After some fans started singing "...take off Shelvey" to the C-A-F-C chant, they quite rightly received a shed load of abuse from all the fans around them. One person accused them of being, "like a cancer", which I'd go along with. Absolutely disgraceful chanting which only reveals the level of ignorance of those singing.
I hate people that boo our own players, bloody stupid thing to do. It wasn't as if Shelvey was playing that badly or infact, any worse than some of our other players so why single the lad out? Idiocy.
When you consider some of the dross we have seen for the last few years, players in a team with only two defeats to their name, winning well and winnning ugly do not deserve the stick some fans have for them. there are to many fans expecting premiership quality against 3rd division opposition, forgetting we have dropped two divisions and are playing at the level we deserve with players of that calibre, albeit at the top level of that. There will always be a level of disquiet over a misplaced pass, stupid run etc,. but that should be acompanied by reasonable responses not the rubbuish that is being spouted. Shelvey hit the post and positively contributed ffs.
I wonder if other clubs have this type of 'fan'? Probably the same fools who were calling radio shows to moan about Curbs back in the day. Not sure what they want. I used to think it was the new supporters we picked up on the back of the play-off game, but didn't think they'd stick around for Div 3 football. You expect a few miserable idiots in a large crowd but we seem to have more than most. Odd.
Should sit where I do - I didn't hear any Shelvey bashing. Amazed that anyone would do this...I was annoyed when he was ytaken off as he is one of our main goal threats (along with Bailey & Burton).
He replaced Omozusi so there was no natural whipping boy on the pitch ; - (
East Stand was quite supportive. Some loud guys backing the team and players in an exec box.
As for what do fans know about football in the second half they was a frantic Charlton attack, Sam shot and the ball was blocked at close range by the hands of a Pools player. "Handball!" shout a few before it was pointed out that the blocker was their keeper.
I personally thought he had a poor game, I will never boo any of our players and I have no idea why some idiots were booing last night. I will probably get abuse for this as well but I think certain comments here about him being the best player at the club are well wide of the mark, highest potential, yes but as for the finished article I think he is a bit off that yet. Saying that however I would still have him in the side than not and I am sure he will go on to be a very good player, didn't play well last night but as people have mentioned was probably just tired after Saturdays exploits.
I dont think you will get abuse for that Colt. I dont think Shelvey is the best player at the club either. Bailey is. Jonjo certainly does have the potential though.
The group of fans booing him and singing "take off Shelvey" are a cancer and are exactly what we don't need in games like last night (of which there will be many more in the run in).

Ridiculous, can't understand what they expect from him. He's going to make mistakes but they all do, especially all did last night.

Probably the same idiots that gave Kish stick back in the Prem days.

Was a small group in H block. They got an earful just after, lookin at them most seemed to be about 17 themselves. Idiots
[cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]The group in J block are at it week in week out.
I was in J block and barely heard them! although i was nearer the front upper, definatley need to stop it but it wont happen so no point going on about it you just get on with it!

Slag off anyone AFTER the Game".
I've lived by this since.....
we could quite easily boo our boys to a defeat, so we must take our impact as fans into account and get behind them.
(It's shocking how loud the away end was with 100 people in it, CAFC need to take the roof off to kill the atmosphere, this must impact on the teams that visit us. Half of them probably think they are at a home game).

I think that's fair. Bailey is surely a better player at this moment in time.
I have never chanted against one of our players, but yesterday I felt Shelvey made some mistakes where he is to big for his own boots. He tried taking people on when it was 1-1 and making like he can do everything where he could of made a couple of simple passes. Some times he needs to realise he is not the best player on the team and cant do everything by himself and then he will become a great player! I agree with Parkys decision of taking him off when he did.

I understand what you are saying, but I feel the route cause of Shelvey getting caught in possession a couple of times, was because he was playing on the left, out of position.
Basically, because he is right footed, he was cutting inside to get the ball onto his right foot and that was when the Hartlepool players caught him up and took the ball off of him.
NB I don't blame Shelvey or Parky.
Parky wanted to get in Puncheon at the start of the season and it didn't happen due to the possibility of a take over.
Consequently, he played Bailey on the left, although we all know he is better in the middle.
Racon refused to play on the left.
Wagstaff, is not quite ready (possibly) to play every week on the left and in any case I think Waggy is right footed.
Therefore, Parky is changing who plays at left midfield in order to accomodate, who he feels is best for the individual game and who deserves the chance, rather than permanently sidelining Shelvey, Waggy or whoever.
Shelvey is 17, he is still learning and will be for a number of years. He has undoubted class. A lot more class than the individuals who booed him, who have none.
Any players that get any stick, should be shouted down, because we have got our Charlton back. All these players are giving their all every game and that is all that I ask.

Yeah, of course .... you have to support your own team!
Surely that's what going to football is all about .... ?
"Probably the same idiots that gave Kish stick back in the Prem days"
I'm really interested whether all fans are the same as "us lot" - getting on players backs after 15 mins if things aren't going well, really going for abusing and almost 'wanting players to mess up' (Grant, Kish, Hughes, any new striker who doesn't immediately score a hat-trick etc) while certain players in the same games who did/do mess up regularly and didn't/don't always give their all (HH, Thomas, Racon, Sodje) get no stick at all by comparison.
It just seems so tense sometimes at The Valley like some fans are almost 'wanting' things to go badly. It no doubt affects the players, and the huge collective sigh when a pass is misplaced early on in a game (coupled with a louder away support) must be pretty uninspiring and unpleasant. It's a shame when we get such good attendances compared to other clubs, too. Maybe it's about quality, not quantity?

See this is what I disagree with.
Whether JJ had a good, bad or average game is a matter of opinion and a fair topic of debate.
Deciding that he, or any other player is "too big for his own boots" from watching him play is just baseless speculation and guess work.
Jonjo himself, too big for his boots your talking out your arse, poor game Tuesday yep you bet ya along with every other player on show bar Waggy
if i hear anyone booing him near me make sure your ready for a heated debate cos i will be right in your face and you wont like it, moan about him gripe to your pals all fair and that is what it is about opinions when you start imposing your opinions on me and i dont agree with it it i will impose mine on you
I'm afraid it comes with the hype - certain people, when told something/someone is great, will the go out of their way to highlight every flaw they can or take saome kind of twisted pleasure in taking the 'alternative view'.
Tbh, I think anyone who thinks it's fair to boo any of our players right now wants banning from the Valley.
Comments
I still rate him as on his day he can control the team, and pitch.

It's clear that the money has gone to his head.
And only last week he pushed in ahead of Grant Basey in the queue for lunch and nicked the last bacon sarnie.
Get rid.
