  • [cite]Posted By: Sage[/cite]Can I ask.. Who, Where and When did someone say Youga and Racon are being sold?
Personally I really hope they don't as they offer something different and have both got good technical ability and that something that they bring could be flair/excitement? Racon when he is on his day and doing well, could possibily the best midfielder in the league.
Well, I guess this shows the position we're in. Just got to think though. What if we get promoted after we sell them in January, would you class that as now two players lost that could be able to play in the Championship or not?
EGM has said, have watched some of the videos on CAFC Player and they've even put it on there. We would have sold Youga if he wasn't injured. Racon a couple of clubs offered to take him for nothing but we want a fee.

I know what you're saying, but I can see why the board are thinking like that. Semedo they want to keep as a he's a key player. Racon hasn't performed that well. If the average wage is £2k, Racon is performing nowhere near the level of someone worth 3 times as much. He's not worth 2 or 3 times what McCormack is he?

I'd like to keep Youga but will he get back to the level he was playing at just before he got injured?

Thank you Len and Scoham, much appriecated. I understand now :-)

Completely agree that Racon hasn't been performaning and therefore at the moment is not worth 3 times the average amount. I think everyone agrees that Semedo is a key player so thats a must to keep him. Racon's technical ability is better than McCormack in my opinion but not his all round game no. So I completely agree.

I'd love to see Youga back in a Charlton shirt performaning like he was before we got injured as that would be fantastic, but like you said; will he ever be back to that level? Just imagine our left side with both fit and on form Kelly Youga and Kyel Reid. The best in League One surely? (Going forward that is)

But whatever is best for the club in the long term both financially and on the playing side of things is what has to be done, whether fans agree or not.
  • I watched Jacko closely last week because I agree he is not a natural LB.

I did feel he was competent defensively , but can't wait to see him as a CM because I think he could be what we need there. At this level I think he could be outstanding in this position. As a player he would thrive in the CCC and I think we are lucky to have him .

Our left side with Youga LB Reid LW and Jackson in LCM would be outstanding.

If Youga isn't coming back then I would welcome Borrowdale. I haven't yet seen Fry but he has said himself he would prefer to be a CB.
  • [cite]Posted By: dabos[/cite] he could score an own goal 1 minute then the next go on an unbelievable run, taking it round their entire team, before calmly firing the ball into the upper tier of the North Stand. I certainly hope to see Youga doing that again in a Charlton shirt (although perhaps without the own goal).

He is an entertaining player certainly, I always enjoy watching him play!
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite][quote][cite]Posted By: Chris_from_Sidcup[/cite][quote][cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]Jackson is clearly a far superior full back to Youga, me thinks it's time to say goodbye to Kelly.[/quote]

Really? I'd have said the opposite. Youga was performing brilliantly for us before his injury, whereas Jackson just looks like someone covering at LB.[/quote]

Found his level at L1 more like I would say was truly woeful in the Championship for two years running. Not a great defender & no loss, also hugely overpaid relative to rest of squad/team.[/quote]

My recollection is that Youga proved himself with Scunthorpe at Championship level, did ok with us and then went down hill.

I wasn't at the EGM, I've only said what I've seen on CAFC Player, which anyone can sign up to and watch.
  • It would be great to get Youga back. I am glad though that they are not rushing him as, it would no good for him to be brought back too soon and get injured. With Kelly, Jackson and Reid that would be the best left side, we have had in quite a while.

I just hope that Kelly appreciates the club support with his injury, and accepts a new contract on the terms we can afford at League one, for a year, say. It would be enough of a contract for us to get a resale so we can recoup some of the wages whilst he's injured.

Kelly Youga is a popular player, I hope he stays, and if the contract is sorted out sensibly he would be a legend.

[cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]I think we should just forget about him to be honest. I said 6 months ago I doubt we will see him feature again, and if he does it will be for a very short term period.

He is one of those earning 3 times as much as the core group, will either stay permemantly injured until we pay him off, or will be offloaded as soon as he shows clear signs he is injury free.

Starting to look another disaster story to me.

