  • Well done on your guests Henry. You certainly have some good contacts ! At NWKA , we seem to " stick" to players, and Club personnel not that they are unappreciated. It would be interesting to spread our net a bit further sometme in the future.....

Any tips would be welcome !

We have the slight advantage that so many Charlton people live in Bromley.

For ex-players try either the Former Players Association or Bernard Wickham. The beauty is that they are not on the ration like current players.

For Directors just ask them. I can contact them for you or you can just try the club direct. Derek Chappel grew up in Kent and I know he was keen to do a meeting down there sometime while Bob Whitehand lives in Kent.

For players or coaches just nag Rick and Wendy until they give in : - )
  • As well as being talented and sickeningly good looking, it now emerges that Scott Minto is a bloody nice, genuine bloke. Makes me sick. Thank gawd Lennie didn't let him get a word in edgeways !

and despite admitting that he does no exercise is still slimmer than a rake that has been on a diet.

I did like a certain lifers attempt to get him signed up for his five a side team. I think wages were a sticking point : - )

One can only try! It did surprise me that he doesn't play any kind of football or do any exercise any more.

Even more surprising was the fact he couldn't remember who scored the 1st goal back at The Valley (he thought it was Lee Power)
  • neither of them would make a CAFC quiz team. Lennie thought Mark Stuart got the winner at St Andrews in the play-off third game.

maybe just shows that players and coaches look at games in a different way to fans.
  • oh i've tried to whisper you FF but no luck. Bernard Wickham used to be v helpful and get all my ex players but he stepped down from the FPA. there is an email address Charltonfpa@ntlworld.com you could try that. See who's manning it these days.
  • Cracking night btw.

Especially enjoyed his comment about rather going to f*kin palace than stay at Bradford

Sue Copus and others look after the FPA now. Fanny/Curb-it I have Bernard's own email if you want it.
  • so is anyone going to give us an sight into some of the comments made ! please !

  • Sounds like you had a cracking evening. Well done to all involved. Wish I could have been there.

    As for Henry's comment:

''Lennie thought Mark Stuart got the winner at St Andrews in the play-off third game.maybe just shows that ... coaches look at games in a different way to fans. ..''

Do you think that could explain some of Dowie and Pardew's peculiar signings : they got confused with a completely different set of players and didn't really mean to sign Diawara, Pouso, Christensen etc. at all ? ;0)
  • Scott Minto's dad was there as well.

    No, it's because they're a pair of w*nkers
  • Thought Lennie was very interesting about England's World Cup hopes. Wish I could remember what he said.

Excellent night. I paid my subs to join even though I subsequently found that it wasn't obligatory, money well spent though I reckon.
  • I keep reading it was an excellent night.

Can someone help a brother out ...... or those exiled a million miles away, and tease us with some juicy titbits and highlights of the meeting, please ..... ?
  • Lennie :-

Leeds, Charlton or Norwich for automatic promotion.

He lives in Bromley and commutes to Brizzle.

His memory is worse than mine.

I guessed he had a book out after he mentioned it 20 times in the first 20 minutes.

    He's not lacking in confidence.

Mark Stuart scored the winner V Leeds at St Andrews (Don't think so Lenny)

There was more, it was interesting, but nothing massive to tell.

    Scott :-

Ist game back at Valley in his top 5 games of all time. Lee Power scoring the goal. Doh !
  • Thanks, Henry. We have a request in with Wendy for players in November but no new so far. Must chase her up...

We've been fortunate to have Peter Varney, Martin Simons and Parky in the past with no problems in obtaining their services. All good meetings.

Steve Waggott is coming to our pre AGM meetimng next Spring and bringing a Director with him so , bearing in mind Derek's interest , it may be him ( nothing like forward planning when you can ! )

One of my committee members is keen to have a Former Players' Night so might take you up on a contact there after our Quiz on Friday evening. Thanks again.
  • 'Steve Waggott is coming to our pre AGM meetimng next Spring and bringing a Director with him.'

    Prolly Peter Varney.
  • hopefully it wont be david white, he woudl send you to sleep.

    True.

He was trying to invite himself to a Bromley meeting but I managed to convince him no to come.

  • Lol, Henry.

Belatedly, thanks for the email addresses. Still no news from Wendy so at the minute we have no confirmed date nor guests for our next Q & A sometime in November....

We've not got confirmation for our December meeting either and that is only 7 or 8 weeks away now.
  • Looks like we're in the same boat, Henry. Hope it doesn't sink.

Sink! Why? Did you mention Celgers or Rantic : - )

Sure there will be someone eventually but it is frustrating to not be able to plan and promote meetings well in advance.
