My mum knows Seb through away travel, he's not missed a game for years - pre-season, league, cup and maybe reserve as well! Only one I'm not sure about is the China tour - Vince could confirm that one though.

We saw him at Forrest Green pre-season, drove past him on the way up the hill from the station - nowhere to stop to pick him up so just drove by, felt bad but it didn't take him too long to get up there!

He's a legend of a supporter - not many could match his attendance record over the past few years!

    Who, Rick Everitt?

[cite]Posted By: Simonsen[/cite]So, veterans of 80's away travel....what ever happened to any of these?

    Dennis (Burgess?)
His mate who looked like one of the Marx Bros.
The bloke with grey beard who came away games on his motorbike.
The two great big (portly) blokes who may have been brothers.
Vince (heard he won the raffle!) Sure he belted Dennis once and always used to refer to me as "Grass" or "Brentford"
    Steve Dixon.
"The Man in Black" (always wore black leather strides)
"Dowman" (only a select few would recall him...including Richard Birch, Man in Black and Steve Dixon).
Mike...another motorbike man who was going to stand as a Conservative MP.
The fella who looked like an Italian who always wore a mac and a Charlton tie.
"Walthamstow Avenue" (George). He was the one who spotted Maurice Setters sitting on Wakefield station after a game at Huddersfield.

    What a bunch we were.

Brilliant, great memories. Norm certainly a legend. I used always try to stand near him because through those huge headphones you'd get constant latest score updates.

Who remembers the Scottish contigent as well? Dundee I think.

Ah 80s away travel. When you knew the face of every other Charlton fan and most of their names. Lewis coaches was the way to travel as the driver would always stop at the co-op in east Greenwich to ensure we had enough crates of beer to block the emergency exit/toilet with. Plus we would always arrive at our destination in time for a couple of hours in the pub. Brings back the memories.

Bunch of nutcases, used to travel down on the overnight coach to Sellout via Victoria...great bunch of lads, we used to drink with them in the Goathouse and met up with a few of them at many away games in the mid-late 80's.

Anyone remember the Giant Fella? He must have been 6'6" always wore a blue jacket and a flat cap....I even spotted him in the recently posted Bristol City crowd picture...Voice like a foghorn Black hair and a tash.....the other bloke I bumped into regularly was the dead spit of Alan Sugar complete with frizzy hair...used to wear a brown suede jacket most of the time and in the early nineties he used to bring his young son along to away games...Funny how you know the faces but not their names...I remember the Ken Bates bloke and his bike.....and scar face...the bloke who had his throat slit up north, came from Brighton if I remember rightly.

Goonerhater....The big Maltese/Italian with a flat cap...YES!!...looked like some sort of Mafia Don and had a tasche. Can picture him standing looking disconsolate in the corner at Grimsby just after Peter Mountford had been sent off and Trevor Whymark had cracked home their winner. Back in the days when we used to go 1-0 up in away games but never win (until Fulham....)

Man with ruddy face and tie is still around. Saw him at Uxbridge (Middx v Kent) but I don't talk to him after he told me (in a Birmingham pub) that he didn't rate Steve MacKenzie! The man's no judge.....

Ken Bates ! now there is a blast from the past.

Saw in the pub before Gillingham a bloke i haven't seen for years. Sure a few on here will know him, but we always knew him as "Mitchell Brother", big burly skinhead with a short fuse that used to go with his missus and end up having a row with someone every week.

Haven't seen Gordon Watson's Uncle John (always wore a posties jacket) and brother Darren for a few years now.

Still see the ruddy bloke with the carrier bag around occassionally.

Havent seen either John Cole or Mark Cook (or his sisters) for a good few years now.....last I heard John was a train driver...ex repro man...regulars at Shithouse and Trumpton and we used to take turns at driving to away games.....well some of us did ...lol

Lewis Coaches....glad the Man in Black is still aroundand even gladder that you use his correct title (given to him by me circa 1983/84). He used to tell us tales about his goalscoring prowess on a Sunday morning and of a trial he had at Peterborough. Knew he was called Richard and he used to travel on the train with me, Steve Dixon, Richard Birch, Dowman and a bloke from Rochester.

"Ken Bates" was christened "Sherriff of Nottingham" by one of my mates on account of his pointy, medieval like beard. He also had a serf-like companion called Alan Wellbelove who was a pipe maker (as in smoking type pipe). Apart from the motor-bike gear, seeing them together was like watching a scene straight from the 12th century.

AFKA, Darren Watson was working at Bluewater, pushing a trolley & cleaning areas ...although haven't seen him there for a few months.

Passed Uncle John in Floyd Rd before a home game this season. Looks just the same as ever.

Mick Walker unfortunately passed away several years back. BDL is the man to tell more about this legend from Gravesend, as I only knew him briefly. The charity quiz each March/April held by NWKA is in the name of the two brothers, Mick & Phil ie The Walker Trophy. Phil was our Treasurer & committee member until a couple of seasons back when he had to retire due to ill health.

Paul 'worked' both officialy and unofficialy for the club.
He used to be a minder for the Maltese mob up in Soho when they were active up there back in the 60's and 70's.
He borrowed a club mini bus to go to the dogs at Walthamstow some years back and it got nicked from the car park....Paulo got the tin tack as a result of this....he has had a few 'stress related' problems over the years...turns up every now and again....not sure if he's based over here or in Malta nowadays...an interesting character is our Paul (Paulo).
    Is mentioned in Lennies book.

    or Scots Willy from Eltham

He moved down to Southampton and one game down there, we bumped into their mob ... Willy was with them and as a result, on that day, nothing happened.
