jonjo shelvey

edited January 2010 in General Charlton
why do certain supporters keep aving a go at the lad the boy is a talent and people should get off his back personally i dont feel we are using him properly last nite ok he got caught with the ball a couple of times but for f---s sake nobody evers shows for the ball most of our players seem to hide, nobody says anything about his backheel to mooney for our 1st goal or about his shot that hit the post , we should encourage the lad not dig him out ,we should remember he is still young and i feel given the chance he will have a big role to play in our promotion push.

  • About the stick he got last night. I dont mind if certain people want to have ago when hes playing badly but when drawing 1-1 in a game we clearly should win booing is not going to help anyone hense i started a Jonjo Shelvey chant last night as soon as i herd boos coming from others in the covered end.
  • I think hes mustard and it is a sign of how far this club has changed that the top talent in the club at just 17yes old is getting stick....

and all of you dolling it can F&*( OFF! as far as im concerned......

start recognising what it is to SUPPORT a club instead of trying to knock a 17yrs confidence......

we dont want you here, you are not welcome... F*&( OFF!!!

    thanks
  • I agree he is our best player by far and will prove it. The idiots booing were slating everyone out there last night, ok, not our best performance, but ffs, we won.
  • Anyone who booed him obviously doesn’t go away because he was excellent against Wycombe. I think he looked a bit tired last night (he’s 17 and gave his all just two days earlier on a poor pitch) but he’s so talented that it only takes a second for him to create something. And what’s the alternative ?
  • Exactally creepy hense me and the guys i was with and around me started the usual jonjo Shelvey chant.
  • Not many times i come away from a game pissed off with some of our ''supporters''
  • pantomime fans...f**k em.
  • I couldn't believe what I was hearing last night, people giving a 17 year old kid dogs abuse for trying his fecking hardest.
In the end I couldn't take anymore and managed to make eye contact with one of the blokes and told him exactly what I thought about it.

I wish people like that would just f**k off and not come back. Absolute scum!

yup, that says it for me
  • They probably weren't at the game on Saturday when him and Bailey were our best two players by a long way - and it co-incided with him and Bailey being able to swap about and play left mid / centre midfield at different times.

  • Last night was a strange one. He didn't have his best game and his head looked to be dropping at times - thats when we need someone to put an arm around his shoulder and gee him up. Sadly I don't think anyone did that.

I think he showed what he is last night - a 17 year old boy who is incredibly talented but it just wasn't coming off last night. A few moments of magic but too many times caught in posession. He seemed to not know where he was playing and for that I blame Parky. Sadly he is not a Left Mid but he is not strong enough to play in the middle of a 442 when Bailey and Semedo are in there.
He is better suited to the 451 but that's not the way we play at the moment.

One thing I will say is "Jonjo - play the simple ball" - he does try the hollywood ball a lot (something his idol Gerrard is guilty of) and when it comes off it looks great but when we are struggling we just need to keep the ball and play it simple. Your time will come and you will go a very long way in this game - just keep doing what you are doing and the rest will take care of itself

When I saw the Wycombe goals on TV I was delighted to see his reaction to Bailey's goal - it was emotion and pure joy at a Charlton goal - that shows he is comitted to the cause and I love seeing our players react like this.

As an aside - It also goes to show what a superb job Grant Basey has been doing as he is pretty much covering the ground of two players - he gets slated for getting caught out but you can see he is told to bomb on and if he is not getting covered sufficiently then it makes him look bad!
  • Anyone who booed him last night should be f*cking ashamed of themselves this morning and not bother turning up to the Valley again. We don't need fans like you. I was absolutely amazed to hear that last night. C*nts.
  • I think part of the trouble was there was absolutely NO movement when he was on the ball, which meant he had to keep hold of it and create something out of nothing.

Sometimes this worked, sometimes it didn't.
  • He is such a great talent technically, i just feel it's his lack of discipline which makes it hard for parkinson to play him where he'd want to. When shelvey plays he is usually given a free role, and when he plays there the team seem to lose alot of shape. Thought he had a great game against wycombe and really showed his class. I hope we can hold onto him for a few more seasons.

yup, that says it for me[/quote]

all fans get the arse with certain players i for one get the arse with Llera but jonjo is a lot more talented than Llera i dont boo Llera though im not the booing kind but sometimes we all voice our displeasure in our own way, just dont like it being done to our young talented players .
  • If we are going to give anyone stick after last night i will say one name MIGUEL LlERA another shocker. Also i saw last night Richardson can throw the ball alsomt half the length of the pitch the new Rory Delap maybe :-).
  • I love the lad. Hope he matures into a Charlton ledge...but if people are gonna dig him out when he's just a 17 year old learning his trade, then i fear when/if he moves onto bigger and better things than Charlton Athletic, he's gonna dislike the fans because of a select few arseholes. He must be able to hear the boo's and comments thrown at him last night. Frank Lampard and West Ham springs to mind. maybe im looking to deeply into it cos it pissed me off so much.

agree with that. Some of our fans do like a moan it is pretty boring.

We won, we're 3rd, we've lost twice all season, why do you want to give anyone stick?
  • Absolutely agree, as much as i felt he had a poor game last night people do need to lay off him! i know we cant make the excuse he is 17/18 all the time but seriously he is a huge talent and not his fault that he cant play his favourate role as Bailey & Semedo are so consistent

  • he also did not go hiding when he made a view mistakes and also did make a couple of nice passes.

Well some of our fans as we keep saying are just moaners and nothing will ever be right for them therefore if they are going to have ago at any one i think it should be him.
  • We have some real twats watching us. I thought with a small crowd that that element wouldn't be in attendance. Sadly I was wrong.

They seem pissed off when we win!
  • Our so called fans who were booing jonjo should be ashamed of themselves. He's only a youngster with a lot to learn, o.k he has good day's and bad day's but I personally would like to see him still with us for some time to come learning his trade with us before he moves on.
  • guy behind us left at 65-70 mins - again. winged the whole time he was in his seat and shouted " you're not in the playground now " when shelvey lost the ball.
    idiot.
  • I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that last night. It seemed like they were just waiting for him to make his first mistake so that they could start booing him. The guy is a class above most other players in this division and never hides, he always wants the ball. These idiots clearly know nothing about the game and should go and watch netball instead. Ignore them Jonjo, they're not true Charlton fans.
  • makes me ashamed
  • Do do do do, Jonjo Shelvey, do do do do

That seems to be true of quite a few Charlton 'fans'. Not just regarding Shelvey last night but they're happier when we're not doing well so they can moan a bit more. Bloke a couple of rows in front of me doesn't even stand up or cheer when we score. Why bother going?
  • We all agree he's going to be a big star, hopefully with Charlton. I have been thinking that perhaps the early performances which were superb, has placed an expectation on him with some fans that is unrealistic bearing in mind his age and experience. The guy is only 17, it takes time to consistently perform at the level he’s capable of and once he does a Charlton legend he will become (if he stays long enough, fingers crossed). I’ll be honest and admit that last night was not his best and I was frustrated, but only because of what we know he can and will do when ready. I rate Shelvey and can’t wait for his time, it will be fun to watch.
