I have been impressed with Burton. Yes he is scoring which is good, but his hold up play - team play in other words is excellent. What I like as well is some of the little comments to the youger players, calming them down or encouraging them. I'd say that he was enjoying his football at the moment and with the up's and downs of his career, that must make him feel pretty good.
''led zepp are hugely overated and responsible for most of what went wrong in rock music in the 70s. There you go Nigel : - ) ''
Thank you, sir. That wll do nicely as an example of outrageous, misconceived, ill-considered, badly-informed nonsense!!!
As for you, MOG, miserably agreeing with such a miserable opinon - well, I expected better. Are you trying to provoke steam (or maybe dry ice) to come out of my ears, perchance? : - )
Bit of an unfair comparison Burton is the finished article and at this level is more mobile and has the footballing nous many lack. Dicko has potential but at his stage should be producing it at 1st team level.

As Nelse suggests, Burton has huge experience, Dickson hasn't.
Experience can only be gained by actually playing.
But in anycase, they have different strengths in their own game.
[cite]Posted By: Chizz[/cite]Is he Charlton's best, post-Premiership signing?
Sorry i do rate him but Dailly will prove to be the best signing. I think his leadership is what has kept a very new defence in very good shape, yes they make a few mistakes but his reading of the game limits the damage these mistakes make.
If I remember, on his Charlton debut Magic got 'done' by Saha at OT with a dreadfull OTT tackle - in January.
He'd played pretty well and with confidence up until that point.
The injury kept him out until April. Remember him coming on as sub in the crucial relegation battle at home against Sheff Utd - and he played like a frightened rabbit caught in the headlamps.
Came on as sub late v Everton at Goodison, when after Darren Bent equalised, Everton scored that last-gasp winner.
It was Magic's ineffective half-clearance that was half-volleyed straight back for that goal.
He also started away at Liverpool in the last match of the season, played well enough - but with Charlton leading 2-1 going into the 90th minute, he inexplicably handled and gifted their equaliser from the spot.
After relegation to the CCC, I thought he was superb - providing he had a CB alongside that would attack the first ball.
Then he played like our version of Rio Ferdinand.
Resurected this thread because I wanted the efforts of Deon celebrated a bit more. This guy took a tremendous amount of stick when he first arrived but imho opinion has proved to be a very inteligent and hard working forward. Don`t think he will ever score you 20 goals a year but his contribution for us so far this season is beyond question. I really hope that Parky is able to hold onto Akpo because I really do think that the pairing of those two in the latter part of the season could be very fruitful. COYR
Credit where credit's due another excellent performance last night from Deon, but isn't this another player like many of ours this season that have maybe found their level?
Very Good League One player barely average Championship one?
Even watching the championship round up last night, you could clearly see a big difference between top of that division....
I think this team would struggle in the championship midtable..... I think wed stay up.... but we would defiantely need some serious strengthening (Wheres the arabs!!)
have to agree with Ketman - he got a lot of stick last season bcos he was out of his depth and offered no goal threat - still remember the two one-on-ones he missed from Shelvey passes in the first ten minutes at home to Forest
he's been excellent this season but definitely a case of finding his level IMO
I'd say that Burton is a proper professional who knows his way around a football pitch and his team mates appreciate this. I think that Parky relies on him quite heavily to handle the stuff that we don't see up in the stands and goes unnoticed. Has really come on as a Charlton player after a sceptical start and the way we play has become an integral part of the team in terms of hold up play and distribution. My player of the season so far.
[cite]Posted By: bexleyboy[/cite]No one has mentioned the two glaring misses last night...he does not win headers does not look interested half the time and is a lazy sos and so...never looks like scoring from open play and has no striker instinct at all..but you all praise him where i sit in lower North they can't wait to get rid......Mooney, Sodje are far better players and should start
"Does not win headers" - won countless last night
"Lazy" - never stopped running
"No striker instinct" - his shot was parried for Mooney's goal

Where to start?
Yes he misses chances just like all strikers.
Does not win headers? You must be joking! wins far more than he has any right to against CHs 6 inches taller than him.
Does not look interested and is a lazy so and so! Are you talking about the same player? Always working, always looking for the ball, always give the CH a nudge or a push. And he's not even 100% fit FFS
Never looks like scoring from open play - well apart from the 6 goals he's got from open play this season you mean.

last night the first goal came from a good shot of Burton's which the keeper could only parry into Mooney's path
the third came when Burton outjumped his maker (who was probably a foot taller than him) to flick on hopeful ball into the area to Mooney whose header hit the bar and led to Bailey's goal
only blemish for me was the chance near the end when Sam (?) fired across the box and Burton should have anticipated more at the far post - would have had an empty goal to tap into

Perhaps you should move from the lower north to somewhere with a better view. As the above responses suggest we have a player who works hard for the team and contributes a lot. As far as I'm concerned when he's fit he should start.
Have to admit, was not too optimistic about Burton being the number 10 this season and seemingly no1 striker, but he has been superb. Hold up play excellent, wins header and works so hard for the tea. 8 goals is also a good return bearing in mind his injury and the fact he was the lone striker till recently. Burton also showed a turn of pace at times last night. He was no Lloyd Sam but certainly not slow!!

You and your mates might think Burton is a waste of space ....... but have you ever thought of asking Parky and his team mates what they think of Burton's contribution to the team....?

You are quite right. I even saw him make his debut at Old Trafford so shouldn't have got that one wrong ; - )

Especially when he takes the pens and if he has another striker alongside him.

lol, Sco .....haha!
Does Grant Basey fall into that category?
No, not really .....he's pacy Basey now.
;o)
Does Grant Basey fall into that category?[/quote]
I'm talking more about players like Burton, Bailey, Richardson etc.
Llera and Basey are slower than them, I'd call them slow.
