The difference between the Wycombe attendance figure and today's was pretty much the difference in away support, although we sold a few less home tickets today.
I don't know how many were actually in the ground, but it's hardly surprising if 15-20 per cent of season ticket holders are away on holiday in August.
It just all looks so different lately. Semedo easily MOTM for me, Llera's headers so very well placed, set pieces much improved, lots of little inside jinks, working the dreaded triangles to help each other out, pointing where they want the ball, accurate passing through channels, some beautiful long passing. They anticipated each others moves and worked as a team. All on a day when we didn't really get into top gear but got the three points. Don't know who's been doing what, but I'm really enjoying watching and I got first prize in the Jackpot with my first ever ticket. Can afford more away games now so happy bunny here.
On the whole I didn't think we played well but we seemed to do just enough. I was impressed with the way the back four were operating compared to last season, good cover play although they didn't really have much to deal with. We seemed a bit limited going forward until Waggy came on, we looked a different side with all the options he provided. Before then we seemed intent ofn trying to get the ball down the wings, looking for a cross, but I was very impressed with Wagstaff's composure, passing, touch and control. He's come a long way. On the whole, we didn't get into second gear but deserved the goal in the end. Good play from a few players but my MOM: Wagstaff

congratulations on the win - Lower West block D by any chance?
Semedo MOM for me too. Thought he was brilliant throughout.
Easy win really and a bit of a non-event as a match in many respects but the move leading up to Wagstaff's goal was great and he took it brilliantly. It's been great to see some of the passing movements this season and their is a real togetherness developing on the pitch.
Must give credit to Parky - I've always liked the guy and it's nice to see he has been able to pull the team around.
Time will tell I guess whether we are real contenders - the lack of depth in the squad remains a worry. But, hey, 4 out of 4 and top of the league!
[quote][cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]In the end a comfortable routine victory. All post match thoughts and analysis here. I'll do a seperate one later for player ratings[/quote]
Mate the words routine and victory never, ever cross from a CAFC point of view!!!!!
Don't want to put a dampener on a great start to the season ... but the vultures are definately circling !!!...
Was in the Millenium Suite before the game, and there was a table set aside for scouts only ...
John Hollins and Clive Allen were there amongst others..
Spoke briefly with JH about Jonjo....his exact words were ... " very interesting prospect .. but what 17 year old would sign for a club knowing he wouldnt be playing football week in week out .... but who knows eh ? "
Also heard that Nicky Bailey is high on the agenda too - now Villa very much in the frame ..
Great to see Scott Wagstaff getting back the confidence that Pardew knocked out of him !
Good win. Semedo, Llera & Burton were all top drawer for me. What a great pass from Burton to Waggy for the second goal. That is typical of what a clever player he is and why he is so important for us.
I thought Shelvey was pooh today. Two or three times he made idiotic decisions - like shooting with four people around him when Bailey was in acres of space outside him, or trying a stupid little dummy in the area when he should have just f***ing hammered it. But then again, he is only 17 - I think everyone expects too much of him.
Racon and Semedo were the best players on the pitch by a mile. We would be absolutely, utterly fecked without them.
Wagstaff looked decent for the first time - not only the goal (which Sam would have dithered about then scuffed straight at the keeper) but his running at players and playing simple passes instead of trying to find the killer ball all the time. Still don't think he'll be a regular, but the goasl will give him a world of confidence and would love to be proved wrong.
Walsall were abject. If they're meant to be a mid-table side in this league then I have seriously underestmiated our finishing position this season, If we can keep hold of Bailey, Racon and Semedo and get a decent finisher and some cover at centre half in before the window closes we'll make the playoffs at least.
A great result and a reasonable performance. A bit low key; I think we'd need to play with more aggression to get a result against a lot of sides. I wonder how it might have gone if the Walsall goal had stood.
Agree about Semedo and Racon, they were a class apart. Wagstaff looked good - and best of all really keen. Getting a bit concerned with Shelvey though - he's not letting the hype go to his head is he? A couple of times he tried to do the spectacular when something simpler would have done better. A couple more times he just wasn't with it at all - totally ignoring a glorious knock on from Burton in the second half was the most glaring. But hey, we're top of the league, so who's complaining?
it's hard to be critical of a team that's won 4 on the spin, but an average performance today - did enough against the worst team I've seen in a long long while and never really looked in trouble to be honest,
thought Semedo was immense and MOM by a country mile - if there's a better CM pairing than him and Racon in this league then I'll be amazed.
Good sub taking Sam off who was pretty average today, anyone else see him refuse to shake either Parky's or Kinsella's hand as he went to sit in the dugout.
solid enough back 4 apart from Youga who is the one real weak link in it IMO, he's a disaster waiting to happen....
hopefully takeover goes though this week and we can sign some players, need 4 I think, centre half, striker, left back and a winger.
all in all - can't complain about maximum points, pretty glad they've got a week off now so that hopefully the few niggles some players have can clear up.
the season is 4 games old, we have won every single one of them....100% and top of the league....an excellent start, long may it continue. was at game and have no complaints, well worth the 2 hour drive there and back....cant do it all the time, but when i can a win is a happier journey home.dont see anything to be critical about other than depth of squad.....got a free weekend next weekend....might even take a lazy trip to tranmere....how long will this feel good factor last....
