  • [cite]Posted By: mart77[/cite]Would be cool if we could organise a similar event in the future and tie it in with a CL get together.
City Addicks is pretty much that I think.

We could get John Robinson to come.

There is a lot of scope for that.

Speaking to Wendy and Rick, who are trying to organise more of these sort of events. So far only Bromley Addicks and Maidstone CASC have given them any dates for guests.

So if you want a meeting in your area get in there.

Maybe a Christmas CL party / Q&A in Bartrams?? Could be a plan if people were interested.
  • Bromley hope to have Parky at our Xmas party.

Will he dress up as Father Christmas? ;0)

He was asked twice about his plan B (I think the second questioner must have arrived late) and said that the coaching team think all the time about different scenarios in games and what to do if certain players are unavailable. Eg Solly could step in for Semedo or JJ could drop back in the the middle with Burton playing behind McLeod.

what's with all this versatile type of player malarkey?

    Could you please define "have"

You'd have to pay the air fare to get him back from america first!
  • i reckon robinson would be very entertaining. not sure why no one hasn't tried to get him in the past.

I though he was at the front in the black shirt? Maybe it's his brother. They look the same.
  • Thanks for the comments from everyone that went. Some of it was what we already knew but still good to hear.

Interesting Solly might come in for Semedo, I know he's played there before, but wasn't sure they'd use him there in the first team. Does explain why at times Basey has been left out completely, as they are confident that Solly could play in a few positions, like Basey.
  • Is that Jones from Dads Army next to the ginger bird?

he's standing at the other end of the table - just a bit too close to it to be in view ;-)
  • Not me, i'm propping up the bar at the back.

Unless you're referring to Rodex of course !
  • Nice blog Chicago.
  • Quick comment as I'm sitting in a meeting, fot those who went to the Pardew Q and A did you.notice the difference?

Pardew was arrogant but still funny and I left having enjoyed the night.

Parky was focused, committed, talked sense and I left very confident the club has a good manager, whatever happens this season I'm confident we'l finish to the best level the squad can

  • Last night's question and answer session was the best one I've attended by far. I see that CAFC Player is to show an edited video of proceedings but I'm sure they won't show the juicy bits!

Kins didn't turn up but Parky explained this was decided in advance because Kins and AN Other will hold another Q&A session later this season to answer questions about player development.

To hear both Phil and Tim talk about the way they approach coaching and choosing potential players was a revelation; they only want players in the door who really want to play for Charlton, the League One club aiming for promotion, not the ex-Premier League club who might be able to offer players a massive package. Parky had an interview lined up with a player but didn't want to talk about money, just about the player's desire to play for us - the agent twice asked what we could offer his client, so the interview was cancelled! Parky said he told Richard Murray that those were the sort of players they'd been trying to get rid of all summer and thought they'd seen the back of.

Even when we lose a game, Parky and Tim want the fans to go away feeling the players gave their all for the badge. It might seem to someone reading this that they were just saying what the fans want to hear but Parky gave a candid explanation of what went wrong last year - overpaid players talking the talk but not walking the walk was only part of it but really hit home.

Parky didn't once complain even when one questioner said straight out that most of the people in the room hadn't wanted him to follow Pardew as manager last season. This man did follow up by saying that the majority would have changed their mind as a result of the fine way we'd started this year!

They talked about the work done on Burton's and Sam's fitness over the summer (and doesn't it show), I gather that both of them, definitely Burton, had to report to the training ground for 3 weeks extra training because their levels weren't high enough when the players all reported back.

Things have been really very difficult for Parky over the summer, he said that he'd had discussions with members of the first consortium who were due to take over and been told how much money he'd have available for players etc, then that deal fell through. Then he'd been prevented from buying Jason Puncheon by the next set of buyers because they'd told him he'd be able to afford better, to which he'd said that he wouldn't be able to find better. By the time things had been sorted out, the chance had gone. The only other thing he said about the current state of play re finances/takeover was that he'd been told categorically that he would not need to sell any players in January.

Tim seemed rather young, very keen and pleased to be with a "club like Charlton" - his father's poorly at the moment but is overjoyed his son's No 2 for us, being a staunch Addick! Both Phil and Tim had a real respect for the fans and I came away feeling really excited about the future, not just because of what they'd said but because it knitted so well with what we've seen on the pitch, the keenness of the players and the player-fan relationship that's already building up.

What position would we have been in if either of the takeovers had happened? You can't get higher than "top of the league, say, we are top of the league".

Good write up but you've got that slightly mixed up over the fitness. It was Sam who was asked to do the three weeks extra and willing agreed. And it wasn't that he wasn't fit when all the players reported it was that when he came in for one of the regular mid summer tests he only just passed and PP said he wanted more from him.

Burton was given a very rigorous fitness programme and stuck to it.

    OK, Mr pedant : - )
  • Thanks one and all.

Would definitely have gone, had it not been for the, "get the tickets after the Soton game (and then be caught behind the other 19,000 leaving)"

By the time they said you could e mail it was all getting a bit late and a bit of a kerfuffle :-)

there were loads of spare tickets and I think quite a few people just pitched up.

100 to 120 (my estimate) is actually OK for this sort of meeting given that it was announced with less than a weeks notice (not a good idea) and getting tickets wasn't made simple.

Greenwich and Bexley got 14 (fourteen) for their last meeting at the Valley despite supposedly having 800 members.

Thing is, Covered End, living in Bromley as you do you are rather spoilt by your local supporters' group : - )
  • True, I was thinking of just pitching up, but have a possible touch of swine flu (symptoms like others have described) and couldn't raise the energy, not knowing if it would be a wasted journey.
  • Great to read all this. Really great.

There must be a lot of us who feel a bit sheepish now about what we thought and said about Parky last season. I'm pleased to hold my hands up and admit to being one of them. Please accept my apologies, Mr Parkinson.
  • I'm beginning to think I'll have to change my name, as I'm starting to accept PP as our manager and after reading the comments here he sound's like a top man.
