Goal difference is +32 for Leeds, + 26 for Norwich and + 19 for Charlton. Norwich hardly concede goals at the moment. We do concede loads unfortunately.

  • The crucial time is April, till then we will all be close to each other and the head to heads v Norwich and Colchester will be crucial. My biggest concern is depth of our squad and whether we have the legs to last the full campaign. I don't think we have a bottle problem, given the fight to coke back from 2 goals down v Millwall and two men down v Swindon. With regard to tactics, i don't think Parkinson is any more naive than most third division managers and is better than most.
  • utter bull**** the lot, as others have states we have scored one of the most in this league & concedded less then narwich. just cos they got better goal difference then us doesnt mean they concede less? although obvious we score less. still all is in the past and if we play to what we were at the beginning of season we will be tough side to beat for the automatic promotion spot. We will do narwich at home anyways, so pick up points there :-)

I'd really hate to be in the pub with the person who started this thread, bet he's a happy fellow!
  • It does when we've conceded 27 and they've conceded 28!
  • [cite]Posted By: johnnybev1987[/cite]although obvious we score less

We've scored 16 goal in our last 5 home games - nothing wrong with that, is there?
And we haven't lost away for more than 10 weeks.

Don't forget, Norwich's goals conceded column will be heavily marked by their 7-1 home defeat by Lisbie inspired Colchester in their first match of the season.

Now what have I said? ....... cue all the Gloomsters who'll now point out that Norwich must be better far better than they actually are!

yeah i agree with you mate, i didnt mean that as a negative that we have scored less. just thought the 'half glass empty' would come back with that

very good points oggy .... for a change :-P

I'm a really happy fellow, old chap and great fun to be with in "the pub" but I'm also a realist and I've seen it all before, many times with Charlton and I don't have any faith in Parkinson.

Fair enough, yeah probably not fair to assume based on one thread really! sorry about that, we are all entitled to an opinion and it has certainly got a talking point amongst us

and i would still have a drink with you in the pub ;-)
  • Anytime, I'll have a lager!

lol didnt say i was paying! but still if both going charlton wouldnt say no
  • On current form you'd have to say that Norwich look good for promotion however that can easily change.
We may not score as many as them but our goals are shared around and we don't rely on one player. If Holt or Hoolahan get injured, Norwich may struggle a bit.
Or.....we might both slip up and let Colchester in to 2nd. No one knows but there's still almost half a season to go.

Exactly ...... after our winning our first 6 games in a row, we were certainies for the title let alone automatic promotion.

And when we first won promotion to the Prem, not conceding a goal in 11 games, including 2 play off games including 10 wins out of 11 and 8 wins on the trot - made it a very late surge to Wembley.

There's a lot of matches to be played, a lot of twists and turns, consistancies and inconsistancies by all teams involved - and the only certainty is that there is no such thing as certainty.
  • Dare I say it, what about Saints. They are on a good run and have a 30 goal striker as well. Not to mention the fact they have just spent over a million on a centre half. Stranger things have happened than them putting real pressure on the current four teams at the top

Correction. The only certainty is that Stockport will be relegated.

Too far back for automatic promotion. They won't make up 20 points on us and 23 on Norwich in half a season.

However i do think they'll make the play offs and if they don't go up this year will be huge favourites for the title next season.

I agree with Chris and think they will be favourites to win the play offs, with their semi final being between them and 3rd place - us or Norwich. How come they have just come out of admin and they can spend all that cash, did they pay off their debtsor did the small guys have to take a pence in the pound deal?
  • Agreed, Saints are too far back for the automatic spots but could well make the play-offs and they'll be tough opposition if they do. Could also have a big say in who gets the automatics as they'll be one of the sides any one of the top 4 could drop points against.

Don't rule out Pardew's signings upsetting the Applecart though - we were going along quite nicely around Xmas 2007 and the January transfer dealings (admittedly outs as well as ins) pretty much screwed up any chance we had, who's to say it won't happen at Saints.

Southampton have truly hit 'promotion form' in the last dozen or so games - but surely too late for them, as you say.

But my money's on them not only to make the play offs, but to win them.
  • This is why amongst other reasons why the play offs scare the sh** out of me, Saints will be faves and I would not bet against them going up, at the expense of ourselves.

That would be too much to bear from that grinning buffoon Pardew.

Top 2 .....or bust then. No choice.
  • Not that losing to anyone in the play offs would be nice but to Saints or Millwall would be horrid. Parky would add Colchester to that list after he left them

Looks like we've got sufficient motivation to make sure we finish top 2, then !
  • I thought this thread was meant to be about who we might sign this month?

Does anyone know if the loan "window" closes atthe same time as the transfer window?

And it's been said often enough on this forum what a Sh** Manager Pardoo is. So Saints must have no chance :-)

Perhaps, Pardew has learned a little since leaving Charlton?

Maybe that explains why he never tried to sign Moo2 and McLeod, for a combined £1.5 million.
He knew they were available - yet never even made an offer ....!!

    Pardew let us down again!

    ;o)
  • Does anyone know if the loan "window" closes atthe same time as the transfer window?[/quote]

I think the loan window opens again a couple of days after the main one shuts, it then remains open till the end of March I think.

Oggy, that Pardoo really is a total barsteward leaving us with those nice little time bombs. Perhaps not so daft!