[cite]Posted By: Simonsen[/cite]My Walsall mate says we charged them 25 quid for today. That might have had a bearing on their lack of numbers. 25 is way too much for div 3 football.
Agreed, you can just about justify £20 but £25 psycholigically seems a lot more, I'd of been interested to see how many less we took to Orient if it was £25.
Have always thought that it is a bit of a rip off putting the away end in the premium pricing category and having to put the North Lower in the same category to legally do so means we quite often have a lot of empty seats right behind the goal. If the takeover goes through and money becomes less tight I'd like to see this changed.
[cite]Posted By: Elthamaddick[/cite]if there's a better CM pairing than him and Racon in this league then I'll be amazed.
My only concern about these two is they both at times dwell on the ball a bit too long and lose possession. Would be interesting to see how they fair against the better sides in this division where they'll be closed down a lot quicker.
They look like a team and are working and covering each other. Yes there are errors but this is division 3 not the Prem. It goes with the territory.
Well done lads.
Hard to choose man of the match. Nobody obviously good or bad. I think I'd give it to Burton for the delightful pass to Waggy for the 2nd goal on top of running his ba**s off all match.
Semedo absolutely class today. Racon, Bailey, Jonjo, Llera & Dailly all good too although some tired legs.
I thought Sam played well in the first half but in the second half he just looked uninterested for some reason so a good sub by Parky.
Youga was his usual worrying self at times, Burton tried hard and played a great ball to Waggy. Richardson, the jury is still out for me - although likely to be good enough for this level I think.
Wallsall were very poor and it would have ben nice to have seend 4-5 goals today but we did the job and thats all that is needed.
Semedo & Racon rock solid. Burton some great touches. Shelvey energetic and commited but not his best game - inexperience shows sometimes. MOM for me though was Dailly - great at the back!
Only worry so far is that every team we've played are in the bottom half of the table. Lets see how we go with Brentford, in a couple of weeks, who will be the highest placed side so far.

Obvious I know but I really do think that we should be scoring a few more goals against the poor / mediocre sides in this division. At the end of the season I think that goal difference will be crucial and our failure to bury both Wycombe and Wallsall when we could/should have is a small concern. Having said that it is of course early days and if we are able to sign a genuine goal scorer ala Jackson then I think we will eventually see someone (please be Millwall) get hammered. Nothing negative to say about Charlton at the moment. Hope this week brings the news we are all hoping for.
We played some great football in patches. It seemed to me that when Walsall upped their game a tadge in both halves, we pretty much immediately moved up a gear and scored. At 2-0 the game was beyond Walsall. even if the got lucky which was about all they had to offer.
I thought it was an excellent team performance within the context of doing enough to win.
Semedo MOM for me with Burton just behind but all played well even Sam who just ran out of steam.
Nice to see Waggy who looked sharp. He took his goal well.
[cite]Posted By: Leroy Ambrose[/cite]I thought Shelvey was pooh today. . But then again, he is only 17 - I think everyone expects too much of him.
.
Is that instant self-analysis? ;-)
I think the trouble on here is that Jonjo is being over analysed.
Not many 17 year olds play their football in the glare of regular first team football.
Parky has given him that free role behind Burton and left him to do his own thing.
It's all a learning curve and he will make mistakes and wrong choices; live with it and enjoy him while we can.
[cite]Posted By: valleyman[/cite]Richardson, the jury is still out for me - although likely to be good enough for this level I think.
He's fine for this level, a standard full back really, ok going forward, reliable defensively, will make mistakes but won't try anything stupid. He won't try and dribble past the left winger in his own half, more likely look for a ball up to Burton or a short pass to someone else. Not going to stand out but he'll be like Young and Powell were for us in the Prem, solid and reliable, know what you'll get from him, just rarely going to do anything really impressive.
He'll make mistakes but every other player does and in the few games so far I've seen worse mistakes from opponents and some of our other players than from Richardson.
I think Richardson has looked OK. Plenty of energy and physical presence. His distribution could be better but that will come. He also seems to have got really into the spirit of the place, clapping the East at the second half kick off.
[cite]Posted By: Leroy Ambrose[/cite]I thought Shelvey was pooh today.
FFS Leroy!! You criticise Shelvey here & have a go at Llera on another thread. Just chill out and enjoy the fact we are winning, we are playing like a team & we are TOP OF THE LEAGUE. Why do we have to find somebody to criticise all the time? I've never seen so many moans. I dread to think what's going to happen when we actually lose a game.
[quote][cite]Posted By: Stig[/cite]Youga was great going forward though. Made one goal and a few other good chances.[/quote]
I think that Youga is slowly improving every game, yesterday he looked more solid and made few errors, I can only remember one. He is receiving a lot of coaching from the sidelines and from his fellow defenders, some of it is bollocking and some of it is direction, hopefullyh it willpay off, because we have seen Youga perform topremiership quality, when he came back from Scunthorpe. He probably has tilljanuary to get there, when we may bring a new player in,assuming basey does not force him out
