  • [cite]Posted By: mascot88[/cite]I was thinking as was going to sleep(always worrying when your thinking about the charlton manager as you drift off) can Parkinson hack it at championship level, and for me we are frail in certain areas, and Im not sure if we have a team that would do well or even stay u in the championship..... but considering he inherited and then cultivated a bottom of the champ rubbish team with no confidence, got rid of all the losers and egos, got insome of the best free transfers the club has ever seen and has now got a really good core team, although fragile, and prone to the odd slip up...
Not an issue at the moment, long way to go and Parky knows we have a small squad now and if we go up we'd need to really strengthen the squad.
  • I said last week, when McLeod was being slated, that we had seen the best and worst of him in the Oldham game.
    Thought the same yesterday.
We had the poor touch, the poor control, the falling over and the diving.
We also looked massively more threatening with him in the side.
The difference was he got his goal and as it turned out the winning goal.
Now if he'd only done that last week.
I have to confess to having been sceptical that he would come good with us, if indeed he has; he sure isn't a "footballer". But then neither was Leaburn (and no i'm not comparing them).

Thought the ref was pants. We certainly never get a home banker do we?

Like everyone I thought it was a really good game. I thought we shaded it, just, but probably couldn't have complained had they got a draw.
Credit Parky for the team changes and tactics. Welcome back Jose.

Incidentally, did anybody else notice as they prepared the free kick for their goal; as our wall was lined up and in position the taker moved the ball back a yard or more?
I fully expected our wall to creep forward accordingly but they stayed in place which surely gave the taker a better chance to get it up and over?

  • The Sodje incident was basically him staring at us and our fans getting frustrated at it. He played for leeds so thats why we seem to dislike him, but he was just too good for us yesterday I think that might of frustrated our fans more. I can assure you been near enough the front row there was no racism chanted/shouted at him what so ever. Just the usual gestures and everything else.

The game it self was very good, I thought your pace across the wings killed us and you passed it about brilliantly. Excellent game to go watch, glad we didn't do the Oldham and put 11 men on the line, your by far the best team we have played yet but we was expecting it really. We were probably slightly unlucky not to come away with a point, and thought we deserved it to be 1-1 at half time as first half we were excellent, however second half your lot bossed it and to be honest it was a pleasure to watch in such a frustrating way, can see Charlton winning this league easily! We've been here since 2004 and in that time I've only seen Leicester who probably matched your performance.

Good to read some good stuff about us, great atmosphere down there, lovely stadium best I've been to yet!

Good luck for the season not as if you will need it!
  • Thanks for the post, Hudders Lad....... good to get an opinion from your perspective.
  • Always think its good to look at it from both sides!

Purchased my lad a little Charlton shirt yesterday as he was begging me! Looks like you lot have a new fan

I'm not sure whether that comes under "failing in your duties as a parent" or "conduct above and beyond the call of duty".

best game i've seen down there for a couple of years , really enjoyed it and really entertaining and exciting ..
sodje seemed more of a nuisance going forward than at the back , he got away with a couple of mistakes that if llera had made we'd have crucified him
spring looked ok but semedo deffo has a more solid look about him
izzy is clearly a mixture of scary pace good and bad touch i just think if he took lessons on how to kick a ball properly he would become a much better player ... his energy and enthusiasm and committment were absolutely top notch...
did anyone notice racon trying to create a wall of players while izzy was celebrating and sneak mcleod's shirt back on him b4 the ref would spot it but none of the other players were on the same wavelength as racon and they all jogged away leaving mcleod exposed for his booking
fair play to hudders for coming down and giving it a real go
  • Excellent game, but there were at least four Huddersfield players offside at the free-kick. If officials do not deem them to be interfering with play, we could have had players on the line. Thought their guy could have walked for the foul on Nicky Bailey. Was Spring in the game before he was subbed? McLeod, Sodje and Youga exellent, Well done Parky for 4-4-2 at home. The only downer for me was that we stopped playing it out from the back. Just because we only line up with four in midfield shouldn't stop Dailly bringing it out, as we have quality on the ball.

  • thanks for your input Hudders lad, always good to get an opposing view, and makes us realise we take a few things for granted when we see it every week. I would have highlighted our wing play as a weak point to be honest.

Your front two were different class, as was Pilkington, and i've not seen a side put the ball in the box so frequently, yet still felt they played football, if that makes sense.

I know its ugly, but christ what a throw that fella has. Makes Rory Delap look like a girls throw !
  • ''did anyone notice racon trying to create a wall of players while izzy was celebrating and sneak mcleod's shirt back on him b4 the ref would spot it'''

Yes, I noticed that, Oohaah. It was right in front of us in the NW quadrant. Not sure how good Racon's English is, but as he handed him back his shirt he appeared to say something along the lines of : ''Put yer ruddy top back on, yer daft beggar'' !
  • Pretty much echo everyone's thoughts, was a great game to watch. Football played as it should be from both sides. Complete contrast to last week coming away unbelievably frustrated. Huge win for us, for the players to come off the pitch to a chorus of 'we are top of the League' must be extremely morale boosting (if it needed boosting)

Cracking atmosphere, VFR in the 2nd half was the loudest i've heard for some time.

It's a long throw, but nowhere near as good as Delap's as the trajectory is too high. Sodje can deal with that all day long. Reminded me of Halford's throw (albeit with a few extra yards on it).

yet neither dealt comfortably with it ????

Good grief, oohaah, you've fallen for that line at long last ;-)

I can't recall a single long throw that we didn't deal with. Every one was headed away. Was about the only part of the attack that didn't cause any problems - their free kicks and corners were far more dangerous.
  • Sorry i was going by previous comments along the lines of we could have done better in the air but I wasnt there so i'll retract my comment from the press...
    ;o)

  • it was nice to see a team actually come to the valley and try and play a bit of football credit to them for that ,i do feel we still need to strengthen the squad i really feel we need a proven goalscorer ,but we did ok sodje and dailly looked good lets keeop it going.
  • Well done, took revenge for our drubbing the previous week. It was a shame I could not be there but I had to be in Exeter (at least I was not at Walsall). In speaking to people over the weekend the feeling is Huddersfield are amongst the better sides in league.

Unfortunately for us Walsall do not seem to be any great shakes, but still beat us

Exeter certainly made Charlton work hard for their win a few weeks ago.
    What's gone wrong?

Anyway, wish you all the best for the season.
  • I think people have found out we do not have much pace at the back.

However our target must be fifth from bottom. However I would really pleaed if charlton could finish in the top two, as my new new home, to watch championship football would be a treat. I would always be Exeter to the core but only two years ago I was watching Farsley Celtic (no disrespect intended what so ever). However, the standard of football and technical ability is just incredibly this year, I sit back and admire it. I am aware Charlton are at low ebb, in terms of standards of football , but hopefully this can be a turning point to get back to winning ways and then move upwards in the leagues.
  • dj-ecfc.... you are a gentleman and up the grecians
  • Dj - ecfc....... are you saying you're moving to live in/near Charlton?

If so, you'll have to make yourself known and muck in with some of our meet ups.
