Jason Bourne - I enjoyed this addition to the Bourne series. The Deep Dream plot was a bit weak but that aside it is still a decent action movie.

Got any idea why the head of the CIA decided he needed to be on stage with the head of Deep Dream? What was that about?
Spoiler alert - I believe it was because he scheduled to speak alongside Riz Ahmed's character and also to make sure he wasn't going to to say anything to incriminate The CIA director because he helped him to succeed with Deep Dream.
Which begs the question, if the head of the CIA is running a super-shady deal with someone in the public eye (and saying out loud earlier in the film that they shouldn't be seen together), standing on a stage with him in public (the public has no reason whatsoever to associate the two men together) seems a bit counter productive. Especially as it wasn't his presence that stopped any incriminating statements, but the ludicrously cliched assassination plan!

Jason Bourne was a badly, badly, badly written movie, and I hope it hasn't killed one of my favourite franchises!
Exactly. My least favourite of the Bourne films ( I refuse to watch the one with Jeremy Renner ) and it felt like a greatest hits of the other Bourne films. The plot was flimsy at best and I got the impression that Greengrass wasn't really on form but an out of form Greengrass still beats some of the CGI infested crap that gets made these days. Not going to blow the Greengrass trumpet too loudly because he is a fan of the stripey ones.
  • I came out of the last Bourne movie with more respect for the Renner movie. It at least tried to expand on the world, rather than repeat the cliches over and over again. It's a perfectly decent film, it just ends at point when you're expecting the final act to start!

I just saw a beach-based movie based on a popular 90s TV show featuring lots of slow-motion running in bathing suits (reviews are embargoed for another week so have to be subtle here).

It's not funny/ silly enough to be a committed spoof, and it's not smart enough to be 21 Jump Street. They hint at character arcs but forget about them for the most part. A really charismatic cast and occasional great joke pretty much saves it from disaster. That and the fact that there's so much to... see.

Also, the soundtrack is a major wind up. There's ill-fitting music over EVERY SINGLE SCENE.

Fun, not a disaster, but really not funny enough to be memorable.

    2.5/5

    Deleted....
  • There's a new Tupac film coming out and the likeness of the main characters is spot on -
    https://youtu.be/njnwYSybwko
  • Ghost in the Shell. I had higher expectations for this one, but despite being a bit of a Scarlett fan, she was dreadfully wooden in this film.....awful dialogue, only saved by the ott cgi and a reasonable soundtrack. 4/10
  • A Dogs purpose. Being the owner of two myself, I thought this would be a tear jerker ala "Old Yeller" but despite being pretty good it somehow missed the mark for me...cant put my finger on why really....maybe the narration? A few funny bits, one particular sad bit but overall very average. 5/10

I was trying to avoid naming it for embargo reasons!

  • Saw alien convenant last week thought it was okay. King Arthur this weekend and the reviews have not been kind

Lock Stock & Snatch are of a much better standard than anything thats followed.
I really enjoyed the 2 Sherlock Holmes films he did.

I cried during the Police bit, and during boss dogs end. So that for me was two sad bits. The narration I agree was offputting at times, however I think they were going for a look who's talking vibe.

    King Arthur
Go into prepared for it to be a typical Guy Ritchie film and you will not be disappointed.

Charlie Hunnam however was average at best, he literally hasn't changed at all since SoA and his acting even felt the same. His english/irish/american accent kept coming and going.

Through all of it's faults I liked it.

Placed alongside Snatch, Lockstock, Rock 'n' Rolla and Revolver it is watchable and entertaining in parts.

It was no Sherlock Holmes, however the CGI would certainly rival that... A few too many CGI fight scenes to be honest.

    6/10

Yes, Dazzler, that's exactly what they do. And have done to me before (admittedly on a different site). Not naming the film makes it impossible for it to come up in searches.
  • Wow that's somewhat brutal! Quick HIDE!

Sorry I didn't know it could be that serious. I just edited my post.
  • Thanks Jessie! Safest thing is for me to not say anything, just figured you guys might be interested, particularly on a film that has such amazing... assets.
  • Not new but watched Suicide Squad last night. Awful film
  • Not new but watched Suicide Squad last night. Awful film

I can't bring myself to watch it
  • I watched it for work, then tried to re-watch it to see if I'd been harsh. I couldn't get past the first 20 mins. It's so bad it's almost unbelievable.
  • Not new but watched Suicide Squad last night. Awful film

See past the shitness of the film and you have Margot Robbie dressed as a cheerleader.....sigh.......

  • Not new but watched Suicide Squad last night. Awful film

Think its target audience was U15's and people who eat Pot Noodles
  • Watched Logan last night, a lot darker and more violent than i expected but that made it a better film for me.
Enjoyed Patrick Stewart and the young girl's performances and overall thought it brought Logan's story to a close well.
  • Watched Alien covenant, bit slow for the first 25 minutes, its all right , not brilliant or groundbreaking , I never saw Prometheus, so can't compare, but loved the old alien films ,thought Fassbender was good.
  • Dogs Purpose - took the nieces expecting to spend 2hrs scrawling Charlton Life. How wrong i was - really enjoyed it and quite sad in parts but then I am a dog lover.
  • King Arthur

Wow oh wow, walked out after 60 minutes, can see this ending up as a £3 DVD in front of a supermarkets counter pretty quickly!

Was David Beckham's cameo as brilliant and award winning as the reviews said it was?

Re. King Arthur - I don't know why anyone wants to hire Charlie Hunnam. He's such a no-mark. When I saw Pacific Rim I got him mixed up with two other characters. I was so confused when he got into a punch up with himself. Edit - bad typing

Every film he's been in he's stunk up the screen. Green Street being the worst by far . Having said that he's really good in The TV show , Sons of Anarchy.
  • I saw King Arthur last week, not as bad as its been made out but he has tried to use the same sort of stuff from Lock Stock and apply it to a medieval setting so can see why its failed. David Beckhams cameo he may as well have been playing himself very odd and should have been left out. I recognised a lot of the faces so it was a job for the boys sort of thing.

Pirates of the Caribean tonight we shall see how that goes

I can't decide how I felt about it, good to see the proper Alien tearing about but it was maybe a little boring/predictable and bit too 'remake-y'. Absolute CGI-fest (much prefer a good model set) and it became a bit of The Michael Fassbender Show for a long while. Also think it was a missed opportunity not to make the foreign planet any different to Earth at all.

I actually loved Prometheus but think it got panned for having too many plot-holes (which I must have missed in the heat of the moment).
