I cant knock his effort, determination, blood and sweat for the shirt blah blah blah.

He just simply isnt good enough. And saying he is a THIRD DIVISION defender isnt a good enough excuse. He's supposed to be marking THIRD DIVISION strikers.
  • Last season we were making these sort of defensive mistakes regularly and conceding soft goals and losing games far too frequently. A year on and the number of careless defensive lapses has been starkly reduced. That doesn't excuse mistakes being made, but we must remember that all teams are going to make some now and again. As I said above, I'd have rested Llera for last night's game, why Parky didn't want to drop him who knows? Maybe Sodje isn't fit enough to start a game and last 90 minutes, or maybe he didn't want to disrupt a winning team.
  • So we lost a game!
So did others Huddersfield/MK Dons, Leeds only got a draw.
Christ we were the second to last team to lose a game this season in all 4 divisions.
We must not get on any players back or PP's for that just for losing our first game this year.
Its even more important for us to just shrug it off and get on with getting behind them all again.

    well said that person
  • Beat Dirty Leeds saturday, and we're back on top, sorted.
    FACT!
  • I actually felt sorry for Llera last night....that was without doubt as bad an individual performance as I've ever witnessed from a Charlton player, it got to the stage where I was genuinely embarrassed for him.
He had an absolute mare.......nowhere to hide poor chap, where does he go from here?
For those of you that didn't go, you just simply have to believe what I've just written....hate to say that about any Charlton player but it just had to be said.
  • totally agree soundas it was cringeworthy

Good enough for me......I would have taken him off at half time against Exeter...time to be brave PP and drop him for a game or two

  • Bad performance last night but I wopuldn't drop him.

Being in a defence which has only lost one game doesn't mean to make changes after one defeat imo.

I don't think anyone who was at the game could or would disagree with you so why did Parkinson send him back out for the 2nd half when he had Sodje sitting on the bench?

    That's the bit I don''t get?

Perhaps he thought if we could get back into the game and somehow walk away with a point then Llera could just put it down to a couple of first half errors, and his pride wouldnt be as affected. However Llera got even worse!!!

Dont shout me down, im only guessing!!

Man management I think simple as that.

Llera has been an integral part of a team that went 9 games without defeat. As a man manager Parky has to give his man an opportunity to make amends. When it became evident that wasn't going to happen he grasped the nettle and made the necessary substitution.

More pragmatically Sodje arrived unfit so how long is he capable of playing at the moment? that could also be a factor.
  • He was shit, but my god Rob Elliott needs to 1) open his mouth and call for things 2) not feel like he want to come and collect every cross
  • agree with the above, however in his (slight) defence, I did think he was doing o.k up against those 2 lumps until the own goal - after that he just seemed to 'lose it'

Someone else has posted that they clearly heard Elliot call for the ball(first goal)...can't confirm it myself as I was on the halfway line.
  • I was four rows back and heard nothing from either of them, Elliott looked sheepish as well after the event. The third was shocking decision making.

He's young and he'll learn, but I'll expect Leeds to dump the ball into the 6 yard box with bodies on Saturday
  • [cite]Posted By: LenGlover[/cite]Llera is a typical third division defender. There are times he will look suspect and vulnerable but against that he gives us much needed height, his commitment in playing with all those stitches in his head cannot be questioned and he has a sweet left foot.

Don't make him the new scapegoat he doesn't deserve it. Heis an honest THIRD DIVISION defender plying his trade and giving his best for the shirt.

    What they said.

Funny how some people forget Sodje has big weaknesses as well and like Llera isn't much more than a League One defender. Sodje might be a bit better, but not by a huge amount.
  • The error that he made although was appalling does happen (I remember Scott Minto doing something similar at Derby)

What was more worrying was how he went pieces after the goal happened. The only positive thing he contributed was a block on half time. Had we not taken him off he may have been sent off as he appeared to have lost the plot.

  • I know he went a bit pony but are we missing him for corners and set pieces as a goal scoring threat?

Sodje in my opinion is a better header of the ball, but if you don't get your CB's forward for corners/free-kicks into the box then they won't score. That was something we failed to do yesterday.
  • yeah yesterday might have been an opportunity to get him back in for a game, mind you wdnt have expected our goal to be under so much threat as it was.

Especially as I don't think Sodjie is this fantastic player that everyone seems to rave about. He can be a right donkey at times as well. How about the up and under that he put over the main stand and out of the ground yesterday, embarrasing!
  • He might have neutralised their big guy Bailey but we lost the match in midfield not at the back so an academic discussion in my view.

I don't see that either. He's a good defender at this level, back up in the Championship, but he's not too comfortable on the ball and makes silly mistakes at times like Llera does. Sodje gives us more pace than Llera, maybe we're missing Llera's passes out to Sam though...

What Len said, we lost that in midfield, defence weren't great but they were a lot better than the midfield. Llera wouldn't have changed that game much, we needed the midfield to get a hold of the game.

    .

Must be - because Sam doesnt understand the concept of running with the ball!