Looking more and more like it.

It is with great sadness etc, but I agree.
  • If that is the case then we need to sort out cover for the left back berth. I know Fry prefers centre back but I think playing Solly there would be a really big mistake. Not good for Solly's confidence or the team in general. Basey is a bit slow, which is why I guess, he wasn't persuaded to stay.
  • Jacko is a better CM than Racon

Racon seldom delivers anything and goes missing too often - or has a huff and waves his arms around

Provided LB is sorted (ie Fry or Youga fit) I see Jacko in the middle and Racon dropped

  • Youga won't play for us again, would probably be better all round to pay his contract up (or come to an agreement ala Mooto) and get cheaper cover in, unless they think we're fine with Jackson and Fry (which I personally do)

I've never been totally convinced by Youga, always a bit of a liability I feel and for a player like him to be one of our top earners really does show how times have changed.
  • From the OS:

Youga has been out of action since last November after injuring his knee against Bristol Rovers at The Valley.

However, after a couple of aborted comebacks, Parkinson is expecting to see the flying Frenchman return to his squad in the near future.

"Kelly has been training with the youth team this week,” Parkinson told the media. "He trained with the young pros on Thursday and he might join in with the first team next week. Running-wise, he's come on really well. He's such an athlete that he's progressed really quickly. Hopefully, it won't take too long.”
  • Come on crab man
  • Getting him back at any point this season will real be a real bonus, whenever that time comes.
  • [cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite] He's such an athlete that he's progressed really quickly.

I'd hate to see how long his comeback would've taken if he was a little out of shape then?!

    If you say so Phil.

Hmmm parky sneaking on here again henners we got his number

    Callumcafc indeed ;-)
  • Just been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Will we ever see him again?
  • Nope

  • I imagine he'll go back to France end of the year seeing as we're not going to offer anything like what he's earning here.

Bye bye Kelly, it was fun when you could play!
  • He will never play for us again.

His career may be in doubt aswell, will be nearly 2 years without a game by the time he gets back.
  • half a dozen decent games and a lot more shit games .....
but became a better player in his abscence due to the straw clutching of fans ................

    shame for the fella
and are we shit sorting out injuries or just unlucky
  • Shame but never saw what some saw in him to be honest, agree he may well be offerd a contract termination. Wil need cover as i dont see jj as a natural lb compared to borowdale we had last term.

A month ago we were told: ''He's such an athlete that he's progressed really quickly. Hopefully, it won't take too long.”

I ddn't really believe it, on the boy who cried wolf principle.

But as Oohaah hints at, we do seem to have more of these out-for-a-season-or-two-never-see-them-again injuries than most clubs.

Or is just that one takes more notice of our injuries and every club has its share of Corey Gibbs/Todorov/Kelly Youga type stories?
  • [cite]Posted By: incorruptible addick[/cite]Or is just that one takes more notice of our injuries and every club has its share of Corey Gibbs/Todorov/Kelly Youga type stories?

I think every club has them, we just aren't able to recall every single retired player over the last five years for every club in the country!
  • Chondral defects are problematic and whilst some may be fortunate to recover fully during the acute phase, a chronic condition caused by persistent rubbing of bone on bone and and/or fragments dislodging is not uncommon, but they are not necessarily easy to detect until the surrounding bone shows damage. Happened to my son who can never play football again. Really sad news for Kelly and us. Think this one is a genuine bad luck scenario rather than any reflection on the way in which the club deals with injuries.

It would be interesting to hear John Boy, Budgie, Sparrows Lane Lion etc on this topic.

My guess is that probably they do. Also Corey Gibbs did in the end recover, as American Addick reminds us, while Todorov was done by that animal Timar who played against us last Sat. I think the most questionable injury related signing of recent years is Gary Rowett - I think Curbs may have disregarded medical advice there, although I may have put that too strongly.

I dont know what this condition is, but I think it is just bad luck and its hard to see what else Youga or the club could have done, especially as we can no longer spend as much as we did on medical fees.

Its a loss. I think having him back would have been a major bonus.
