then it doesn't look too good.
  • From when it happened to now the word has been that he had no intention of coming back especially after we failed to go up. Chose to take an easy option sit out his contract and go in the summer. Wouldnt pay the toss pot a bean, cowards way out and takes the easy option of my doctor in france says i cant play.

There should either be a way we can withhold his registration or just tell him to jog on
  • I also heard from senior club sources last season that they didn't think he wanted to play for us again, so no surprise.

Since his contract would be as a "player," you wouldn't be able to assign him to duties outside of that.
Unless Charlton have become a complete "Mom & Pop" operation and Youga has the worst agent ever.
  • "Unfortunately for Kelly it's going to be a long period on the sidelines and obviously we wish him all the best."

Right. That's Parky's words; somehow I think that means he pretty much won't play for us, or maybe even anyone, again...
  • Bump

WSS was he training today or just watching and being about with the lads?
  • Spoke to him today. He's spends 4 weeks in France then 1 over here recuperating. Only the 2nd time Powell has seen him since he's been in chanrge. I'll stick a bit more up about it on Monday when I'm not on my iPhone.
  • When you're not clogging
  • He's hoping to back in May. May get a rolling contract, Powelly seems very affectionate towards him. Praises his hard work and commitment.
  • I have to admit, when people were saying that he must love just picking up a wage and not give a stuff about us, I didn't think it was the case, as he always gave it his all on the pitch. I one served him in my old workplace, and he was a really nice guy, he saw my charlton hat (our heater was broken in January) and we talked for a solid 10 minutes about all things Charlton, and he was telling me how great it felt to pull on our shirt and break into the first team after being at Scunthorpe.

He was our best player last season before he got injured in terms of consistent performances and I for one really hope we see him play for us again

He was absolutely terrific. I've no doubts we'd have been promoted if he hadn't been injured. I'd love to see him back.
  • Him and Bailey looked class last year with his overlapping ability
shame because he would been up there for poty award if he kept up his early form
however could of been a llyod sam great start, then nothing

Agree with that although can't see him being offered a new contract, he won't play for us again.
